Well we had our fun day yesterday and it was a success, or so I am told. I never really got a chance to enjoy it or see how many people were there. I was way to busy keeping everything running. Anyways I figured I would share some pictures with you all. There are lots. I will try and remember all the dogs names as well.

Oh, great! I'm glad your event was such a success. Are you going to do it again next year?

The event was just a fun type thing to educate about responsible dog ownership and BSL. Unfortunately we got to educate all the people that didn't need to be educated. Of course those who did didn't come. It was pretty awesome.

BUT...........

The newspaper came and I was talking to the lady that did the article about the event and she was saying that since she put that article in they have been bombarded with emails, phone calls and letters to the editor from ignorant Swift Current residents. The response was not good. They said that these dogs should be killed, shot, banned. That the event was dangerous and people and other animals were going to get hurt etc.

Then the SPCA came and speak and we basically had to kick her off the stage because she said "I don't agree with banning but these dogs should be muzzled when in public so that people, especially those with little dogs and children can feel safe. They then had their own 50/50 at their booth and then left right after their speach (about 4 hours before the event was over). They didn't even announce the winner of their 50/50. The just packed up and left. I am NOT impressed and they will be getting a phone call on Monday.

I hate the SPCA here. They have people running it that don't have a clue. I figured we would try and work with them on this issue but not now. We are thinking about starting our own no kill shelter just because they suck. We are also going to try and get the contract from the city for bylaw enforcement and "dog catcher".

Sorry for rambling but I needed to get some crap of my chest. Thanks for listening lol.

Yeah, I have a soft spot in my heart for Newfoundlands too. We used to have a landseer when I was younger but she stunk LOL. Smelling that one sure did bring back old memories hahaha.

That is so typical of ignorant people. The ones that need it the most, don't come to things like that and don't read. Frustrating.

Oh wow! That would really tick me off. Here, you're doing something and the topic is responsible ownership. Duh....like you're going to let your dogs hurt someone. These people who run SPCA ought to know better. They shouldn't even be in the business of protecting dogs with that attitude. I'm sure if any one of you had a dog that was a biter, you wouldn't bring him to this thing with kids. It's nuts!

I enjoyed seeing all the pictures.

Yeah, I was definately not impressed with the SPCA. The president said that she worked for Toronto Humane Society for 50 years. I don't really understand how with an attitude like that.

Like I said, we wanted to try and work with the SPCA here on this problem but its obviously not going to work when they don't believe in the same things as the rest of us. They would just end up causing more crap than good.

See, here, you don't have to know a bit about animals to work there. You own an animal? Ok good enough you are the manager. Thats the way it works.

I went there a while back to have a look around and I was honestly discusted! The don't let the dogs out in the runs very often, if at all in a day. The runs are paved with BLACK pavement. How nice is that on their feet when it is 35 C. No shelter outside. Their inside runs were covered in feces, smeared up the walls. It stunk so badly that I **** near puked. They, for some reason can't even control ring worm!!!! They have their cat room constantly closed because they can't contain ringworm. These cats are not going out for adoption because they wont let people in there to adopt them. But, they still put cats down because they have been there for there lenght of time. They don't even get a chance for a new home before they put them to sleep. They had two dalmations in there at the same time and when I walked by the one cage one of the workers says to me "we are going to have puppies." I asked her why and here they had put them together while she was in heat! The place horrifies me to be quite honest.

OMG!!! That sounds terrible. Maybe they should be reported to some higher power. That just isn't right. It must be so depressing for you.
