Well its offically happened!

Spider has been bred to BISS Multi Group Winner Ch. Nimbus 03 von boylan. This stud was always a huge possibility, and now that I have moved in with his handler, and have seen his day to day personailty, I was sold.

She was bred thru AI on 4/17 and 4/18. I am just so excited I almost cant contain myself! We will know in 28 days if we have any puppers!

:D

Congrats and all good luck for healthy puppies and safe whelping.

Nimbus is a nice dog. We beat him for Breed once. ;)

Congrats, Ryan, I know you've looked forward to this for some time! Just curious, though, what are the OFAs on both mom and pop? I see ratings of fair and normal, but what does this mean in terms of the breeding and the pups? What about CHIC registration and elbows? I don't see any of that info on your site. :)

Spider passed OFA with a fair on hips, DJD1 in both elbows, passed cardiac and eyes. Elbows in Rottweilers are a problem, but a DJD1 does not bother me, nor many breeders I am sure. The stud is good on hips and cardio and I beleive his elbows are fine. Might be a DJD1, if they are anything at all.

I dont forsee any issues with the puppies or the breeding. It should be very nice and hopefully will be a good merge of both great quailties in both the dogs.

CHIC status says nothing except that the particular dog has had all tests that are common for the breed. The dog could fail every test and still get a CHIC number. It was put in place to encourage people to do more than just hips and eyes in breeds where there is a large number of health tests offered/preferred.

After talking to Redeye, Spider could infact get her CHIC #. I was under the impression that you had to pass all the tests in order to get one. The only thing Spider didnt pass of the CHIC # is elbows.

I will be releasing her elbow status to the OFA in the near future and thus, to answer your question BB, getting her CHIC #

I must have misunderstood the RHF's statement that all dogs with CHIC have passed health clearances in Hips, (OFA and PennHip), Elbows (OFA), Hearts (OFA) and Eyes (CERF). My bad.

the CHIC program is designed to encourage breeders to TEST AND TELL.

The American Rottweiler Club has determined that the testing most important to the future of our breed is hips, elbows, eyes, and heart.

A CHIC number has nothing at all to do with suitability for breeding. It has EVERYTHING to do with breeders and owners who have care and concern for the future of the breed.

Passing or not, having health information posted in a searchable data base helps others breed better dogs by being able to do detailed pedigree research on health related issues.

GOOD FOR YOU, Sunnierhawk, for releasing the elbow results on your girl and getting her CHIC number. You will gain nothing but respect from your peers by stepping up to the plate and putting her info out there publicly.

Another thing to consider is making a CHIC# a contractual requirement of your puppy buyers. Just imagine how much further ahead we would be if the majority of dogs had information in the data base on hip elbow eye and heart status. Imagine how much better you can steer your own breeding program if you know the status of the big 4 on ALL puppies that your bitch produces!

:)
