Today I met a dog, whose owner called him a "Chiweenie"- he was a mix of daschund (sp) and chihuahua. I also like "Puggle"- cross between a pug and a beagle. Any other good ones??

I personally can't stand the cutesy mixed breed names. I don't understand the trend of merging breed names together to create a high dollar "designer breed."

I am with Jessie, I can't stand them either. But maybe that has to do with not being able to stand the whole trend.

They are just so dumb IMO, and the last thing I want to do is give them more recognition or promote them.

I enjoy "naming" mixed breeds in fun. I used to call Mick our English ReSetter (Lab/English Setter mix). And when telling my friend about Caleb's new girlfriend, I jokingly refered to PortaLabs (PWD/Lab). But that's it. It's all in fun. I absolutely refuse to call designer breeds by their "name". I always refer to them by whatever they are mixed with( Lab/Poodle, Daschshund/Chihuahua, etc).

Not all mixed breeds are "high dollar designer breeds". Some are just "mutts". Our dog is a mix of border collie and lab, and we adopted her from the SPCA, I'm quite certain no one intended on her mom and dad getting together!! We call her a laboradollie.

I totally understand this and think it is all cute and stuff. I mean within my family I would be fine giving my mixed breed a cutesy name.

The thing is, people can be stupid. I wouldn't want to take the chance of laughing about it with some random people at the park only to find out that they went and got their own (insert funny name) because they liked mine. Or thought it was cool, or something.

So go right ahead and come forward with cute names and stuff, I have no problem with that. I guess I am just trying to say be careful who you tell them too as some will not take it as a joke :)

Some of my favorite ridiculous ACHC names:

American Eagle Dog
Cock-A-Mo
Cockapoo
Brat
Raggle
Kimola (anyone can tell me what this is without looking should get a prize lol)
Aussie-poo
Basschshund (pronounce that one for me)
Bowzer (mwahaha)
Bascottie (not to be confused with Biscotti)
Schneagle (reminds me of Smeagle)

And so many more.... I have to wonder who came up with these and thought they were cute?

A friend of mine had an Italian greyhound mix that looked amazingly like an Irish wolfhound in miniature. She told people that he was a wire-haired Italian greyhound. One guy at a dog show nodded wisely and said, "I've heard of those." :rofl1::rofl1:
