I took Rhys and Maggie (mom and dad's terrier mix) to their first barn hunt today! All and all it was really fun and went well.

Rhys's instinct test was first and I goofed it for him. He was so excited about the rats that I called too early. I ran Maggie in instinct next and learned my lesson. Called her correctly so she got her RATI.

Ran them both in Novice with no training and I am so proud. Rhys had a great systematic search, found his rats and I called correctly. He climbed bales but we ran out of time for the tunnel (I did spend some extra time praising him for the rats since it was his first time). The judge was awesome and helped me tunnel him after so he could start learning what to do.

Maggie was a little more wild but that's to be expected. She's mom and dad's pet and not terribly well-trained. But she found rats too! Gave really clear indications about the empty tube and the tube with litter in it.

Overall I'm very very pleased with the level of aptitude they both went in there with considering I've done NO prep at all for Barn Hunt :)

Abrams snapped his chain and I forgot to purchase a replacement today, and since I can't get him out the door on a leash without him peeing and it is way to freaking cold to stand outside with him every time he has to pee, I've been rewarding him with a treat when he comes back to the door after going to the bathroom. Which works to get him to come straight to the door when he's done...but is backfiring, because now he gets so excited to get to the door he isn't completely emptying his bladder and he has to pee 5x more frequently than he should have to. Stupid dog.

Squash had a chiro appointment today, and after he was done and we were chit chatting and scheduling his next appointment Squash half-perched (front feet only) on a chair and stared expectantly at us for a real long time.

STAND ON ALL THE THINGS, IN ALL THE PLACES.

My mom and dad's dog, Maggie, we think is half mini schnauzer and half Boston terrier. She's 4 now and pretty much a pet with average-ish obedience.

My puppy, Rhys, is an 9 month old American Staffordshire terrier. He's my performance/conformation prospect. Both are typical terriers and have strong prey drive, which came in handy!

Feist has a new bed time routine, including but not limited to nest building and attempts at blanket humping, and she must hold something in her mouth (toy, leash, a human limb) while she does or attempts to do prior mentioned activities. Why dog why.

I got a comment today that Roxie has a "Golden Retriever puppy's head".

Okie dokie, then. Lol, I'm kind of confused as to why everyone thinks she's still a puppy.

I don't know.

Siri and Frodo were playing chase around the living room, unsuspecting boyfriend walked out from the bedroom and Siri nailed him in the back of the knee. Boyfriend ends up splayed out on the ground, terrier puppy completely unscathed.

I'm assisting in a few more classes now, get to take agility for free, have another disc workshop coming up with another beginner disc class on it's heels, my continuing disc class is full of awesome people who are doing great, and I get to spend my Saturdays now hanging around and training/playing with my dogs in their facility in between assisting, teaching and taking classes!

Loving it so much!

Went to the store to buy cat litter, somehow ended up buying a biothane leash.
And a collar night light.

Guess I'm expecting a lot of walking in our future.

YAY! That's basically what my Saturdays are, too. Except I don't take classes - just teach them and get to work my dogs. It's the best way to spend a weekend day :D

Took Kimma and Bubby to a Barn Hunt seminar thing. Bubby had been to one before, but had shown little interest in the rats. Well, that's basically how it went today for her, too LOL. She wanted the people to pet her WAY more than she even cared about the rat. She alerted to it by squeaking at the tube quickly then just walked away hahaha.

Kimma, OTOH, was AWESOME! She bark pointed it! And she had shown no interest in the rat in a cage, so go figure. She checked each tube when it was set up for the instinct test and just went back to the correct one and started to get more and more worked up. Then we tried a higher hide in some bales, and she alerted like as soon as I let her go - she went right to it. I'm so impressed. Climbed on all the bales, and we a bit cautious of doing a tunnel with them, but did it just fine.

So Kimma has yet ANOTHER thing to trial in. As if she needed something else LOL. And Bubby, well, Bubby just really wants to get therapy certified apparently :p

I just want breeders to email me back :( I've sent out a number of enquiries detailing my experience, my timeframe, and my goals, and I feel as though I was complimentary to their programs. I put a lot of effort into each email, and nothing. Not a word, except from a breeder in the Netherlands (who to be fair answered promptly, nicely, and informatively, so it hasn't all been bad).

I always feel awkward sending multiple emails, but after a certain point, I start to wonder whether they just...forgot about it? I don't know. Email is the only way I have to contact some of these people (and I'm horrible on the phone, so ordinarily I don't mind that), but if I never get any messages back, I'm not really sure where to go from there. I understand they're busy, I really do, I just find this whole thing stressful.

I know I'm being whiney, but this is what happened before I got Astro, and it's part of why I went with a rescue dog in the end.

How long has it been since you emailed? This is also my least favorite part about the breeder search lol. It takes me a looooong time to type up that initial email, and if I don't get a response there is 0% chance I'm going to send another one, because I'm weird and awkward and figure if they didn't respond, it's because they don't like me.

Thankfully the current breeder I'm in touch with is super good about emailing promptly, generally I do my internets late at night and I'll have a response by the next afternoon. It works nicely with the impatient part of me.

Tonight I bathed Frodo with shampoo and conditioner. It's the first time I've used separate shampoo and conditioner. I'm excited to see if it makes a difference.

I laughed...a lot. Ryan....laughed after he picked himself up off the floor. :p

For some of them...upwards of 2-a month. I've been on the breeder hunt for awhile now. That's awesome that you found one who responds quickly and consistently!

And I guess all I had to do was whine, because my absolute top choice emailed me last night AND this morning, and gave me their phone number to talk in more depth. Won't even mention the breed, don't want to jinx anything :p
