I am so excited for you both! This breed has been on my list of "learn more about" for a future dog... so Linds, when you're breeding (you're going to breed, right?) you might be hearing more from me.
I can not wait for puppeh peektures!

That we can.... I'm just dreaming for a temperamentally stable girly that is a rockstar at agility. If she's crazy colored, that's awesome. If she's solid, that's awesome too. There are pros and cons to both, I couldn't even honestly say what color I'm hoping for right now. :)
At this point my fingers and toes are just crossed the litter has two females.

Traveler's litter was two males and one female and I'm gonna be stressing until they are on the ground.

I had a look on the Toolalla FB page, is this Andy and Belle's litter? They are seriously stunning, they will be beautiful puppies! I'll keep my fingers crossed for females :)

I am going to be swimming in jealousy for the next year or five, fyi.

Are merle to merle breedings common in Koolies?
From what I understand, yes. Rather like Catahoulas, they seem to be a breed with a lot of cryptic merles, highly colored merles, and very little white as a rule. Supposedly like Catahoulas they don't generally have the issues seen in the flashy white merles of the common US breeds. I don't know how much testing or real data collection has been done on that, though.

Like Shai said. Newer breeders tend towards solids to merles but s so much of the breed has always been Merle to Merle its hard toknow with out them being tested who is really a solid.

Most breeders breed to the heavily mereled dogs with little white or heavy solid patches. Seem to minimize the issues. Would love more studies but they would be hard to do and ethically questionable

Makes sense. I've always found that curious about the Catahoulas.

And, now I'll have a Koolie close enough to meet sometime!

Do you mind me asking the difference or reasoning behind Koolies and Coolies, is there a reason for the different spelling, or is it just down to preference?
