Day 1 of total lockdown for Rigby. - Her new vet advised it after the xrays were clear but the limp is still there.
No freedom, no outside except to pee, no playing, no fetch. Just crate.

I feel like some teenager that's trying to hide a dog in my room without my parents knowing. I've got the crate set up in my room, I brought her dinner up to her.
Luckily she seems to be enjoying this waiting on her every need stuff for now. Let's see how she is by the end of the week....

Hikes are not the same without her :(

Ugh, that's awful. I went through the same thing for Venice last summer, on and off crate rest for 6 months. She missed the whole summer.

Sending vibes and vibes, I know it must feel lousy having to leave her behind when you and the rest of the gang go places.

You might consider putting a crate in the main living area, too. That's what we did when Aeri was on crate rest so she could still be with us vs being away from everything.

I thought about it. But I spend most of my time in my room when I'm home, and I don't really trust my family to keep her crated properly.

Even if they were trustworthy, I'm also a little concerned that it would be more stress for her. Usually once it gets dark she goes to bed, but runs down when my dad and Cobain start their nightly game of house-fetch. She can't stand to see a ball thrown and not chase it. So I'm not sure if she'd be better upstairs where she can't see it, or down having to watch it but not play.

Why do they always have to do this when the good weather comes?!

How's Venice now? Did she heal okay?
She did. From December to just this past week she showed no symptoms. Now it's flared up a little again. :( Not strict rest, but not the long, rambling, 2-hour walks I like to do when it's warm.

Ugh, why can't there be any good koolie breeders in North America? Or if there are, why can't I find them?

Boyfriend and I are going to Australia in 2017, and we fully intend on planning around a litter I like and bringing a puppy back with us. It is just really nerve wracking that most koolie breeders are still really "old-fashioned" and pretty much require you to pick a puppy at birth, and I will have no idea about temperment. I really don't even have any way of knowing if the parents are what I want.

Someone needs to deliver a small, bratty, drivey, boisterous, loud, water-loving girl koolie puppy to my door, please.

I am camping with the family. There is some lady in the camp ground with a ridiculously ripped Border. We were in the dog park at the campground and she has nerve enough to hint if Addie was a stray and if she could have her because she is a carbon copy of her Border as a puppy. She was totally feeling out our thoughts on it then admitted that was what she was going to say!

Um, my dog has bright, shiney eyes, a shiney, healthy, well taken care of coat, she's not malnourished and she has a not so cheap collar with 3 forms of ID. Sound like a stray? She might be itty bitty, but she is MY itty bitty.

I can't believe people sometimes.

Wow, that is some nerve!!

Something similar happened to me once when out walking Roxie- some dude asked if I was selling Roxie because he wanted a guard dog for his kid and Rox looked like a good guard dog.

Uh, no. Just no.

People who think that they have a right to any and every thing, lol.

I pretty much responded like, "er, if you think you can provide the exercise, training, and amount of medication it takes to keep this dog from tweaking and falling apart, as well $90 dollars for a small bag of food, I suppose I can try to work something out with you?"

Granted, I did kinda go overboard on the exaggeration, but at least he backed off lol. And ended up getting a Dobe and Great Dane, which were very unstable and had puppies a year later :O

I think Roxie is pleased to still be mine.

Crazy people that talk a KOA into blocking 45 minutes at the campground's dog park for themselves, because their "working" Border is too intense for other dogs and people (sorry, but a Border used to spending 24/7 herding - why are you taking that dog camping???).

So Hank is pretty much the best thing ever.

We've had 6 dogs in my house all week plus a bunch of family. We didn't do any exercise all week long and he did great. We didn't train. Nada. This weekend he was a pro hanging out and was the life of the party for all my kid relatives. They thought it was hilarious to have him rebound off them and thought how he could climb the retaining wall was cool. He played tug with each of them and really tones it down for them (they're 18 months to about 6/7 years). He had ALL the kids chasing him this afternoon around the yard. He wasn't running full out but would dodge each of them and zig and zag. Wore them all out. He is really the best family dog and just a pleasure to be around. Everyone loved him and I was told a few times 'Man I wish I had a dog like that!'

He is so well balanced that it amazes me all the time! He's incredibly easy to live with but still so fun to train and wild in agility. It is funny how much all the kids love him. Every time I would go get him out of the crate they'd all come running and yelling 'Hank's out! Hank's out! Yay!' And then they'd all play and wear each other out.

Hank adores kids.

Sigh... Michaela is reactive to other dogs (mostly the ones who try to get in her face or give her a hard stare). There's one dog at obedience class who is an in-your-face kind of dog and her owner is oblivious to where she is in relation to other dogs. I do my best to keep my distance from them, keep Michaela's attention on me and this darned woman let's her dog pull her right over to us. The woman agrees with everything the instructor tells her to do, but can't seem to carry out instructions, and, like I've said, can't seem to watch her dog and her position to other dogs at the same time. At least there's only one more class...

Day 5 of crate rest. I kinda think Rigby is enjoying it.

Right now the crate is wide open (my door is shut), and she's still happily staying in there. She also sits at the top and bottom of the stairs so she can be carried down/up on her way outside.

The only thing that seems difficult for her right now is when she's outside she just wants to play. It's really hard to keep her calm then, but otherwise I'm seeing a huge improvement in her gait and she's just been really pleasant about the whole thing so far.
