She's in surgery. Should be about done based on their best-guess timeline. No news yet though.

Cookie is out of surgery and awake. The bone came together well and the laceration closed up nicely. No nasty surprises and she handled the anesthesia without a problem. The DVM spent half the conversation going on again about how sweet Cookie is. Plan is for her to come home tomorrow if she continues to recover well. They were able to get good load sharing between the plate and the bones but due to the proximity of growth plate on a young growing dog they were unable to use a screw in one spot due to the risk of affecting that leg's growth so we will have to be even more vigilant about keeping her quiet and off that leg. The long-term prognosis is full function. Other than the slight scar from the laceration she should be, to quote the surgeon, "as though this never even happened."

How horrifying! Vibes for a smooth, effective surgery.

EDIT: Awkward... Apparently, we posted at the same-ish time...
Yay for an uneventful surgery. Here's to speedy healing.

That is a scary accident but so glad her surgery went well.

***vibes*** that she makes a fast, healthy recovery.

Oh, poor Cookie! :(

I'm so glad to hear the surgery went well. Wishing you the best of luck keeping her quiet and off that poor leg. Speedy recovery vibes, too, of course!

Less than two hours out of surgery and she is giving all the nurses kisses :) Such a trooper and a love.

I hope they let you take her home! :p
I will pupnap her if necessary! Miss her terribly, though I know she is in the best of hands. She really has a fabulous team of surgeons and nurses at her disposal and I couldn't be more pleased with their care and information-sharing. They have made all of this bearable and I only hope that she makes a full recovery so she can live the rest of her life with the same verve of the first six months.

If all goes well, she will come home tomorrow and Operation: Heal the Cookie begins.
