I want a German Shepherd eventually. But I will always have a mutt. Wouldn't be right if I didn't! Grown up with them.

For brevity's sake I will only list the first few off the top of my head.

First off, another Border Collie. (Next summer'd better come quickly.) I will never, ever be able to get on without a BC. If I had to have only one breed in the world, it would be the border collie. After I get "Jett" (Whatever I decide to name her - it will be a ***** pup is all I know) settled in, trained and titled, I might be up for BC rescue. Ultimately, if I do wind up getting some sheep someday, and I have the money and space, I would like to have 4-5 BCs.

Second up, in addition to my BCs, I would like to have a flock guardian (You guessed it, I want sheep too. :D) possibly a Great Pyr or a Fila Brasileiro.

I have also grown attached to Doberman Pinschers. Many of my friends here in AZ have currently, or have had, Dobes. In meeting them and really seeing what fun-loving characters they are, it's made me want to make one part of the family someday. Most likely I will go to rescue first, to look for a doberman.

I would, in addition to the larger dogs who would be primarily my workers, like to have a show dog. (Working BCs don't tend to enjoy the show ring, I wouldn't get a Pyr or Fila from show lines, and I don't know if I would have the $$$ to spend on a show prospect doberman) I love Papillons, and would love to have another Pap to join Ripley as my "house pet", as well as showing in conformation. If not a Papillon, I would love a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Last one for now as I'm rambling ;) is a Chow Chow. Their personality is -such- a good match for mine, the extremes in my personality and in that of the Chow seem to even each other out. I love an observant, intelligent dog that requires a fair, confident hand in teaching (I've come to the conclusion that Chows find it offensive to be "trained". They prefer to be "taught". ;)) and an owner that understands them inside and out. Nearly -every- Chow I have met, has gotten along wonderfully with me. I definitely need to have a Chow or Chow mix, too.

I can only imagine if I had all of those at once! I can't decide whether I would love or hate having all those different personalities in the house. But for the next 20 years or so, that is part of my want-list. Not nearly complete, just part of it off the top of my head.

I've been working with a German Shepherd rescue group to find a GSD, and am planning on adopting him within the next month or so. :D

A few other breeds that I would own if they were offered to me: Bernese Mountain Dog, Great Dane, Doberman, or a retired racing Greyhound. I work for a vet and out of all of our clients I definitely enjoy those the most.

I am 100% a GSD girl at heart, though. :)

I still want a newfoundland one day, it's always been my favorite breed with golden retrievers. I can't seem to find any serious breeder in my area though /sigh. One told me to contact them in december and said they wouldn't have a litter for another year when I did, and the one they directed me to never answered my email :( I might contact a rescue eventually, but my husband doesn't want an adult dog (they scare him).

livestock guardian breeds will be the only breds i ever own. they seem to be the breeds that mesh with me the best. i have had a pyrenees in the past and i look forward to having another in the future. i will always have an anatolian also. and the one other breed i would love to own is a tibetan mastiff. i fell in love with that breed many many years ago and actually going to a show to meet a breeder is when i fell in love with the anatolian. unfortunately with our foster dog i will not be able to get another dog until she either gets adopted or passes on. she is extremely animal aggressive and it has taken quite a bit to get her acclimated in my home and trustworthy with my existing animals. bringing in another animal, even as a puppy, i dont think would be a good idea while i have her. which is a shame because scout just loves other animals and is always on the look out for a new friend to play with. :D

Well, I don't know what dog(s) I'm going to get. What I want will probably be the farthest from what I get.
What I want to get however (lol) depends on what I'm going to do later in life which I'm still trying to deside on. What breeds I want to get are: A Neapolitian Mastiff, a Boxer, a Pittie, a Rottie, an Ibizan Hound and a Pharaoh Hound. (Man, if I had all of those at once, I'd go crazy. lol) I'm also starting to get interested in Dobes, but I don't know if I could handle their activity level. But then, that might change in time.

Hmmm....so I guess what I really want as I get older is this: A Neapolitian Mastiff to be my big lazy dog that I can take on walks and just love to death and I'd also like a Pittie, Rottie, Boxer, Cane Corso, or an ACD to do Schutzhund with or obedience with (and take on walks and love to death. lol :) ). I think that would be really fun. And then maybe either a Ibizan Hound or a Pharaoh Hound for a companion. I'd love to do obedience with all of my dogs and depending on what breed I get, maybe even weightpulling or drafting.
It'd also be nice to have an Akita, but I highly doubt my living situation would ever be sutible for one, especially since I want lots of dogs.

Just wanted to bump this thread up. I like it.

So what dogs do you want/plan to get in the future?

Right now, I really only want another German shepherd. They're addicting. But maybe and Old English Mastiff or a Fila.
