hehe.. no, the woman can ONLY get pregnant during the fertile period. The egg can only live for 24 hours, and sperms can only live for up to 36 hours. Asumming that sperms can get into her body 3 days before the ovulation, or three days after - plus the ovulation day - that means 1 week total.

In order to successfully practice natural birth control, the woman has to learn to know her body, and be able to convince her husband to do so, too :)

I practice natural birth control, and all of my relative/friends practice it, too. None of us have any "accident" yet :). Studies show that if one does it correctly, the successful rate can be up to 98%!
lol, then you guys are lucky cause you must have very regular periods.

I would whip out my physiology notes if i could but they are at home...we learned very clearly that while sure, maybe you only have one fertile week,...but knowing when the hell that week is a WHOLE different story.

EDIT: the egg can live for 24-48 hrs, and the sperm can live for 4-5 days...from what i learned.

Easier said than done for some people, I have never had a regular period in my life, I couldn't tell you when I was ovulating if at all!

There have been instances of women becoming pregnant whilst on their periods, to tell people that it doesn't happen is just naive... It may not happen to you, but it may happen to someone else!

Also I think that using protection is a very good idea, STD's and things are passed around far too easily... Who has actually asked their partner here to go and have an STD check every six months? And get tested themselves?! I have!!

M&M, I guess we're just of two extremely different opinions then. :) I am in full support of "recreational sex" and birth control medication.

It dawned on me a long time ago that sharing what was between my ears was a far greater and more unselfish and important gift to someone than what was between my legs . . . THAT just seems to be a rather barbaric method of keeping control of women. The whole issue of women's chastity devolved from patriarchal theocracies breaking down the existing cultures and societal organizations and creating their own.

To a great extent, it is a matter of personal freedom. And it does require a measure of intellectual - and even more importantly - emotional maturity.

I'll refer you to the quote in Buckshot's signature:

If sex is to reproduce, why are you having sex out of the fertile period then?

No offense, but it sounds a little bit paradoxical don't you think?

So, sex before marriage? Absolutely! You learn so much about someone when you have sex, that I really think it's actually a good thing to know if you're compatible before getting married... I've heard of so many couples who broke up because things were not working in bed... That and I can't imagine getting married to someone I don't know all I can about. Not to give too much information, but what if the guy doesn't care to please anyone but himself? What if he's a perv? You won't be able to know until you try, and it would suck to find out after being married... It just says so much about the person... IMO. Not that I find marriage to be such a big deal anymore, but divorces suck.

That, and, well, usually the first time sucks, and I would find it a real downer on a honeymoon personally.

More seriously, I think it should be everyone's choice... It doesn't shock me if a 15 year old has sex, as long as she's 100% sure it's what she wants, and not just to please her boyfriend, and that she's reasonable about it.

Honestly, I just don't think that sex is such a big deal, as long as it's done responsibly. I don't think it's degrading, and I do find it sexist to say it is for girls, but that it's never mentionned for guys. It's something natural, and girls have hormons, too.

And no, I didn't have sex at 15 - I was 19, with what I thought was the right guy at the time, although I admit I was mostly curious about what all the fuss was about, too.

Hehe.. I did edited my post to say that perms can live for up to 72 hours (3 days) - it is rarely producible after the fourth day, even if it can live that long.

Thank you M&M Mom's! Agree, BUT I think for a married couple to have sex for "fun" is okay :D Just of it is done safely, but really I see nothing wrong with it.

Grammy, why would an 18 year old be more mature that some of the younger people I know? Most 18 year olds are just getting to know what "life" is...not saying all but most I know are. heheh

And I agree with Grace, there is nothing wrong with birth control medication, I am going to be on it when ever I get married, too ;)

Again, there are two purposes for sex, one of them is to reproduce, the other is to nourish the relationship between the husband and wife. Thus, to me, sex should only happen after the two people wed :)

I guess we just have to agree to disagree. I know very well that I cannot change anyone's mind about this subject, and I do not intend to do so. I just want to voice my advocacy for a different lifestyle, where one waits until he/she is married to have sex.
If the wife is her husband's first and only partner and vice versa, they wouldn't have to worry about all those sexual transmitted deseases.

A poem about sex

Kissing is a sin,
Sex is a shame,
Boys have all the fun, Girls have all the blame,
One night of pleasure,
Nine months of pain,
Three days in the hospital with a baby to name,
Boys say your cute,
Boys say your fine,
But when you have their baby, they say it ain't mine,
You might think i'm crazy,
But please take my advice,
Don't be a mother, before your a wife,
Goodbye for now,
I'll see you in court,
Cause i'm busting your a** for child support!

This reminds me of my college classmate who had a banner in her room. It says "First the ring, then the thing" :D

And yet, sex was around long before the institution of marriage was invented . . . by mankind . . . ;)

Well the "try before you buy" thing was a bit of a joke, and I'm sure I alluded to that as well.

I was 15 when I first had sex. I'm 22 now and getting married in a little over a month. I'm on birthcontrol, I have no STDs, and my life is not messed up in any significant way. I was responsible about it. I could go to my parents about it with relatively little fear (this is key). I have a good education, I make smart decisions, and I can't possibly imagine getting married to someone and finding out they are completely horrible in bed. What a way to ruin a marriage! If I'd met someone who wanted to wait til marriage, I'm sorry to say I would have passed right on by them.

I don't want kids. I don't like kids. Will that stop me from having sex? Er, no.

My gift to my future husband is ME. I don't need my virginity to be a part of that package. I know that what I'm giving him is a tried and tested (in every possible way) relationship. To me that's more important than the (quite large--I know this from "experience") possibility of being incompatible in a very important area. And no, I'm not a s***, or any other such nonsense.

But hey, I'll concede that if sex is only for the purposes of children, then you may not need to be compatible at all! But that's just not the way I work.

Now I am sorry, I know this post will come off as harsh or rude of whatever. I apologise, these kind of topics (religion, politics, blah de blah) tend to get to me. I tried to keep it as civil as possible, and now I've said my piece and I wont be posting on it again.

(HAH I LIED)
Edited to add: In case you haven't noticed I am not religious in any way, so explanations of that sort will fall on deaf ears. Akin to being the "try before you buy" girl, I'm also the "must see to believe" girl :D

If Adam and Eve were supposedly married, who married them? You never hear of Adam, Eve, the registra, and the vicar! :D And where did they sign?!

I personally don't think God invented marriage. I'm not putting down your beliefs, M&M, I just don't believe that marriage was something which He "invented".

"Marriage", to me, is a ceremony, a ring and the signing of papers. That wasn't around in the time of Adam and Eve. It just wasn't possible, lol!

I believe "marriage" which is pleasing to Him is a commitment between two people, to remain together for their entire life. Whether or not they have a ceremony in celebration of that is unimportant to me, and I also believe it's unimportant to Him.

That being said, I STILL would not like to make a lifelong commitment to someone if I don't know as much about them as I could. I do think a good sex life can help a marriage flourish. But what do I know... I'm not married.
