I laid down for a bit beside Dekka and the box.. but as I have to be up at 6 (an hour and 20 min...) there isn't much point in trying to sleep.

Poor Dekka is really stoned. But she seems concerned if the puppies squeak. So that is a promising sign. Right now she isn't to be left alone with the pups, and I have to make sure they eat every 2 hours.. either by getting her to nurse them or by bottle.

The Large Immovable Puppy (also known as the plug) is the feistiest of all the pups. Which is surprising as it took a lot of effort to revive her after she was removed. (1/2 and hour before she was breathing on her own)

They are cute and seem like real little fighters.

Aww I'm sorry she had to have a c-section, but I'm so glad the puppies are doing well now, hopefully she'll start to warm up to them more that she's not so stressed. Congrats guys :)

I'm so sorry you guys had to go through with a C-Section but I'm glad Dekka and pups are fine, even the pup that was in the canal. Good thing you guys contacted the vet as soon as you knew it had been too long.

Just a question, I was always told that when a dog was spayed she would stop producing milk, is that false or...?

hmm so now we need to figure out how to keep Dekka and the pups in the box... Dekka's maternal instincts are kicking in, which is good, but she needs to settle. I went down to the bathroom only to hear a great ruckus upstairs. Mark runs up and there is Dekka trying to scale the expen (the surrounds her box) with a puppy in her mouth. She had popped open a stitch in her insision and there was drops of blood all over the floor.

So at least she knows she is supposed to look after the pups... she just wants to do so right beside me at all times. Even sitting on the love seat 4 feet from the box seems to incite her to stand at the door of the expen with a puppy in her mouth... At least she is gentle with the pups now.

(for those not in the ustream chat/vid last night... Dekka was NOT nice to the pup she gave birth too for the first while)

False.

Can you try her in a large crate? Or can you put a top over the expen, like maybe a sheet? She may really want more privacy and a den like environ since she wanted the closet. Try covering everything up so she feels she is not in view. I worried all night you were going to have to hand feed them. So her nursing and caring for them is VERY GOOD!

even with a lid she 'bounces'... she doesn't want to take them to the closet anymore.. she wants to bring them to me. I think she will get better... we laid on the bed together for a couple of hours till the pups wanted more food. She seems better now. I think she is scared the labour pain will come back and needs lots of reassurance.

Who's who? I know who the first pup is and that he's a boy but who's the boy and girl between the other two?
Washie is the first pup (male) who was actually born, he is the one with no body spots and a mask.

Katarra is the L.I.P. (large immovable puppy) she is the one with the eye patch.

Solo(? not sure about the name) is the last pup and is the one with the mask and body spot.
