I would find a different breeder. Her Goldens are so far off standard it's not funny. She sounds like she just picked the two cutest breeds out there, especially since she doesn't show. I would get rock solid proof of ALL health tests before even putting down a deposit.

Do you understand why people worry if you go to a responsible breeder or not? Because irresponsible breeders produce dogs that are of poor health and temperment. From my own experience, it is painful to lose an old dog who has lived a good life... but to lose a dog who has barely reached mid-life due to a genetic condition that could have been avoided being passed on with proper testing is a TRADGEDY! Our companions barely live long enough as it is... if you are going to go to a breeder why take the chance of getting a dog that will have a poor temperment and only live half as long as the breed could?!

I think you need to be a bit more analytical in looking for a breeder. What health testing does she do specifically? What tests has she had done on the parents? Ask for copies of the results. If you don't know what this means, I'm sure there are people here that would be more than willing to help you decipher the results.

Why doesn't she show? Showing is a testement that she is taking the time to prove her dogs are the best examples of their breed. That there is a reason, other than them being "cute" that their genes should be passed on.

She appears to have a wonderful photographer.... but does she really have wonderful dogs? To me it is a crime that someone is breeding goldens that are so far from standard. Wonderful pictures, UGLY goldens, imho.

This is more what a golden *should* look like:

i agree with doberkim, although the dogs are cute!

in the pic of the two golden adults and the puppies, the goldens on the ends look completely different

we'll wait till grammy to see this thread and then we can find out if the goldens are to standard

here is the breed standard: http://www.akc.org/breeds/golden_retriever/index.cfm

it doesn't take an expert to see that these dogs are glaringly far from what they should be. i can't give you a full critique of their conformation from just those pictures... but i can tell you there are flaws in head, body, and coat.

Those Goldens look like mixes to me . . . I'd honestly try to find a better breeder, Suzanne. It might cost more to get a nice Cavalier from a truly responsible breeder, but it will be well worth it.

I highly doubt that this breeder has done the extensive heart monitoring that Cavalier breeding stock should have, if she doesn't even bother to show her dogs.

Check her out a little more closely before you put any deposits down. Ask for proof of health testing (testing of the heart in particular. more Cavaliers die of heart problems than anything else - and they often die early) and if she won't show you, RUN the other way.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I just don't want you to get a dog that will have problems. :(

As for what Golden puppies should look like . . . This is Lucy. She's a well-bred pet/borderline show potential pup.

She doesn't even have the most correct head, she should have more stop and a broader, more square head for starters, but can you see the difference in the "quality" between Lucy and that breeder's Golden puppies?

(psst, just so you know, the dog i posted above won best of breed at the national specialty two years in a row (among numerous other conformation wins)... he was also the most titled golden to ever win at the national specialty (he has multiple advanced obedience titles...) he can be found here: http://www.mirasol.org/Yogi.htm)
