I don't know what happened but Belle has managed to hurt her front leg. I am obviously no vet but from the way she holds it it LOOKS like the pain is in the lower part of the leg or her foot. I checked for cuts but there wasn't any so she has spraigned it or something. I don't THINK it's a break but I owuldn't really know. she started limping a little bit last night. I noticed it when I put her out for the last time before bed. It was barely noticeable. Today she is noticeably more sore. She doesn't want to put her foot down when she is just standing and is limping most of the time when she walks... although every once in a while she'll take a couple steps with little to no limp.

she's on bed rest today... it's raining anyway so it will be easy to keep her still. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow first thing.

anything I can do for her in the meantime? Is there any pain meds dogs can have?

I would have it xrayed if at all possible. IF it is fractured it could break the rest of the way. IF it isn't your a hundred or so out for the xray but you won't have to worry or have regret. Bronki broke the long bone on the top of his foot when my daughter opened the door over it. He would not put weight on it for anything. THe vet picked up the other leg to see if he would put it down and when he didn't then the vet said to xray. IT was indeed broken and he wore a cast on his baby puppy leg.

Victor cracked a toe. The vet said these young dogs they heal so well it will be fine. Just keep him quiet. Well I did and it took a while to heal, but we don't do the trick twist anymore..the wrong angle it hurts him. We don't jump for bubbles anymore either, one of his favorite things to do. I wish the vet would have done something. I don't think it healed right.

Vibes that it is only a hard knock and sore. IF belle is still limping by tomorrow i would go.

Regular old aspirin is a good anti inflammatory. It will reduce inflammation, help with the pain too. The dose for dogs is 5mg per 10lbs of dog............a normal aspirin is 320 mg I believe, so if Belle is around 65lbs one aspirin is a good dose (I don't know her weight, just using the example, LOL)

Chances are good she just hopped around and came down on it wrong, happens all the time. Orson had a limp in his front leg at one time, took him in and she prescribed an anti inflammatory. She wanted this before xrays because she said the anti normally worked within a day or two and was much cheaper, LOL

Yeah I'm definitely taking her in tomorrow. Hannah goes to daycare in the morning so I will have my hands free to take Belle in.

seems I can touch her foot without her crying or really wincing other t han she doesn't really want me to move it around of course.

I can't really see any swelling so I can't tell where the issue actually is. Yes I would like for them to do an x ray to make sure. especially since we are going out of town next week and she will be here with the dog sitter so I would like to know what is wrong before we go.

Like tylenol? I don't have any actual Asprin but I do have tylenol and Ibuprofen.

she's about 75 lbs so one pill should work.

that's what I'm thinking. sh was probably wrestling around with beezer and twisted her foot or something.

we shall see

yeah I don't have asprin so she will have to go without for now. but when she's laying down it doesn't seem to be causing her much pain if any at all... just when she's up moving around. So as long as I keep her down she's fine to go without I think.

Wish I knew where she was sore ... I might be able to ice it a bit if I knew where the pain was lol. but it's hard to tell. It LOOKS like it's in the foot or lower part of the leg but I don't know how to tell for sure.

Well if she'll let you ice it, just put it where you THINK it might need it........can't hurt a thing, but it could help :)

Rest. Ice and elevate if you can. Aspirin but i would be careful about that before it is xrayed. Pain happens for a reason.

well the rest part is NO problem LOL she's snoring on the couch right now.

I'm going to try some ice. I won't be able to elevate but hopefully the ice will help with any swelling there might be.

You might also pick up a bottle of Traumeel instead of giving aspirin - you can get it at a place like GNC. That is what I use for Auggie whenever we have some kind of sport injury or just a hard day of agility. It's homeopathic and I'm glad to have it on hand though I don't have to use it very often.

I sure hope it is not. Poor piddy paws make for sad dogs. Tender Pats to Belle tell her Smkie says sorry.

well NOW I'm wondering how much of this is an act lol.

I mean she is definitely hurt and needs to see the vet but I'm starting to think she's milking it for everything it's worth. I just let her out to go pee and she went tearing off the porch like a bat out of h#ll until she realized it was still raining and I yelled at her to STOP RUNNING. I told her to pee and get back inside lol.

now she's back on he couch laying there staring at me all pathetic like.
