I just got an email, and I too thought it was a joke at first. Then I went to a news site and my worst fears comfirmed...This is horrible! I cant believe it! I have tears for someone I've never met, but he has made a difference in so many human and animal lives alike. I Tivo his show everyday at 6 on APlanet. I feel horrible...its definitly not a hoax..this is from his website...

Media statement – 4 September 2006

Steve Irwin

At 11am today, the 4th September 2006, Steve Irwin was fatally wounded by a stingray barb to his heart whilst filming a sequence on Batt Reef off Port Douglas for his daughter’s new TV series.
Emergency services were called from Cairns Rescue Base and met Croc One, Steve’s rescue vessel at Low Isle on the Great Barrier Reef.
The Croc One crew performed constant CPR during the thirty minute dash to Low Isle, but the medical staff pronounced Steve dead at approx. 12 noon.

His producer and closest friend, John Stainton said on Croc One today,
“The world has lost a great wildlife icon, a passionate conservationist and one of the proudest Dads on the planet. He died doing what he loves best and left this world in a happy and peaceful state of mind. Crocs Rule!”
I feel so bad for Bindi,Terri, and the little boy Bob wont ever get to really know his dad... :(

Cant belive it, his poor family

me and my brothers were a huge fan,

his passion and love of animals and his conservation work will never be beat

he was one in a million.

He deserves to be recognised fully for all the work and education he has done

I know it's not the same scenerio, it's totally different in everyway... but I feel the same way I felt when I heard princess diana died. The disbelief feeling that it's true. It kind of just doesn't seem real to me. It's so terribly sad, such a tragedy.:(

Probably because there's the whole 'where were you?' mentallity going on when something colossal happens - it was emphasized during 9/11 and I mentioned in this particular situation.

RIP Mate. You were a living legend, a global icon, a voice for those without voices, and you've left behind shoes that will never be filled. My heart aches for the millions of people who mourn your loss. You were a fire extinquished too soon. May your legacy live on in the lessons you've taught. RIP :(

he died near where i live and if any 1 doesnt know he got a sting ray barb in his chest and it peirced his heart
I haven't seen such an out pouring of grief since Princess Diana died.....Have you seen the flower tributes paid to him. And the poor little school kids who looked up to him and idolised him....... I heard on the news that they are offering counselling to all the primary school children.....This is all so tragically sad. I just hope the outpouring of love for Steve shown by the floral tributes is some comfort to his wife and children.
