A friend has recently gotten me started collecting vintage Pyrex! I love it and I'm completely fixated, lol. I am not one for clutter. I HATE things that sit around with no purpose so I never thought collecting something could make me so happy but I just love it. They are useful in a way but, to be honest, I didn't really NEED any more baking dishes or bowls. I have actually phased out a lot of my old stuff just so I could get some Pyrex. I can't believe all I have accumulated in just a month!

I never collected anything as a kid...things were collected for me (like an aunt who gave me a Christmas gift from the same figurine line every Christmas) but I was never really into it...I thought they were cute don't get me wrong but I was just never interested in collecting more... I'd hang on to the odd "old" coin or whatnot but that's about it...and it was just happenstance not intentional search/find...

And post-college I've just never stayed in one place long enough to collect anything. Average a move a year for the last ten years. So my mission has always been to minimize rather than accumulate.

So how have I amassed so much stuff???? lol

Books

My prized possession, even though it's not worth anything, is a 1910 edition of Wild Flowers East of the Rockies by Chester A Reed. It has beautiful colour plates too.

Joce: I love that photo of the logging horses.

Very pretty, very unique! Perhaps you could start collecting Fiestaware too, beautiful colors.

I have a house of cat...pictures, statues, books, clothes, dolls...all with cat images. Some were from my Mom, some from when I was a kid, the rest just reproduced on their own. Frogs, started with a stone one in the garden and up to about ten now.

Books? Don't know if it's a collection or just being an avid reader but every wall, every room, every surface has books.

Books, cats and a dog by my side n' life is good:cool:

Foxes. OMG. Foxes.

If the foxes are also stuffed animals, all the better.

This is one of those collections that snuck up on me. For a long time I didn't believe I really collected anything. Then I looked around one day and though HOLY HECK I have a lot of foxes. LOL

Postcards. I have about 1000 by now. I buy at least 10 anywhere I go, and I always have people send me some. My dad always brings some back from where ever he is, so I have some from all over the world.
A few years ago, I could fill on entire wall with postcards. ^^

Nothing. I abhor clutter. Paul is the collector in the relationship. He collects African art and books. I spend my time slowly disappearing African Art and books.

Books. Somehow I've started collecting autographed books, but not intentionally.

Chicken art, but only really cool chicken art. None of that chintzy mass produced ceramic stuff. I just think they're really amazing beautiful birds. I don't have that many pieces yet, it's just something I get if I see a really nice piece that grabs me.

Sea shells too, though I'm passing those on to my daughter. She really loves them.

Mostly just books, clutter makes me antsy. I would love to have enough books to populate a home library one day.

Other than that I have a fair amount of elephant stuff (lamps, art, etc) and some muppets and disney things. Usually I stick to things that I can convince myself are useful like mugs and t-shirts because if I didn't my entire house would be populated by adorable little plushies. I have to drag myself away from them at the Disney Store, I collected them as a kid and even still today a few have crept home with me.

I collect Breyer horses. It used to be model horses in general, but as I became a "big girl", I had to cut back on my "little girl" activity. All my Breyers are currently in their boxes and packed away in big boxes. To date, I have approx. 230 horses, mainly Arabians, racing Thoroughbreds, and odds and ends favorites that just appeal to me.

I also probably have the largest horse book collection. LOL I have not gotten rid of a single horse book from my childhood days, and at last count, I had approx. 1,100 books (ranging from short stories to westerns, such as Roy Rogers, to nonfiction books about breeds and riding/training to fiction, such as The Saddle Club and Throughbred......basically, if there as a horse in it, I have it ;) ). I have a hard time bringing myself to get rid of them. I know I could make a lot of little girls, and boys, happy by donating all the books to them, but they hold sooo many memories, that I just cannot bring myself to do it yet.

Ok, if it's horse-related, I collect it. :p

Oh, and I have a 2nd Edition copy of Black Beauty. It is my prized possession!

Hubby collects shot glasses from places he's traveled to/visited (I would buy them as I traveled also).

My boys collect Monster Jam monster trucks. We have 41 of the large trucks, 9 of the medium (self-propelled things) trucks, and 29 of the small trucks. I'm going broke with those things! :yikes:

Cool!

We'll have to compare lists... :) I've been collecting horse books since childhood as well - still have the original 3 book Fury series I received for Christmas in '62. I tend to collect illustrators - CW Anderson, Paul Brown, Wesley Dennis, etc., besides the breed/training/riding/fiction/non-fiction books. Don't think I have 1100 books but it's close!

I also collect dog figurines, any medium but resin/plastic (just don't like them). I started with this collie my great-grandmother gave me almost 50 years ago.

I have 2 prized possessions. One is a bronze of a deerhound, dated 1878.

The other is a bronze racehorse my grandmother gave me, that had belonged to my grandfather. I wish I knew which horse/jockey it's supposed to depict - would have been in the 30s, I think.

I like this little wooden Dachshund, too.

I've also started collecting Vaseline glass - it's got trace amounts of uranium in it so it glows in black light or sunlight.

My best friend's sister, who currently lives in France, will be coming down here in early August to visit her Dad. Is it expensive to mail from Fance to Germany? I could send you some postcards from here, and send them back with her and she can mail them from her home.

I'm in southeastern Louisiana. :D
