Obama: Losing my right to bear arms, losing freedom of speech, him pulling out the military from Iraq quickly without finishing what we started and causing the lives we have lost to be for nothing.

McCain: If the situation were to arise, I don't think Palin is really experienced enough to be President. But I also don't believe Obama is experienced enough to be president.

PDub, you read my mind.

I strongly feel that a woman can choose for herself. If she cannot care for a baby properly, I'd rather it be aborted than born and dropped into a dumpster.

I also strongly believe that I have a right to carry a gun. I don't carry one, but should I need to, I'd like that option to stay open.

My biggest fear with BOTH of of them is whether they'd successfully deal with our economic problems. But more specifically.. with Obama, it's the right to bear arms and with McCain it was Palin becoming president.

What am I most afraid of? The status quo, people go back to normal, nobody is willing to make sacrafices or work together, it's party politics as usual and the stupid infighting continues.

I'm not afraid of universal health care, although I do not like the idea. The other option in this election was not any better, in fact from my stand point it was worse, most people don't realize it though because they were too afraid of the word "socialized medicine". I have my doubts it ever comes about anyway.

I'm not afraid of losing my guns, i'll fight till I die before someone comes and takes those. I have a feeling most courts would also back me up on that. Dem's may have a majority, but there are still checks and balances in the gov't, when they aren't bypassing them like the last admin.

I'm not afraid of abortion, it's a personal issue and choice. i would hope nobody I ever know is faced with the decision of abort or not and if they were I'd be there in whatever capacity they needed me in, but in the end it is not MY decision to make. It doesn't make me any less a believer in God either, but if you feel you must judge me, go ahead.

The war is going to affect this country for years and years, no matter if we pull out today (which would be bad) or pull out 10 years from now (still bad). There is no easy answer or one that will make people happy. It is what it is and we just have to work thru it.

I'm not concerned with the "spreading of wealth" because it is a necessary part of a properly working society. It's been shown again and again thruought history. I don't think his plans include taking 10K a year from me, so somebody can sit at home and watch the Jerry Springer show either. I have no problems paying a little more if it makes our country stronger. I was actually more concerned with the concentration of power moving "up" that has occured over the past 8 years and the way it was achieved.

I hope we can move on as a country and everyone would use their own mind to make a decision and actually think about some things before they react.

Am I the only one who could careless about losing my right to bear arms? lol

I have SOO many things I would have feared having McCain as President..So i am very relieved Obama won. I don't have anything to fear with him as my President.

Can someone let a non-American know how people can reconcile their belief in personal 'liberty' and freedom with the belief that its okay to tell others what they're allowed to do with their bodies (ie abortion) or who they're allowed to marry (ie. same sex marriage). I would think the Republicans out there, who generally see people as individuals and who can pursue their own lives as they see fit (ie right to own firearms and against paying for others healthcare), would think that a person should have just as much right to determine who they spent their life with and whether or not to end a pregnancy that was not intended or unable to be cared for.

I know that the 'right' seems to have a religious streak as well, but doesn't freedom also allow for differing views on so called 'religious' issues?

I guess I'm just curious to see what logic people have in coming up with their beliefs.

It's always confused me, too. Everyone here already knows my views on abortion and since the mere mention of the word can turn non-related threads into nasty debates about it, I'll refrain... but on opposition to the same-sex marriage? It is PURELY a religious issue, and the ONLY reasons I have heard against it are or stem from religion.

I personally see it as a civil rights issue. People are trying to deny an entire segment of our population the right to marriage and everything that comes with it, because they don't like who is getting married. If you listen to the arguments against gay marriage and replace "same sex" with "inter-racial" you really realize what the movement is all about - denying people their rights and making sure we keep recognizing them as second-class citizens who are somehow less worthy of having their relationship recognized by the U.S. government equally and fairly.

Yeah, thats what I thought. Funny how this election championed the cause of minorities yet removed the rights of a certain minority (ballot issues in California, etc). It's a little disheartening.

My fears as a none-American regarding both.

McCain: Getting pulled more and more into a war, that I don't want my country to be apart of. The financial issues not to be addressed, and it taking an even bigger toll on my own countries finances. My privacy rights concerning my personal issues regarding being an ex-legal-alien and my ability to become an American Citizen when and if I want to move back.

Obama: The war being stopped to quickly and thosands left in a wreck like Germany was after WW2.
