i was watching dr phil 2day ( i live in sweden so it prob aired a few weeks ago in the states ) It was a show about ppl who live in chaos.
A young couple with a baby on the way have 3 dogs, none of them house broken ( they were peeing on the walls !! ) and clearly where not trained at all .
dr phils advice was to build a fence and not let them in the house.

What the hell kind of advice is that ??

He should have told ´em to either get rid of the dogs, start taking them for walks , give them metal stimulance and take classes. That was the last time i will ever watch his show.

Welcome to the great Dr Phil and his know it all attitude.

If Dr Phil says I would do the opposite.

Well he probably figured these people had not taken the time as of yet to train the dogs so they probably never would. So if these people insisted on keeping the dogs they needed to be outside. I don't much like Dr. Phil though, he's a know-it-all who doesn't infact know it all.

The answer is quite simple, really. He's not an animal expert or behaviourist. Thats just like going to your dog trainer for family counseling, it makes no sense.

I saw that a while ago...it was on a long time ago here in the US.

I don't agree with what he said. If I were him, I would have directed them to a dog trainer and suggested that they rehome two of the dogs. Obviously they aren't ready to seriously train THREE out of control dogs. They got another one to keep their first company because a shelter told them the first dog would learn from the second...well, they did learn from eachother - they learned to make messes all over.

As far as I can see, these people do not need dogs right now. They probably have their baby right now and the dogs will probably end up neglected in the yard or being euthanized in a shelter.

I remember that episode. The people were nutty and the dogs were completely out of control. Dr. Phil had the fence installed for them because they refused to rehome the dogs. None of them were housetrained and they had a new baby on the way. Not that I'm a huge fan of Phil - I do find some of his advice practical - but I think his main concern was getting the house clean enough for the baby. The carpets were so urine soaked that they needed to be replaced. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't hook them up with a behaviorist though. He's a pretty big animal lover. I can't see him just saying "banish the old babies to the elements to make way for the new"....

if he had fixed them up with a behaviorist i´m pretty sure he would have said so on air. He told the husband that it was his job to traine the dogs but HELLO !! they didnt even bother to get them house broken even though their house was soaked with pee and there were turds just laying around.
anyone who lives like that has issues..

Why don't you write to him and tell him what awful advice THAT was. He should have told them to re-home them. Good grief! I like Dr. Phil's advice a lot of the time as far as children and family issues but this is horrible!

i don't like dr. phil or watch his show other than when i'm bored to tears, and i haven't seen the episode you mentioned, but my guess is that for the time being those people probably had worse things to deal with than 3 out of control dogs.

that doesn't make it right to tell them to build a fence and toss the dogs in the back yard, but if these people truly were living in chaos, they need to start picking up their lives somewhere and this kind of show isn't going to start with the dogs.

maybe you should watch animal planet instead of dr. phil. :D at least on the shows like "animal precinct", "animal cops" and so on the "bad guys" get busted. :D

I think Dr. Phil has come up before.

I don't watch anymore, because he only has freaks as guests on his shows.
The general public, I believe have less severe problems. He makes us (U.S. people) look like degenerates.

As for the dogs, that is just not his priority. He is just trying to make himself look good and cure the people and get good ratings.

His show is all about him coming out on top. Why do you think his wife is always in the audience and now she has her own special shows to ask her questions. And his son has been featured doing interviews and trying to help teenagers. He wants his whole family to be on top, no matter what. And the way they do that is to subject less than fortunate people from terrible backgrounds and make a mockery.

What a waste.

I HATE dr phil. He is an idiot. He belittles people and expects them to take his advice seriously. What kind of logic is that? I mentioned this in another thread before but he told a couple to lock their children in their rooms when they misbehaved. HELLO?! that is against the law. IDIOT

OK Im not a big huge fan of the show BUT I will say this:

If you live in your dogs waste and filth and dont regularly clean it up, you have some serious hygene issues that need to be addressed. I mean whats gonna happen when the kid starts crawling, are they gonna make him crawl in the pee and poo? The VERY least that they can do is paper train the dogs or train them to go outside only.Or put up a gate to where they are confined to a room of their own. And with three dogs and a new baby, they are in for a kick in the teeth when they realize thats just too much of a responsibility. Believe me when I had my daughter, I was working full-time, had no help from the husband whatsoever, and having a dog at that point was just completely out of the question, there was no way I could handle all of that on my own when my hubby lazed around the house all day and did absolutely nothing.

My advice for the couple:
Potty train your dogs, install new carpets, and NEVER allow your dogs to pee or poop inside, thats just disgusting! If necessary rehome one or two of them, and when they are able to handle the responsibility of three dogs and a kid, they can have their three dogs and a kid. One thing I cannot stand is a disobedient dog, and that times 3 plus new born baby is a recipe for disaster.

OMG I dont know how people can live like that what so ever. It shows how they see themselves also if they are willing to live like that. And to bring a baby into the picture, can you imagine if they dont clean up their acts and their home that their child is in for some serious health issues with the pneumonia smell and dog piles all over the house.

Oh no Dr Phil help..........Megan my 2 1/2 year old human child hates the potty. She pees on the floor and then looks at me.......maybe I should put her out in the yard and not let her in.

Maybe that would be better then training!

Those people were hopeless,I saw the show. They have a kid coming that they are not going to be able to handle. I think they needed to rehome the dogs. I wonder what has happened with them,it was on a while ago.
