And I guess all I had to do was whine, because my absolute top choice emailed me last night AND this morning, and gave me their phone number to talk in more depth. Won't even mention the breed, don't want to jinx anything :p
Yay!!

And yeah often when people gripe about how folks go to the store and buy a puppy or get one out of the classifieds, I always want to point out how *easy* that is. If those of us who live and breathe dogs have a hard time finding compatible breeders, establishing communication, etc., of course most casual owners, including many many perfectly good pet homes, aren't going to want to deal with it.

My neighbor built a snowman.

Abrams must now bark at the snowman every time he goes outside, because, you know, snowmen are people, too. He charges it barking, then gives it a kiss and goes about his merry way. Every single time he goes outside.

Have I mentioned my dog doesn't have many brain cells?

I want to buy Feist a new tag with 'you can call me queen bitch' on it (ala 'royals' but Feist version), but trying to save money. So sad.

I just want breeders to email me back :( I've sent out a number of enquiries detailing my experience, my timeframe, and my goals, and I feel as though I was complimentary to their programs. I put a lot of effort into each email, and nothing. Not a word, except from a breeder in the Netherlands (who to be fair answered promptly, nicely, and informatively, so it hasn't all been bad).

I always feel awkward sending multiple emails, but after a certain point, I start to wonder whether they just...forgot about it? I don't know. Email is the only way I have to contact some of these people (and I'm horrible on the phone, so ordinarily I don't mind that), but if I never get any messages back, I'm not really sure where to go from there. I understand they're busy, I really do, I just find this whole thing stressful.

I know I'm being whiney, but this is what happened before I got Astro, and it's part of why I went with a rescue dog in the end.
I had a similar experience. I also *hate* emailing people multiple times and trying to get a response because I feel like I'm harassing them. The worst was when someone said I was on the waiting list and still barely returned my emails. I had to bug her to find out that there weren't enough puppies for everyone - I don't know why she wouldn't just send emails to everybody on the list who didn't get a pup. It took at least a week or two post-puppies being born to find out I wasn't getting one and had to start over. It definitely taught me to talk to multiple breeders and not put all of my eggs in one basket.

Glad you got a response! I hope it works out! I can't wait to find out what breed you went with after your "what breed for me" thread a few months ago.

I got invited to join a friend at a JRT trial in CT in May. So excited!

My friend moved to Vermont a few years ago, and I haven't seen her since, but have had contact on FB. When she lived here she had the best JRT girl, who has since passed. Last year she got a JRT girl pup, and is going to get a boy pup in a few months.

Yesterday she invited me to join her and act as puppy wrangler (for the little one) at her first JRT trial. I've never been to terrier trial and it looks like a blast. She is showing her girl in races, tracking, and go to ground, and said I could try her new pup in conformation if he's old enough.

I'm disappointed she won't get to meet Watson though, and that he can't come with. I'm sure he would have a blast playing with JRT pups.

Talon's last class is this Wednesday :( But, I enrolled him in the "Keep Calm and Carry On" class, which is their reactive dog class, and that starts this coming sunday! :D lol He's been doing so well keeping his cool in his current class (just an intermediate class) that my instructor told us he can join any class he wants to, but we both feel the reactive dog class will help him overcome his fear of barking dogs, which is his main trigger. Well, that plus jingling tags. lol

So, excited and nervous for the new class and a new group of dogs! :)

Joey has the worst ass of all asses. His farts are like tear gas and literally choking me right now. No matter what type of food I feed him he always has nasty farts and it's bad enough to make you want to run out of the room. Anything I can do besides stick a cork in it?

If you find an answer to this, let me know. Abrams farts AND burps. He's gross.

Maybe a probiotic would help?

Friend of mine, and a member here (uh... She has Angel and Lucy) has had really good luck yogurt. Angel had really bad, incredibly frequent gas, and I believe its all but gone now. The few times she does fart, its once or twice, and it doesn't smell nearly as bad, from what I understand.

Really??? I might seriously have to try this. In fact, I'm getting some tomorrow. It's really bad. We have tried grain inclusive food, grain free, different protein sources, different brands... Seems whatever food he is on he has super nasty farts and he also farts a lot. Hopefully yogurt will help out.

So proud of my little Bloo dog. As I've mentioned, she isn't compatible with cats. One of our cats happens to think she is the spawn of Satan and actively tries to pick fights, even under doors (hooray two door rule!). I just walked Bloo out through the house on lead for her last potty of the night and, of course, the cat was sitting at the end of the hall, looking to pick a fight. I shoo'd her off and Bloo made no attempt to go after her, no pulling on the leash to walk by her, nothing.

She's come a really long way. I'll never trust her loose with them, but it gives me peace of mind should someone not close a door.

Finally got Roxie to play some tug with me. It was pretty intense, lol. Went on for a whole 20 minutes, so that gives me a lot of hope that she's pulling out of her sulking.

Previously, if she could bother to get up and play, she would just fetch it twice and if I tried to tug with her, she would hold it loosely and one short tug would have it sliding through her teeth.

Plus, she's actually on the couch with me right now. For the past two weeks, she had been just off in her bed in the game room, even if I was downstairs...

I know this whole "everyone aside from you and me is moving to the other house till we sell this one" thing has been tough on her, but I finally feel like I've got my shadow back. Definately something I need right now.

Progress :) Not bad at all.

Yeah, I would never do that, but at the same time, whenever I mention that I'm contacting breeders for months and months (and possibly a year or more) from now, and how many I've contacted, and this and that related to the process...most people's eyes tend to glaze over and I can tell they're thinking "just adopt get a cheap, easy one." Even my friends who know better sometimes get sucked in when we drive by signs that say "Mastiff puppies, AKC registered, $200." Doesn't help that there are pet stores all over this city :(

I had a similar experience. I also *hate* emailing people multiple times and trying to get a response because I feel like I'm harassing them. That's terrible! See, I understand not wanting to email bad news, but...it's still gonna happen anyway, so they might as well just do it! It's not like you wouldn't realize in the end that you hadn't gotten a dog :p And with the initial breeder emails, more than once I've thought "just send an 'I'm busy but I've received your email and will get to it when I can'" message. Anything's better than silence, just let me know that you actually got what I sent you!

And thanks, I'm super excited...I still keep waffling on breeds (there are a couple gorgeous examples of other breeds I was looking at, walking around near where I work, and they always make me turn my head to look at them, and reconsider...). But ultimately I think I'll be happy in my decision, if this works out.

Yay! Gavroche can't be around cats either, but twice now he's gotten into the room with my parents' cats, and both times he came running out screaming. Last time he even peed a little lol.

same here ... deep down I believe that I will end up with another ACD, but that doesn't keep me from looking at rotties or GSDs and going "hmmm" lol

This morning I dropped a portion of Cohen's breakfast into her bowl and grabbed another portion to bring into our work/training room. She left the majority of what I'd dropped into her bowl to follow me into the other room looking to work with me. The Chihuahua got double breakfast.

R+ training: about more than just the food.
