See?
Everyone that counts always says that dogs are misidentified as pitbulls. Even though Messina came with papers stating that she's an american pitbull terrier, people are asking...

Is she a boxer cross? Is she a german shep/mastiff cross? Does she have lab in her?

Uhm...she's supposed to be an APBT....look at her pics on dogster and tell me guys...lol what do you think...

Keep in mind..she's only 55lbs...and her height is about 2 inches above my knees....and I'm 5'7''...so I dunno how tall that is..but not too big...
Anyways..here's her dogster:

Well, I'm definitely NOT an expert, but comparing your dog to the Pit Bulls I have personally seen myself ('in real life' lol) he does appear to be a lot bigger than all of them, but then again maybe its the pics. That's probably why people always ask you, his color resembles a mastiff, that and maybe his disposition? :)

She looks pit. Like a BIG pit but a pit all the same.

edit: On the find the pitbull website I guessed it right on like #30 or something so I don't know what I'm talking about at all lol

Just my 2 cents, she does not look like 100% pit to me at all. If I was seeing her on the street, she would not strike me a full pit, any type of pit, but mixed with something else too.

Beautiful dog though. Funny I see a bit mastiff/and maybe shepard in the first 2 pics, the 3rd, looks a bit boxer (but the lighting is weird).

I think the ears are what confuses people...they're not cropped for one and stand up like I've seen a lot of boxers do. But her face and body look very pit to me.

Let's start a pool..haha. Vets get it sooo wrong sometimes, but hit the mark at others. See what they say, esp. if they have several vets in the office. I really, truly don't think your pup is 100% pit at all. But would love to hear is I am right or wrong, better yet, to hear what your dog is period.

she looks full pit to me! pits can be big or small depending on the blood lines. working lines like "jeep" are a lot smaller than blood lines like "razors edge" for example. pits range from 40 pounds to 150 pounds. the coloring has nothing to do with what breed he might be, because pits can be any color other than merle.

I definately agree that people are confused because of the ears.

She looks 100% pitbull. I think the recognition problem might be stemming from her size. She's what should be common and normal for a pit bitch, but a lot of people are breeding for size, especially the larger or more macho breeds - grossly oversized Rotties, Labs, pits, etc., have become very common. Also, the popularity of the giant breeds is making everyone else look small.

thanks alot guys..
a few people have said GSD mixed with mastiff...I saw this picture:
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=5252880

but to be honest...that doesn't even look like a GSD mix in the pic either?..although the appearance is somewhat similar to Messina's even if that's the breed it actually is, Messina has the typical snake bat tail without the extra bit of "tuff", the big ass pit cheekbones and head shape, and she's got a wide chest too, which isn't very GSD like...I guess its because of the coloring and ears like you guys have mentioned that people would think that...any comments on whether she might have GSD?

again, thanks alot...I guess this comes with getting a rescue dog...I don't care, but like I said..curiousity killed the cat..

Oh..this might help..its a pic with her alongside her pittie friend :)

I still have no idea, if its pure pitbul or not.

Over here people keep mistaking Staffordshire Terriers as PittBulls, which mean the police then come and the poor owners have to explain that they aren't Pittbulls.

Once of the sweetest dogs I've ever met was a Dobermon cross Rottveiler (the owner don't say what it is until people have petted her incase they run away for no good reason)

Looks like a small Mastiff to me but a shelter would call her a Pit. When you said she came with papers I wondered what the confusion was but then you mentioned rescue it became obvious. As I'm sure you know people not thinking she is a Pit will only make your life easier. Just telling my family we rescued another Pit made them question our sanity because they really aren't dog people.

Messina looks 100% pit bull to me! She looks an awful lot like Buddy (he's an AmStaff). People ask me all the time if Buddy is a Boxer mix, and even my vet put him down as a Boxer/Lab...... but maybe that was because of BSL.....
Anyway, gorgeous fawn/buckskin Pittie girl! I bet she is loads of fun and a real cuddlebutt!! Too bad about the extreme Canada has gone to in BSL. I hope that it will be reversed soon! (BTW.... do you belong to the Pit Bull Forum?)

Gotta Love Those Pitties!!!!!!
