I really am tired of people being jumped on for the food they feed - lets face it, not everything is going to feed Innova or California Natural.

food is just personal choice.....always good to learn, but still a personal choice. I think most people are fine with that :)

I cant convince my husband to let me buy the better stuff. He looks at the price and thats the end of that! The nearest pet store is a hour away and I cant drive in that city. So I dont go unless he's with me. So I dont have much choice in what kind of dog food I use.

I don't tink people should be jumped on for what they feed there dog/s. B/c some people might not be able to buy the best dog food, or some people might think that there is another dog food that fits there dog better. Not all dogs can be fed the same dog food. So why is everyone making a big deal out of it? Feed your dog/s what YOU think they should be fed, not what other people think you should feed them, yea you need to see if its healthy and all, but don't get a ll wee-nee on what people tell you to feed your dog/s.

Fran,
I was lucky with Gracie. We stay up late so last thing I did before going to bed was potty her. My husband would get up early morning and he'd potty her. That just doesnt work for everyone.
Honestly, if I ever was to get a small dog (which is doubtful) I think I might use a crate.

Honestly, I think that as long as the dog is healthy, it doesn't really matter. It's like people, some of us will digest some stuff more or less well, or get sick when they eat something else. If your dog is too skinny no matter how much he eats and that his coat isn't shiny, by all mean, change their food.

I keep thinking that for dogs when you see the crap they eat outside, it can't be worse, lol. Seriously though, the only thing that really irks me is people claiming that their food is good when it's really not that great overall. It just comes up to people being misinformed, as usual. But food made from real meat will always be better than cereals and lots of the crap that some foods use nowadays. But when it comes to dogs, it doesn't mean it's not 'overdoing' it (like I am 100% convinced that feeding organic is often overdoing it for humans).

Manchesters, I'm surprised that you think that pedigree is ok and science diet is crap though, I've always thought that SD was better...

If you like crates, so be it. I provided a valid point for the reason I don't like crates and that I won't use them--

Even after Mrs. I-have-30-years-of-experience-that-owns-any experience- you-have, gave an oh-so mature remark about if I don't crate my dogs then I shouldn't have a toddler in the house, when about 5 other dog owners came and backed me up.

After the point I made, she didn't even bother to respond. I don't care, I feel I've done good for my dog-- I may not win a best dog-owner of the year award but I'm not terrible either.

Everybody has their own ideas we don't need to shove ours down each others throat.

I also am getting tired of the food deal, no I will not give my dog up because I feed Natural Choice. It's the only decent food I can actually acquire/afford.

So there. My 2 cents.

My Mom and I met a dane in February at PetSmart. She had a very nice, soft coat. The owner was feeding her Purina food and already prepared raw food. I personally do go for higher-end brands, but I don't feed Innova. I feel as if a lot of people here view it as, you should feed Innova or Eaglepack period.

I don't think you should use a crate if you don't want to, but I'm sick of people acting as if because I crate my dogs I'm a vicious beast.

Your welcome BigDog. And Gaddy your not a vicious beast, I think you are great! I don't see a real problem w/ crating your dog/s. I know what i said earlier in the post but really its not to bad to crate your dogs, I mean they're your dogs and don't let anyone tell you what to do w/ them.

I agree that some people HAVE to crate their dogs....it depends on the breed, the house situation etc etc. That's why I trained my puppies to accept a crate before they went to their homes. I've never needed one .

Crating is just another personal choice. Again...I don't think ALL people think a thing about whether you do it or not. I don't...doesn't make a difference to me if someone thinks that's bad. I also have always had both my dogs together...even when alone, and it's never been an issue. Sure...something COULD happen.....and I could also get hit by lightening today (yeah..more storms coming) I think they would be sad to be separated...it would deny them their play time. We've not experienced any big scuffles..Addie is just too secure in the 'boss' role. I've read material written with the negatives, but this is what works for me. Maybe it depends on the dogs, or the breeds involved. Maybe it's just like some people......sometimes you can't leave 2 siblings alone without fighting. LOL The forum is for discussing views, ideas, sharing experiences, asking questions.......but not to 'cram' beliefs down someone's throat. You always take in the information, then apply it to your particular situation......without getting upset with a couple folks that are just a little more passionate about the subject. That's their right, too.

My opinion of Science Diet is based on what it has done to the dogs over the years. Now, bear in mind I am talking about S.D. DRY food. It burns out the kidneys on dogs if fed long term. And a Dobe breeder of great repute knew one of the vets who was on the team that developed S.D. He told her the stuff was crap and made her promise not to feed it to his favorite Dobe of hers, lol. He said that his association with S.D. Was the greatest embarrassment of his life, lol.

I and many others know of instances where dogs fed the stuff ended up in kidney failure at a very young age. Don't know if there was too much protein, or just poor quality protein. We are talking back around 1976, mind ya! I can't remember anything from just two days ago!

I've gotten jumped on before because my dogs are crated. I don't really care if people don't like that I crate my dogs - my dogs like that I crate them, that's all that matters to me.

Speaking of heat earlier, I keep looking out the window to see how the next door pit is doing. I wish I dared to go over and freshen her water. When I got my mail, the metal practically burned me. I know her huge chain must me so hot.....and the dog house. Makes me so sad !!!
