Sports Illustrated is doing a follow up story on the Michael Vick dogs and, after several weeks of interviews, will be featuring them on the cover! The issue comes out Christmas Eve.

The best part is that, since the magazine will go on vacation, this is the only issue of the year that runs for 2 weeks straight. That means a pit bull will be on the cover, in a positive light, on a national magazine, for two whole weeks :D

Check it out (it's so holiday-like!):

and a link to the online article: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/magazine/12/22/vick.dogs/

I think it helped that a bunch of the folks that they interviewed gave them chocolate for this atrocious cover they ran back in the '80s:

Yep, times have changed :p

Finally a *GOOD* article that wont get swept away in a day! AND to show that these dogs are great dogs even after being bred and raised the way they were

I read the article. Wow. Seriously, WOW. I've never, EVER seen a major article that blatently says that pit bulls are one of the most non-human-aggressive breeds out there.

It's wonderful. A big kudos goes out to Sports Illustrated.

This is great! I love the cover, SO much nicer than the one from a few decades ago!

I'll have to pick up a copy, I obviously don't have a subscription. ;)

btw I cant stop looking at that picture it reminds me soooooooooooo much of Booger

Booger

Every time I see a photo of him - especially the one in your sig - I have to stop and look. Booger could be Tallulah's sister.

This is a good thing SI is doing. I might even have to buy a copy!

That was one of the best pro-pitty articles I've read out of a national publication--go SI!

So much good came from so much bad. Wonderful that some real dog people had the say in that article. Now, if only these ignorant government people who make the laws would stop meddling in business they know nothing about.....I hope there will be more information put out that changes the minds of the public that it's not the breed, but how they're handled. Poor dogs.

Isn't that in the job description for a person that makes laws?

But seriously, that was a great article. It's about time they get some positive press. i'm going to buy 2 in addition to our subscription to put in our office for people to read. People know i'm a dog person and we talk dogs a lot. I always have lots of 'splainin to do about pit bulls too it seems. Even to my own family that was once appalled I was training German Shepherds to be "attack" dogs. They were so afraid, no my biggest worry is that they'll kidnap my dogs they love them so much. It's a tough battle, but a worthy one. They always are. Kudos to SI

And here is some of the pictures of the Vick dogs with their parents and foster parents:
http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/gallery/featured/GAL1150032/1/10/index.htm

It's amazing that some of these dogs can play with other dogs and they even have one living with a cat!
Those pictures are great!

Btw, Uba may live with a cat, but any one other than that is fair game (though he learned that from his adoptive sister, he doesn't have huge prey drive).

I still can't get over this coup! It's truly a Christmas miracle. I'm about to head on vacation with my bf's family for 2 weeks. They're 75% sold on pit bulls so I'm gonna pick up a copy of the magazine for them to read to make it 100%!

It is funny how they still left the leash on the dog. It just takes away from the picture. What are they afraid of, that the dog will jump and bite the camera guy? Pit bulls are just one misunderstood breed. They are bred for one thing, and that is to protect their family. Too bad they are banned in so many places.
