I think before it is all over she is going to understand the meaning in the saying BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR! My mom had a licensed daycare in the home. I know what it is like to be surrounded by 6 children and babies. THere is no normal life for her other children..even with each other and that had to be stressful enough. I really feel for them, their childhood is over as they know it. I imagine it will be all hands on deck and everyone pitching in to raise all these babies. EVEN SO i still don't see how they are going to make it work.

They've already confirmed they children will very likely not be normal - too many, too small, etc.

I imagine the gov't will be helping her raise these kids very shortly. She's already collected disability once, it wouldn't be hard to do it again.

Ideal world? What ideal world? She SHOULD give them up for adoption but she won't. You cannot have that many children at one time and give them even close to normal childhoods. The other six children are definitely going to suffer for this.

It's a ridiculous situation. There's no way ANY of those 14 children are going to have even close to a normal, healthy, loving upbringing. There's just too many, too fast.

I really don't know how she's going to do this, really, I don't. Even with one baby it's difficult plus I had my husband for support. It's costly and time consuming....never mind the fact that they'll only have a few minutes with mom in total during the day, she can't really give much more with 14 kids under the age of 8.

And is it only me or does she look like she's had plastic surgery. I know, it's non of my business, but those lips don't usually pout like that naturally. lol She sort of resembles Angelina in a funky way.

Her mother has paid for ALL food, ALL rent, ALL expenses for the six children she is taking care of. The daughter got over $138,000 in disability and gave NONE of it to her mother to help with rent or food.

Disgusting!

Duh, fertility treatments are expensive! The money had to go towards providing her 6 kids with baby brothers and sisters.

HOLY CRAP. You are not implying that these babies are good because they create jobs?! KILLING PEOPLE creates jobs (forensic experts, police, police dog trainers, lawyers...the list goes on. Should I go around killing people to lessen unemployment?
Yes, yes, you should. I will have a hit list ready for you by 5. :p ;)

Kidding, everyone, kidding!

BigDogs, I have never heard an argument made that the US suffers from underpopulation. Quite the opposite, in fact. I do think that it is widely believed that illegal immigrants do work that many US citizens are unwilling to do, or are willing to do it much more cheaply and/or without some of the protections given US citizens. I fail to see the connection to the rates of abortion in this country.

HBH, that was an interesting article. I really want to stop reading this stuff, so as to refrain from supporting all of this media attention, but omg! This woman is a loon! I feel bad for her mom; I wonder if she'll really be able to walk away.

One good thing is that social services should be keeping an eye on this family. :(

Bigdog. If America runs as a pyramid scheme you are in trouble! Pyramid schemes have a history of collapsing.

The mom said she doesn't receive welfare. However, the L.A. Times found out that she's on food stamps. Almost $500 a month, plus three of her older children are receiving disability from the government.

Octuplet's mom on food stamps, publicist says - Kids and parenting- msnbc.com

When confronted about his client's lying about food stamps and disability, her publicist said, "They are part of programs designed to help people with need, and she does not see that as welfare."

What the heck does she think Welfare IS?? And she already has three children on disability payments.....wonder how long it will be before she adds the octuplets? Eleven disability payments a month is a lot of cash.

CaliTer,
Basically, the US operates on a pyramid scheme, requiring more and more children to be born to support the system as it is. There are millions of US babies being aborted because of parents not wanting them, and then the government claims that there aren't enough legal people to support the system, and so that makes the necessity of employing illegal immigrants for the influx of tax dollars.

Now, in an ideal world, the mother could place those babies up for adoption to families who are desperately trying to adopt a baby. She would quickly become a hero.
wait wait wait wait wait...wait.....wait.....are you saying the US is underpopulated?

A piece of me hopes that the state takes the babies away from her and puts them up for adoption, since she obviously can't afford to care for them (especially if grandma isn't providing). I feel cruel thinking that, but it's what would be best for the babies (and maybe it would convince people to stop trying to have ginormous families all at once--because if she gets a tv show, she won't be the last mother of octuplets)

She's on food stamps, but has a publicist? o_O Does not compute.

I feel sorry for the poor grandma. And for the kids. I hope they do well in life despite their crazy mother.

I did enjoy the book Cheaper by the Dozen, but . . . I don't know . . . it was a different era. And they were always self-supporting, both the parents were production engineers or something like that. Frankly, I don't think much of anyone who has a zillionty children in this day and age; that's just adding to overpopulation.
