After watching the episode tonight a few really interesting things took place that I want to write about but I am too tired so... Maybe tomorrow
Holy cow though, what a cliffhanger!
Did Shane want to die? No one seems to view his death the same way I did. I think he wanted Rick to finally prove himself. No matter the outcome, Lori and Carl would be left with the stronger man. As evil as I think he was, I think Shane wanted that to be Rick.
This is a very, very interesting take on it. I really like your thinking. I know I am the odd man out I don't think Shane was as evil as everyone else thinks he was and this description of his death sounds very much in line with what I think was really going on with him.
Disturbed? Yes. Angry with a short fuse? Yes. Suffering a psychotic break? Possibly. Inherently evil? I don't think so. Before killing him off, I am really really glad they stuck a few important scenes in there first. The one with him and Lori talking where she thanked him, the one where he talks to Carl and the scene where he confronts Rick about neglecting his son all, in my mind, tie him up neatly before he goes. While we clearly see he is a danger to the rest of the group (and realistically, leaves Rick no choice but to kill him), it's also not so simple as 'he's a bad guy'. He cares deeply for Carl and Lori, and I am glad they emphasized that before he konked out.
Hopefully I will have time to write more later
