OK, I got the wrong idea and thought it was the daycare center kids, and that they were pretty little. It gets my back up a little to be informed about the seriousness of a *show dog* losing all coat, as if the main problem isn't the comfort and happiness of a bald dog, but the pressing need to accumulate points toward a championship. Perhaps that was also a misreading. In any case, I hope your dog is okay and you and he are spared a costly vet visit.
accumulating points toward a championship...........is NOT important when you have a show dog?????? losing all coat.....NOT important? maybe you don't see the importance of this, but I do. geez, Riot....does this not freak you out? I AM freaked out. YES...let's only hope she doesn't have vet bills.

What is your problem?!
Do you not think that I am more then over protective about my dogs health?! Why the hell do you think i yelled at those kids in the first place?! BECAUSE HE LOOSES FUR WHEN HES FED WHEAT BECAUSE OF HIS ALLERGIES.
Would Allergies be consistant with "health"?!
Yes he is a show dog, which means he has TWO things to be careful with. Even if he wasn't a show dog - do you think I'd be content with him loosing his hair from someone elses "mistakes"? Umm no.

Anyways, Riot has actually started to shed some hair from the tip of his nose so he will more then likely be going to the vet tomorrow if it keeps up.

*soo frustrated*

That's awful! I hope Riot didn't get too much of the bread. Before I moved, the neighbours' kids and their parents were constantly throwing food over to our dogs. They wouldn't stop no matter how many times we asked them to...luckily none of my dogs have allergies though.

You make it sound like you think she is just worried about showing her dog and thats it. Its just in the way you say *showdog* from what I can tell her dog is not just some average showdog and I beleive in his in search and rescue and police dog training. If I knew one of my dogs allergies would cause them to loose hair was would be extremely concerned too it has to be uncomfortable. All i know is Riot means the world to her and thats why she was upset first and formost. Not just because her showdog wouldn't be show quality for awhile.

Just my opinion though. Im just a bit  .

Pixie you hit it right on the nose!!

Riot isn't just another dog to me - hes my world. hes the one thing that has kept me happy after loosing my horse. I'm sure many people on here can resemble that feeling with their dogs.
Ri isn't just a "show dog" to me. Hes my baby.

At this stage of your reply, what makes you think I still care whether you're going to the vet or not? If you curse at people and demand what their problem is when they've *apologized* to you, you're being ridiculous and rude.

If in future you want people to understand your first priority is your dog's health, you might want to mention it specifically. Not everyone on this forum knows you, and what you write in any post is what most people will judge you on. I initially assumed you were worried about your dog's health, but after the third post mentioning how detrimental it was to his show career to lose his coat, it seemed a little less obvious.

I figured that people would assume that seeing as it was an allergy of his, they would understand that his health would be #1??

and I never saw any apology that wasn't sarcastic in my eyes.. i'm sorry if it wasn't meant in sarcasm.

And.. just so you know, not ever post is directed towards just you.
The last part about him going to the vet would be directed for people who cared along with me of Riots health.

I initially assumed you were worried about your dog's health, but after the third post mentioning how detrimental it was to his show career to lose his coat, it seemed a little less obvious.
I stated that because it is as well a factor. Having a dog loose its show coat right before the "big show season" is not the greatest. He was supposed to start his CKC shows this season and hopefully finish his CH title so it wouldn't have to be a long drawn out process.

I guess I will step in here, true there are alot of childish young kids around.
But you are very mistaken about SummerRiot.
She has held a remarkable high standard of behavior.
She is very intelligent and has shown great maturity with the way she is handling Riot and everything she is training him for.

If anyone here is not holding a remarkable high standard of behavior.............It certainly is not her. ;)

edit: Actually there are not "alot" of childish young kids around HERE. Most around here are actually very knowledgable and mature. And they are a great deal less than 21, more like 13-17 years old.

good grief...Casablanca...I am sorry Riot for your dog's discomfort..for any loss on the circuit, showing a dog is timely and costly, and is always on a schedule..a lot of investment sigh........maybe some people "just don't KNOW that..." and if it makes his hair fall out, it probably makes him feel ill as well. That would just be a given. WE ALL KNOW how much you love riot and i for one don't think that either concern his health, OR HIS SCHEDULE is a trite concern. Both are of importance and you have every right to be upset.

My mom and i had this conversation the other day. We heard of a child care in the home worker that would shower while her charges were in the house and felt the person being discussed was a very "relaxed" babysitter. I cant imagine ever putting myself in a place where i wouldn't know what the children i am caring for are doing. Feeding the neighbor's dog bread gives me a pretty good idea that the person on charge was not awares of her charges behavior and that is simply a good thing at all. What if the next step was to "tease" with food. I would post a sign DO NOT FEED THE DOG OR INTERACT IN ANYWAY or something to that effect to let her and the children know where you stand. It is a dangerous thing they were doing.

Thank you very much Julie and Smkie!

and omg Casablanca1.. I haven't heard that one in a LONG time.. and I'm 22 not 21..

Wow.. so I never knew that a young adult was still classed as a "child" hmm

I must bring that up with my profs and let them know that they are dealing with children still.

I also noticed in your profile you neglected to say your age, yet you stated that you grew up with the stretchy pants with elastic around the foot. I too had those when I was little so you must not be that far off my age.

I totally understand what it's like to have something go "wrong" with a show dog - schedules are VERY important. I have a show dog who doesn't like to eat. He'll go through periods where he'll eat, then swing back to being practically anorexic... we have a show in less than two weeks, and my boy has swung into one of his "not-eating" phases... bad bad BAD!

Summer, do you have a show or two coming up? If not, maybe you'll have time to get his coat back... I dont' know... I feel for ya!

I'm pretty sure they're already well aware of that.

I'm 31. The older you get, the more you realize how much you change and how much it has to do with age, not any intrinsic specialness of your individual self. Girls in their early 20's are all pretty much like you (and, probably, women in their early 30s are pretty much all like me, but I'm not old enough to realize that yet.)

OffTopic - Sizzledog ... I love your signature!

OnTopic - This is how I see this issue.... (pardon me for the length)

I consider Show dogs as fulfilling a purpose - they have a job. They are trained to do their job well, and to make their owners happy. This can be just as important as Agility, Weight Pulling, Obedience... etc. Especially since a lot of Show dogs also do another activity besides just being show dogs. I think I remember that Riot is also training for Search & Rescue (S&R), and what else SummerRiot? Weren't you also looking into Agility since you didn't want to try Shutzhund with him because of what it could do for his temperment?

So Riot has a job.. he's a show dog, and show dogs not only have to LOOK their best, they have to FEEL their best. If he loses his fur, then I doubt he's feeling very good inside.

I know when Mojo was covered in black heads, he definately didn't act like he was feeling like he was 100% okay. He was careful about where his feet went, and he was pretty itchy. Once the allergic reaction cleared up, he became the bouncy happy dog I have today (except when his hips are bothering him).

But also by Riot losing his fur he loses his job. He won't be able to go do what he's being trained to do - not showing, not S&R, not agility. He won't be the working dog that he's meant to be.

Also SummerRiot will have to take more care when he's outside, possibly even limiting his access to the outside. Because if he goes completely hairless that means no protection against the sun, the insects or the heat. I can't even imagine what that would be like for a dog with Riot's drive to do something.

So, I do see this as a terrible calamity for SummerRiot and Riot.

I also still believe that notes should go around to people, and then a follow up visit with Riot (especially if he does continue to lose his hair) to drive the point home. The children were at fault, and thus the grandparents are at fault for not keeping watch over their children.

But I'm rambling...
