I think we had this question a couple of weeks ago, maybe in the breeding forum? You could probably find it with a search.

Basically the higher-quality dogs are going to be more expensive than the lower-quality dogs. So the most expensive dog would probably be, like, a show-quality puppy from two mega-show winners.

On the other hand, the most expensive dog could be the one that comes from an irresponsible breeder and has serious health problems.

Or one that belongs to an irresponsible owner who allows it to wreak havoc and is sued for it.

Designer breeds. Thats the answer right there.

If you are talking about a breed that is bred by an actual RESPONSIBLE breeder, then I would say a very high quality show dog brought into this world by a c-section. Buyers usually have to cover that cost when they purchase the puppy, plus the pup itself. My guess anyway!

Honestly?

The dog that someone is willing to pay the most money for.

IMO there is no "most expensive" as money paid for doesn't equal quality.

A finished show or field dog will cost you some serious bucks.

As for puppies, Bulldogs cost a bomb. As do unsual breeds and crossbreeds (designer dogs like Doodles).

Last I heard, if you only count actual breeds, and are talking about purchase price, not life-time price, Tibetian Mastiffs were on top. I read that in an article somewhere, but I can't remember where.

Dang it.... you beat me to the punch!

Athena (bless her heart) was from a very dubious breeding program that I am sure wasn't health screening or anything else that was positive. I got her after her pregnant mother was seized by authorities. I could have bought her for half or a third of what I paid for Sal (from a good breeder) and yet she has cost me 5 times what Sal has cost me in medical bills.

Luckily Athena's problems have been only physical and temperament wise she has been a gem.

The cost of the dog is not only just the purchase price.......

Are you kidding me??? They're making their animals out to sound like washing machines... "Titan Ultra, cleans in just one cycle while the teeth prevent the dryer from eating your socks!"

OMFG. I am beyond words. WHO KNEW! Someone needs to inform DanL that his dog is worth 65k, AND if he pretends he's hypoallergenic he can up the price by 20k.

The cats, though.... they make me see red. THEY DO NOT LOOK LIKE MINIATURE LEOPARDS. Please LOOK at an actual photograph or two of a REAL LEOPARD instead of that drawing that someone pointed out to you that they said could be a leopard that was actually their cousin's neighbor's kid's drawing of Molly, their tabby cat. They're beautiful cats, some of them, don't get me wrong, but they aren't mini leopards. And charing 65k for a ZOMG GREY KITTY ("IT LOOKS SILVER!") and 125k for an orange kitty (OMG! It looks like a smoothie! How cuuuuuuuuuuuuute!" - cause you KNOW there aren't thousands of them in shelters every year, and thousands more in body bags) because if it's a pretty color it makes the cat worth of breeding! Dur! I wish I knew this, because I could have bred Emma and Chili instead of forking out $300 for a botched spay! My neighbors had a really pretty pointed-and-white male with blue eyes, I bet they would have made *squee* pretty kittens! And just think, if I bred an orange male to Chili there would be lots of OMG ORANGE KITTENZ I can sell for 65k if I think they look like leopards!

Oh, but wait, I was wrong. Color isn't the basis of their breeding program. They actually have some integrity. (Not.) THEIR CATS ARE HYBRIDS! Bengal x Serval hyrids! And since they have *some* domestic cat in them, they are being marketed as EXACTLY like domestic cats, and, you know, no extra work yallz! *brain implodes*

I'm pretty sure this is the company I linked to ages ago because I thought it was a cool concept - breeding hypoallergenic cats for people with allergies. But I've changed my mind, because we still have far too much of an overpopulation problem in cats to justify breeding them unless they are excellent specimens of their breed. What's that, folks? Their breed? "You mean it's *not* okay to breed hybrids with no real standard or members of an actual breed that you didn't make up after wanting a Honda?" *facepalm* "But they're so preeeeeeetyy... and hypoallergeniccccccc..... and it makes me moneeeyyyyyyyy...."

yeah and the mandatory spaying/neutering would seem a great idea until you realize they just don't want other people to breed them and make their money...LOL.

I think you've found the most expensive dogs! Anyone stupid enough to fall for such a scam deserves to be out $100,000 bucks! But seriously this couldn't be for real? Just look at their FAQs. $15,000 for some sort of a "Jabari" which no responsible breeder has ever heard of and yet their own FAQs say they have no plans to breed hypoallergenic dogs yet due to the supposed number of allergy causing proteins. Gee...they must be making scientific breakthroughs so fast their webmaster can't keep up. But WAIT...what exactly IS the science and why aren't buyers allowed to visit them in person before they buy? Probably because one could do just well at the local humane society for less than $100.

I was watching cribs on MTV a long time ago. I dont remember who exactly it was, but a celeb bought a trained GSD for 80 grand. I just dont understand why someone would pay that kind of money for a DOG and not feel ripped off.
