Chomper has really picked up awesome on following where I want him to go working on some ground work for agility, and just for fun did some straight work with Little Foot working on him sitting, staying, and waiting for my release to run over the two bars we had as jumps on the ground. Good boys, they are. Now to keep splurging on items slowly....

Found a smelly old hound dog in the middle of the busiest road in town on my way back from my lunch break. He was happy to see me and walked nicely on the leash all the way back to work. (Working at doggy daycare means having a leash in my pocket at all times). We put him in a crate with a bowl of water in a quiet room. Called the number on his tag and left a message, didn't hear back for a few hours, so I googled the owner's name, found out she owns a local business, called, and told her we have her dog. Yay Google!

THANKS OZ, I JINXED MY DOG.

Kidding, but I did break her I think. We hiked about 10k up a hill in New York this past weekend (she probably did closer to 15k with all her backtracking and zigzagging off leash) and she borked herself.

Sooo lame on BOTH hind legs - it's only ever been the left one before. She tried to jump into bed before I could stop her and her legs gave out and she really whimpered. She was not lame the next morning but her gait still seems a liiittle funky - can't tell if I'm seeing things or not. So off to the specialist.

Sure as ****, as soon as the weather gets nice and hot and perfect for long hikes by the river, she breaks.

Considering the people I got him from couldn't recognize a penis, I doubt that show quality even entered their minds. :lol-sign:

I just found out that Dog Scouts is a thing. Did everyone else already know about this? http://dogscouts.org/
I just clicked on the website (have not looked into it much yet), but basically... Canine Good Citizen, except boy scouts? But dog scouts?

Also, clearly a purebred and excellently built Weim. I don't know what you guys are talking about. :rofl1:

Hank always seems very easy to live with. I just discovered what severely under-excercised (due to weather) Hank is like. Yep. Found that breaking point. Boy needs a good run.

Holy ****. This morning I woke up with a very sore back. Come to find out that it is covered in scratches and bruises from teaching Fable a back stall (probably because she thinks that I'm asking her to do a rebound off of my back, which hurts far more than her doing a correct back stall).

Maybe we'll put a pin in the back stall for a while.

Fable must be very heavy on her feet! She's not more than 40 pounds, is she?

haha, I feel you. When I was first teaching Hugo the back stall, I would reward him getting on and then getting off (at first he was hesitant to jump back off). He ended up SHOVING himself off of me several times, raking his nails down my back. He's not heavy on his feet, he's only 40lbs, but two incidences of him pushing off as hard as he could with his back feet were enough to scrape me up. Despite the fact that we dremel twice a week and I keep them super short.

It gets better as they become more coordinated, lol.

I've never done crate games, myself. Mine just got put in when needed with their toys, chews, and depending on the day something like a duck foot or other fast to eat chew, and left. Both love their crate though, and especially find it a cosy place to sleep - even my mom's dogs who never have been crated at home will be found sleeping in there. Guess the bed we got on super sale was a good one. :rofl1:

I would just like to take a moment to say how much I absolutely hate crate games. >.<
I've turned into the person I used to hate, who sings the praises of Crate Games as the solution for every problem. Watching Gusto's brain click on "Oh, it is this game. I know this game already" while teaching him to wait at the door, stay on the table, or hold a start line when I never even bothered teaching him a stay (outside of the crate) turned me into a crazy cult member.

I'm going to go smack myself now.

I don't follow any specific "crate games" program. But Hugo used to bark/whine/refuse to crate when asked. We started doing 3 minutes every day of popping in the crate and getting jackpotted for relaxed behavior going in and coming out (he used to fly out of the crate and bounce off of everything when let out). Now he puts himself in his crate as soon as I start to pick up the antler I let him have in it and waits calmly. He also leaves his crate calmly. I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone, but it made his crate behavior better.

What makes you hate crate games? Is it just that it's espoused as a "fix-all" when it's really only one small training tool to have in your bag? I'm honestly curious- always wanting to learn more! : )

I am assuming she is talking Susan Garrett's crate games specifically. Not just generally playing games with the crate. I'm not a big crate games fan either if it makes you feel better.
