Where I work, "late" depends on your job title, LOL

If you are salary (engineers and higher) "running late" means anything from 30 minutes to 3 hours

If you are the rest of us hourly peons, "late" means 10-30 minutes TOPS, otherwise you give a time when you will arrive or you WILL hear about it in human resources!

YARG! I agree with you. To me, "a little late" is 30 minutes or less.

Really, punctuality needs to be more important to people these days. Lateness was never tolerated in my family, apparently not all people were raised like I was...

HA!

He strikes again. This time, though, he called my boss's voicemail and left a message at 2:30am and said he would be in "eventually". My boss says it sounded like he was in the car, too, which probably means he went back again to hang out with the university kids over the weekend. Seriously, get a life!

And also, does he not realize that the answering machine has a timestamp? Now we all know that you planned in advance not to come into work on time! (And he still may not come in at all... he certainly isn't here yet.)

So anyways, I'm annoyed again, but I feel better than I did last time because I know my boss is aware of it this time, and he is also annoyed. :thumbsupsmileyanim: Actually, this makes me quite happy to know I'm not the only one that thinks this is completely and totally stupid.

Although, still covering the door by myself all morning, and having NO idea when he will be back, thus probably screwing up my lunch schedule again.

... yeah, sorry that this has become the running thread of my lame coworker not coming in to work on time, but I'm mad, and honestly, I don't feel all that motivated to work if HE doesn't have to... which is a terrible rationalization, I realize, but it's how I feel. So there!

Doesn't he realize what type of economic climate is going on at the moment? In other words, he gets fired from this job for screwing around, he might not find another one so easily! What a turd!

I hope he makes it in soon so you can have your lunch max :(

I've been dealing with something similar with one of my employees, except instead of coming in late he always asks to leave early. I literally told him "you are no longer allowed to leave early. If the option to leave early comes up I will tell YOU, not the other way around."

So now he asks the owner if he can leave early when he's the manager on staff. And then yesterday he had the BALLS to ****ing TEXT me (there are telephones in the rooms to call me on) saying he was too nervous to drive his mom's car in the snow (his is in the shop for the last time it snowed . .. idiot was pulling the e-brake for fun) and he KNOWS he isn't allowed to ask to leave early buuuuuuuuuuuut . . .

I am getting sick of it. Now I'm always late, I'll admit it. If I'm at work 5 minutes after my shift starts I consider that a triumph. No one is perfect, I get it, but I always make up the time on the other end, and I always make sure I'm not inconveniencing any of my staff by running late.

So yeah, I feel ya there. Annoying.

He's here now! Before noon even! :yikes:

Seriously, Coop, one would think that with everything else going on in the workforce that maybe he would prioritize his job a little better... apparently not, though.

Sis, he asks to leave early all the time, too. It is really ridiculous, and it's always at the last possible second, too. It's never "hey, I've had something come up and I'll need to leave an hour early on Thursday next week." NO! It's aways, "Um... do you care if I leave now?"

Seriously... ridiculous.

UGH that INFURIATES me. I cannot stand people like that.

I remember at one of my old jobs (coffee shop) I had worked the 6am-2 pm shift and then picked up another shift for that night 11pm-7am. Well this guy calls up in the morning and says he is going to be "a little late".

Morning was our busiest time and when one person is missing it really screws everyone up. So because I am a nice person I stayed to help out until he arrived.... he was over 2 hours late. I was fit to be tied.

the kicker... he was dating the boss so she didn't say a word and this was almost a daily occurance.

I finally had enough and I absolutely unloaded on him right in front of the boss lol. He kept saying that he needed to be cut a little slack because he now had custody of his child with his ex... I can understand that... I am an understanding person. But every single day? I told him that enough was enough and if he needed to be home in the mornings then he better talk to the boss about changing his shift because it's not fair for the rest of us... especially someone who worked two shifts in one day to have to stay and pick up his slack because he can't get his head out of his ass and figure out what needs to be done. I seriously lost it lol I didn't yell or scream I just told him straight up what I thought about his antics and I made sure the boss could hear me too. if she wasn't going to do anything about it then I wasn't going to stand by and let the rest of us take up the slack.

surprisingly it actually worked lol.

I cant stand late people. To me 30mins and less is a "little late". I know **** happens and sometimes you will be late. if Im going to be a hour late for work, I will call and tell them I will be roughly a hour late (so maybe Ill be 45 mins or a hour and 15 mins late ect.) but sont say a little late and be half a day late. I would be pissed.

I am jealous... You actually get a lunch break? To me that is inhaling a sandwich in the car on the way to the next client. LOL
lol at the grooming shop I normally eat my lunch while sweeping or vacuming up hair, so I also get a tasty treat of dog hair in all my lunch. no time for lunch there.
Late to the real world? Or to my family?

Late to my family is at least two hours. Usually twelve. But they say they are only going to be 20 minutes.
Do we have the same family. My mom will say, ok I will be there in 15mins, a hour later she arrives. Drives me nuts. As I dont hav the car and she does and she will literally leave me waiting outside in a blizzard some where for a freaking hour lol.

Ironic timing to notice this thread, LOL I am never late, usually at work at least 20 minutes early.... (except the day I was caught on the 401 when it closed) well.... this morning my car decided after I stopped for my morning paper, that it would not start:yikes: It turned out to be the battery connector was corroded and after a quick wire brush and wiggle (good mechanic buddy works nearby) off I went... I called my coworker and said I was running late, even though I knew I would only be maybe ten minutes late. I almost made it, and if I'd left at my usual time I would have, but till I get adjusted to daylight savings my usual 20 minute lead time shrinks by about 10... LOL

A little late to me is 10 to30 minutes MAX. Sounds like maybe the manager needs to tell him he needs to take his job seriously if he doesn't there are plenty of others out there who would be gratefull for his job and would treat the job and the co-workers with respect by not coming in very very late.
