Malcolm From Scottish Mael Coluim which means "disciple of Saint Columba". This was the name of four kings of Scotland starting in the 10th century, including Malcolm III, who became king after killing Macbeth, the usurper who had murdered his father. The character Malcolm in Shakespeare's tragedy 'Macbeth' (1606) is based on him. I just wanted a good strong Scottish name for a strong Scottish-breed dog. :)

Smidgen - A very small quantity or portion; a bit or mite: [Probably alteration of dialectal smitch, particle, perhaps ultimately from Middle English smite. I named her this because I had been calling her "Little Bit" as a tiny pup, but wanted something more creative and a smidgen is a little bit. :p

;) Dora from Dora the Explorer - an American animated television series that is carried on the Nickelodeon cable television network. In every episode, Dora goes on an exploring trip to find something or help somebody. I named her this because she was out of the whelping box and exploring as soon as her eyes opened!

2. Informal A baby boomer.

Kona--Kona is a name originated from Hawaiian. Meaning of Kona is "lady" and is mostly used for female gender.

However, that is not the case with my Kona... we named her Kona because we wanted something different-- something you don't hear every day. She is a dark brown color so we literally googled "coffee names" and Kona was on one of the lists. We liked how it rolled off our tongues, and it stuck.
I like that name. It's really cute. :)

Morgan
Welsh: Circling sea; Originally a surname and given name for boys, Morgan has become frequently used for girls also.
Famous Namesakes: Actor Morgan Freeman

Huh. The famous namesake is exactly where we got Morgan's name. Penguin-puppy was named after the narrator in "March of the Penguins".

Dunno how "circling sea" fits Morgan's personality, though. I guess he does love to run in circles in the yard... LOL!

Also explains why everybody always thinks he's a girl, but we knew that already.

Ares Greek origin. Greek mythology: Ares was the god of war
Morgan It is of Welsh and Old English origin, and its meaning is "circling sea or great brightness; bright or white sea dweller". The given meanings suggest the magical machinations of King Arthur's jealous sister, Morgan le Fay.
Tyr Name of an Ancient Norse god that was the most brave and bold out of the warlike ones.
Nyx Greek origin, and its meaning is "night"

Xena: Hospitable. Greek in origin.

It really fits her. She's happy to meet anybody.
I thought it meant "She who kicks ass and looks great doing it" ;)

my crew

With my crew it's not really what their names mean in general, but what they mean to me.

Possum: well, she looked like a baby possum when she was born. She had another more beautiful name, but we called her Possum as a joke, and it stuck. Finally at 3 mos. we just made it official.

Dan: officially Daniel means "God is my judge." Dan is really named Dapper Dan Man after George Clooney's line from O Brother Where Art Thou where he states: "I'm not Fop Man, I'm a Dapper Dan Man." Yeah, my dog is named after a hair pomade from a movie.

Haddie: officially? it's short for Hadden, which is a cultured, preppy name, along the lines of Holden or Hayden, but this one is just as swell on a girl. That doesn't begin to match her...she's so far from cultured it's not funny! She's really It Had to be Ewe, because she's the one I wanted, so we shortened her call name to Haddie.

Kelda: ahhh...last but not least. Kelda is named after a character found in several of Sir Terry Pratchett's discworld novels. That man can write.....and is my favorite author. He writes amazing stuff about border collies, sheep herding, trials, and sheep....in the middle of alternate reality humor/satire/sci fi/fantasy. The Kelda is the female member of a clan of small, blue kilt-wearing hellions, the Nac MacFeegle. The rest of the clan is male, and while they are engaged in drinking, fighting, and thieving, she does the thinking for them. I've ALWAYS wanted to name a female BC Kelda, and when this little girl came home, it seemed appropriate. :)

Thanks :) I thought it was a pretty name and I've always loved the nickname Izzy. We were going to name the dog we got Izzy regardless of sex because we chose it for a boy first from the character in Digimon named Izzy. His whole name was Izumi which means spring light in Japanese. Izzy for a girl has always been short for Isabelle to me so when the puppy we picked from our rescue was a girl, Isabelle it was.

Upendi - It means love in Swahili.

Mina - It's a Wintu word for peace.

Together they've brought me love and peace so it fits wonderfully.

Ach crivens!

Strider = "A person who walks rapidly with long steps."

Seemed appropriate for a borzoi. His registered name "Daragoi Steel Strong Aegis"

Daragoi is Russian for "dear friend"

Aegis was a super strong shield/breastplate that Athena wore. Medusa's head got added to it at some point. He came with the first three parts of his registered name, and I added the Aegis. Together it all seemed fitting since he's a service animal.

Charlie = "manly farmer" :rofl1: We didn't plan it that way, but it fits perfectly. He smells like cow dung most of the time.

Saladin is actually a European mis-pronounciation of a famous Leader for the Muslims during the third Crusade. He was the main opposition for Richard the Lionheart. It is a Kurdish name.

OT but you just reminded me what a TOTAL NERD I am, because it took absolutely no effort for me to remember the character's name in Japanese was Koushirou Izumi... oh my God...

Artimis (spelled a bit different)

Used in: English and Greek speaking countries

Additional info:
The meaning of Artemis is not certain. It may be from 'artemes' (strong-limbed), or 'artao' (I cut up) - the Spartans called her Artamis. Or her name may be from 'airo themis' (lofty convenor, or lofty water). Artemis was the ancient Greek goddess of the hunt. Twin to Apollo, Artemis was a patron of virgins and hunters. She is therefore both butcher and protectress, though it is uncertain whether either of these words truly contribute to her name. In later legend, she was conflated with Diana, Roman goddess of the moon. She is also known as Phoebe (related to Apollo's title "Phoebus) and Cynthia (as she was born on Mount Cynthus).

Yes, he's a boy with a girls name :D

Maggie Mae: Maggie means "pearl" in Greek and is a pet name for Margaret in English according to the site I used. Mae means "kinswoman" in English, "bitter" in Hebrew and Irish, and the month of May in French. :p Maggie has her name not because of the meaning but because she was relinquished with the name Maggie and the staff at the shelter (friends of mine at the time) added the Mae and it didn't feel right to change it.

Ziva: Meaning is "bright or brilliant" in Hebrew. Also the name of a fav character on NCIS. ;)

Kestrel: Refers to a small, red-speckled falcon known for hovering in air and it's rattling call. Also the word that I missed in my 6th grade spelling bee. :D

Kharma is a bitch.

Sometimes she is good Kharma.

Sometimes bad Kharma.

And she can be downright Instant Kharma when she feels it necessary.

TALLULAH
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English (Rare)
Pronounced: tə-LOO-lə [key]

Means "leaping waters" in the Choctaw language. This is the name of waterfalls in Georgia. It was borne by American actress Tallulah Bankhead (1902-1968), who was named after her grandmother, who may have been named after the waterfalls.

And what better namesake for a little southern APBT than Tallulah Bankhead?
