The Venting Thread

I'll be done with college next year... and it is such a relief to be DONE. Now everyone is asking me, what I want to do for a Masters. I'm not even sure, I want to do a Masters. I'm not even sure my grades will be good enough to get into a masters programm...

I'll be 24 when I'm done with my bachelors, 26 if I do a Masters, I feel like I should actually have a life by then and not be fresh out of school.

The applying for a masters is sky rocketing my anxiety so much that I can't sleep at night.

I'm in the same boat! Kicking myself now because I goofed off a bit and could have been...should have been done my bachelors last summer just before I turned 22. But now I gotta wait till 24. I've been throwing the Masters idea around but really...I don't know. Might take a college course to beef things up a bit.
Ugh.
Why did I take such a general, non-job getting course??

I'm going to also tell you not to give up on your dreams. Evaluate them and why they mean what they mean to you, though.

Honey, I've had almost 30 years to evaluate my dreams. With a degree in psychology. I don't just "evaluate" things. I over-analyze them.

How is that a problem? If you're not finding anyone who you're interested in, your choices are to date someone you don't like or to not date. Not dating is cheaper and gives you way more free time. Wait until you find someone you're passionate about - everything else will fall together after that.

That's a good point and definitely true. I was going to start listing out the reasons why I'm "bad girlfriend material", but honestly, I also offer some **** good traits. So there.

Of course, I could also stand to be less picky, and there have been a few guys in my life who were really great technically, but I do want that passion and excitement and giddy contentment. I don't want to commit to a guy just because I compared notes and we sounded like a good match. I've been with guys like that and I was ready to check out after a week of knowing them, to be honest. I know I won't be happy settling like that, but another part of me wants to just kick myself in the ass, tell myself not to be stupid, and just deal with it because that'd be better for me in the long run. Except I don't even think it would, because I want to be emotionally invested.

So, that does help me realize that I should just stay hopeful and let whatever happens, happen. Because all the alternatives would completely suck. Also, I'm 20 and it's much too early to be freaking out, but I think this is what happens when all my friends are in that 25 - 28 year range. Anxiety and general feelings of panic can be contagious!

I took the SAT in 7th grade too (first time) then took it again as a junior.

I'm pretty sure my relatives have given up on me. I have this bad habit of only liking guys that are taken. :/

It doesn't help that my grandma thinks I'm a lesbian since I'm not married and haven't been in a relationship in a long time. (i'm not)

I do NOT want to be one of those crazy dog people (eheheheh.... probably almost there anyways) but yeah, I notice a lot of the 'dog crowd' is older single women. I'd like to be like... a normal person who has a hobby?

The weird thing is my "high class" friends all actually think the dog stuff is really cool and are the first ones to bring it up and brag on my dogs to people I don't know, while I'm over there like "I was totally just cool talking about the food here and alcohol..." Maybe it's because they all have advanced degrees and high salaries and I'm their charming redneck friend or something so they want to be like "Isn't she cute? She has all these dogs who do cool things and she likes THE COUNTRY and being OUTSIDE. Isn't that adorable??" That makes it sound like they're doing it in a derogatory way LOL and they aren't. They genuinely think it's cool. It's so weird. Especially when, like, my friend who has only ever told me he thinks my dogs are scary because they're small and he's afraid of small dogs tells somebody about how badass and really talented Auggie is. WHO ARE YOU??

Yesterday I was introduced to someone at work for the first time and it went like 'This is Lauren. She has dogs that can do tricks!'

And my dad 'I know you like messing with those dogs BUT...' <---- direct quote. And 'It's good to have hobbies BUT...' <--- I was trying to say I'd EVENTUALLY years down the line like to teach a few classes in my spare time for some $$

AND I have had classes with 3 different husband/wife teams that do agility together. Where do you find these men? Can I sign up?

And at the barn hunt there were several more husband/wife teams each running their dog. My nosework instructor and her husband both trial in nosework and he does therapy work with his dog. Apparently these men exist... somewhere.

Hahaha, the part about your grandmother thinking that you're a lesbian actually made me laugh out loud, but I promise it's not at you. It just made me imagine what would happen if my own grandmother suspected that I was a lesbian. She spent the first 60 years of her life in China and very much fits the stern professor Asian grandmother stereotype. I should probably at least enter a fake marriage in a few years because if I ever give her reason to think I'm a lesbian... I don't think she'd survive the horror.

Probably doesn't help that I constantly make comments about women I'd do :rofl1: It's not my fault Emilia Clarke is so attractive?

I don't even have crazy dog lady going for me, because not many people in my life even know I'm into dogs. I'm just... the crazy single lady, I guess I do agree with your observation - most breeders and handlers I know are middle aged single women who don't want kids. As far as I know, they're very happy with their lives and that's awesome. But I couldn't do that. I want a boyfriend/future husband and I know I'll end up having a kid eventually and really, dogs are a hobby. Trent is my life, but dogs as a whole aren't (despite being my greatest obsession).

I am of the opinion that there are more hot guys running agility internationally. Canada has them. The UK has them. We just don't have them in the US... CURSES.
I am not opposed to marrying some hot British agility guy, I'm totally not. In fact I am MORE than open to this idea!


I think I just need to find new friends. None of them apparently know my future husband anyway, and the one guy REFUSES to introduce me to Tim Tebow even though he TOTALLY can. Jerk.

Yeah my grandma is very interesting about it. They're all super conservative and well... redneck. I'd say Texan baptists if you count that since she probably hasn't been to church since my mom was a little kid. But very... men belong with women and not other men and black people marry black people and all that fun stuff. She is losing a lot of her mental capacities lately so it seems to be more of a joke vs her being really horrified/concerned about me. I told her last time I saw her that the men I know are either taken or gay (truth) and she accepted that and told me some hilarious story about a woman with 5 ex husbands. lol

I'm pretty sure some other relatives are horrified.

I don't think I want kids but I do want a husband. :/

Okay, mine doesn't do agility.
Chronic smoker...I'd be afraid of him running that much anyways LOL
But he has shown interest in dock diving which is something.

I met him on a whim at some random bar a few hours away from my place called "Dirty Dog Saloon." He was NOT a dog person, or pet person in general when I first met him. Had to shape him that way

Haha she is. I mentioned casually once that I'd do her in a conversation I had with a few old high school friends, when we were talking about Game of Thrones. Later realized that a few of them probably thought that I was lesbian/bi but eh, not a problem!

My grandma's definitely conservative but isn't outspoken about it. Instead, she gives the sternest of stern/disapproving looks. My mother is the opposite but her favorite past time is nagging me about getting a boyfriend or asking me while I won't date this one particular friend of mine. I do have a lot of single guy friends, and we complain to each other about being single and talk about relationships all the time, but my guy friends are too... girly for me. Can't think of a better word right now, but while they aren't feminine, they fit more of the stereotypes for females in relationships than they do for males.

At this moment I can't see myself having kids, but somehow I still know it's something I'll do eventually. It doesn't make sense but that's how I've seen it for the last several years I definitely, definitely want a husband though. I want a guy who will commit to living his life with me as a companion and partner and someone to go out to eat with and watch movies with and drive me places when I need a driving buddy. Yeah, mostly I want a "go do things with me" buddy. Better than having just friends because we'd be the most important to each other, and also because of sexy times.

Rofl, mine loves our dogs, he isn't interested in competing, or even watching, but he LOVES driving places so he will happily haul our asses all over to go to compete, so I'll take it.

This. Guys just TRAIN them. SO liked dogs but wouldn't have one on his own. Now he goes to classes and asks about Chaz. He even said he felt bad for not bonding with Gwen and said he'd try harder.
