I wanted to transplant Happy's flowers over to my house. I missed doing it in spring so I've been waiting for a good time to do it. Well, my mom bought a bunch of daylilies from a daylily farm here and asked the owner about transplanting. He said you can transplant in the summer just fine, but they won't bloom anymore after being transplanted; he also said you can do it in the fall, you have to be sure to do it four weeks before a frost, or they won't survive.
We're expecting another really cold winter, so I decided I would rather transplant them and have them stop blooming this year but at least survive rather than risk losing his flowers. I also found a new daylily plant called "Just Plum Happy" so I bought two of those and then transplanted his flowers (the variety name of these is "Happy Returns.") One of them had also gotten REALLY big so I went ahead and divided it.
I was terrified because I really really didn't want his flowers to die. I mean... stupidly emotional over flowers. But I just wanted them to survive the move more than anything. I've been watering them a lot to make sure they do okay after being transplanted and divided.
Today is super hot so I went over to water them after the gym, and...
Won't flower anymore, huh?
This is one I divided.
The other half of the one I divided.
I think Happy likes my new house.
Bonus, I got my backyard garden mostly planted too, and broke down and bought mulch to finish it off. I hope nobody tries to eat mulch and chokes to death on it. Sigh.
