have you seen them in your area? OMG...they make me cry EVERY time. hubby now covers my eyes...puts the tv on 'mute'...when they come on. because I seriously cry. they claim they want to find homes for those dogs that are 'lost'. I am not buying into it totally. (GAG..I don't buy into anything Pedigree says..) but....seeing those commercials......ok. I know there is a 'projection' we do to dogs that isn't realistic. we 'project' human emotions that are not there. but.....watch those commercials......and I don't care......you WILL cry. :( THEY MAKE ME CRY..REAL TEARS..............

Me too...especially that "I'm a good dog...." one. I heard the one they were showing this weekend--the one where "Echo" is disappointed he doesn't get picked by the family at the shelter--I heard he really did get a great home and they were overwhelmed with e-mails asking about him....so I think the emotional impact of those comnmercials does a lot of good for shelter dogs--even if pedigree is a poor quality food.

Me too, Debi. As much as I *hate* Pedigree, I love that commercial, maybe it will get someone to adopt over buying from a pet store, who knows.

The "I'm a good dog" one broke my heart while they were airing it, but I haven't seen it for a while...
Echo's ad was on almost every break during the Puppy Bowl... I would have adopted him!!! He's adorable.

Erm...how do you cry over a commercial that just says "My name is such and such, and I'm a good dog" with a picture of a dog?

The only one that was slightly moving is Echo just because he does look disappointed, but it's not a genuine emotion from him being portrayed, it's 'acting'. He was trained to run up to the cage and sit as the people come by.

OH aren't they the worst... they always make me tear up.

Or the one about for every dog adopted another one is left behind and it shows that dog watching the people walk right by him. UGH.

and yes the "I'm a good dog" one always gets me too

That's not the good dog one I am thinking of....

the one I am thinking of is the one where he says "I'm a good dog." and goes on to describe why he is a good dog and then says I don't deserve to be here I"m a GOOD dog.

and SURe that dog was trained to do that trick... but that is a face I have seen on many a dog in the shelter and it IS real... not a trick.

My hubby keeps telling me that we have done our part and done what we can for now by rescuing our two... we can't bring home anymore right now lol. But seeing them in their cages at the shelter.... heart breaking. Breaks my heart to think of any dog that feels that sad.

This is the good dog one
http://youtube.com/watch?v=OAxOtp4vDJQ

"I don't know how I ended up here"

it's sad because they ARE good dogs. YES we know the dogs in the commercials are just actors... but have you been to the shelter and seen the REAL dogs these commercials are about?

Poor Belle was in the shelter over 6 months. She's a GOOD girl. she's not the brightest dog in the world but she is the most loving, loyal, sweetheart of a dog you could ever have. WHY was she there? and why that long?

I may be projecting human feelings onto them but I KNOW Beezer and Belle gets sad, scared, and sick. I can't imagine them feeling that way with no one to love them and make them feel better.

I cry because I know it's the truth--the countless dogs are sitting in shelters right now waiting for a good home. I cry because I know that countless dogs are put in shelters every day for silly meaningless reasons...

I have to mute the TV whenever that commercial with Sarah McLaughlin comes on and that "In the Arms of the Angels" song is playing. I think it's a support your local aspca commercial. I tear up every time :(
