I'm so proud of Abrams! Michael brought him to the clinic today to have pictures taken during our open house. He did so well. He's been having issues barking at people/other dogs, but I think now I've realized it has more to do with guarding (aka, when he is in the car and sees people approaching) or defensiveness towards people/dogs acting out of character (a pug came flying through the door like a bat out of hell barking and growling and spinning at everything and Abrams was VERY unhappy about it and let everyone in the vicinity know it). Besides mouthing off to a grumpy dog or two, he was SO well behaved. Very polite, accepted petting from everyone, no jumping, listened extremely well, and was just an all around good boy. He got SO many compliments, too, mainly about how big he was (I mean, he's a really thick set large dog, but he still doesn't seem too large to me compared to, like, a Mastiff...maybe he just has a big presence?) and how handsome he was.

Made me happy. :)

I was absent-mindedly throwing a toy for Jari and he was bringing it back to tug, out, throw, etc., and then it hit me...

THE DOG IS BRINGING THINGS BACK TO TUG WITH ME. What sorcery is this??!??! Halloween miracles.

(And I'm betting it will never happen again/never happen anywhere off my property LOL)

It always makes me laugh when people get to see the "real Cajun."

I have a friend who Cajun sees A LOT. She's the one who I always go to the park with and do my dog stuff with. But this is pretty much the only context Cajun has ever seen her in - at the park. Never at my house. And Cajun has never acted happy to see her and quite frankly just doesn't acknowledge her at all. Well anyway tonight she came over to hang out and Cajun was freaking IN LOVE and just wouldn't stop trying to crawl in her lap and shove her nose in her face. And my friend was like "what is wrong with your dog." Uh nothing this is just her lol but not everybody gets to be on the receiving end of her obnoxious affection! :p

Panzer did so amazing this Halloween with all the kids in costumes coming to the door. Once he realized it was just kids coming to the door all he wanted to do was love up on them. He also got really good at sitting and waiting my the door. I just love my boys temperament.

Flyball was fun if loud and long... 5 hours of screaming dogs (one of the worst being mine of course).

He enjoyed it but definitely wants to chase dogs vs go for his tug sometimes. So... work in progress.

Folks on the trail today: PLEASE CONTROL YOUR DOGS.* Your silver lab is not as friendly as you think it is. Your chihuahua is going to lose if they get into Zobby's face. Your GSD puppy is adorable but v. rude. Please make this a safe space for everyone. Reel 'em in!

*this does not apply to the pit/am. bully people we saw; to a person they displayed excellent control over their dogs and manners towards people. Rock on.

So. Many. Ticks.

Love hiking with Chomper.

But. So. Many. Ticks.

I feel him over, nothing, then the next day find another one that's grown!

Have to admit it's kind of interesting pulling them off, but at the same time, get out of here!

I always regret it every time I take Juno & Cajun to the park together, because it mostly just ends up being a stressful/frustrating time with me constantly having to put Cajun in a time out. But it's just so much more convenient so today I decided okay, I'll take them both but they're going to have to put up with some sad alone time in the car because I'm not letting them loose together.

I went with my friend. It was her car. I took Juno out to play first, then when we were done and I went to put her in the car and grab Cajun... pee. Pee all over the backseat. WHAT in the heck dog. I'm trying to convince myself it was a total accident and that she really, really had to go and couldn't hold it or something because that has certainly never happened before. Thank God my friend was cool with it but she's definitely never going to let me do THAT again.

But seriously, the park visit was so nice aside from that one incident.

Had a fabulous day at lure coursing, and a frank discussion about whether Uly is ever going to be a safe dog to place. He's such a sweet, lovable dog...but the more he settles in the less predictable he becomes. If Briz wasn't so unhappy living with him I'd just keep him, but pet/kid-free experienced homes willing to take an unpredictable dog with a bite history are exceedingly rare.

This may be the most beautiful dog I've ever seen.

This is one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen. Yellow with husky markings and maybe merling? With bright blue eyes? Yeah, if I met her at the shelter I would probably go home with her. . .

He sounds like quite the character! Hopefully he feels better soon. Poor guy, even if it is his own fault lol.

----------------------------------------------------

My grandma lost her little dog to a freak accident last month. I had a 30 page photobook made for her with most of the photos I'd ever taken of Aura, and while it's beautiful in person, I feel bad giving it to her because I know it'll make her sad. :-( What makes it worse is that Aura should still be alive and well and this was supposed to be a happy Christmas gift... and now it's a sad gift. But I hope the memories will help. So bittersweet. I hope she likes it.

That is so beautiful, and you are the best granddaughter. I'm sure she will agree with me on that.

I have completely lost my voice due to head cold/chest cold.

Other than strange strangly squeaking and hand signals, I have no way to communicate with my Border Collie puppy.

It's going to be a long day.

I spend a lot of time researching breeds and playing online dog SIMs trying to figure out what matches me. Sims are pretty much my way of indulging when otherwise unable to. Technically with a part time job I could go back to volunteering at a city shelter but at the same time my love of dogs is combating with a lot of bitterness and kind of makes it worse to be around them.

I really just want Nina back. Kind of weird knowing she's probably no more than 10 miles away from me but I spend a lot of time wondering if she'll remember me or if anything in her new life reminds her of me. I don't think about it often but the thoughts just sneak up on me. Like last night I just noticed I could move my legs across the bed unhindered, and felt pretty melancholy that there was no slowly breathing, black hunk of dog curled behind my knees. Gosh she was a turd A LOT but I love her.

Why are German Shepherds and Huskies so often lumped together when people are looking for a new dog?
"I want either a German Shepherd or a Husky"
or there's the ever sought after German Shepherd Husky mix.

Why?

From what I have seen and read, they are so vastly different in terms of just about everything beyond "Large sized with pricked ears" ...or is that the common denominator that people are looking for?

Quinn is so amazingly different than Zander in all the right ways. She is sweet and cuddly and concerned and she is so very AWARE. Zander is intelligent and aware in a stand-off-ish way, like you never really know what is going on in that head of his. But Quinn is so in your face and clear and direct with what she needs and wants and is thinking. If I cough, she comes to check on me. Zander doesn't flinch. She is high drive and such a crack-puppy, but she can also be quiet and gentle and so very aware of what is going on around her and the things going on with me. Never have to tell her twice that something hurt or that she went too far. She's apologetic and so very genuine.

Zander is my heart dog, but Quinn is what I needed. I guess sometimes they aren't the same thing. He feels like chains, she feels like a friend. I don't have to worry and fret and kill myself over her like I do him. I've never had so much faith, understanding, and trust in another sentient being before.

It's like having a child and having a partner. Just because you love them and will do anything for them, it doesn't necessarily mean you like them or mesh well with them. But in a partner, you choose to have that connection with someone you actually do like and mesh well with.

Or maybe I'm just anthromorph'n a bit too much here.

This last weekend we spent Saturday at an agility match. There was a lady there that I see around with a young border collie- very beautiful fast dog. Summer was all about trying to go say hi to this particular lady all day. Finally we were watching the rest of our class run and the lady was sitting on a cooler nearby. Before I knew it, Summer was in her lap giving her kisses.

I went to apologize and the lady told me not to and explained to me that her papillon had just recently passed away 2 weeks ago. She missed him and said he was the most intuitive, caring dog she'd had in her life. She missed how attuned to her he was. Summer sat in her lap for a long time while she told me about her dog. We agreed they're a wonderful, intelligent breed.

Summer does stuff like that all the time. She is drawn to all people of course but seems to pick out those that need her. I've had many total strangers sit there with Summer on their laps, telling me all about their lost beloved dog.
