Hi! I have a Silkshire Terrier, and I thought I'd share some pictures of her here for people who've never seen one. Her mom was an AKC registered Silky Terrier, and her dad was an AKC registered Yorkshire Terrier. She's registered with NAMBR (North American Mixed Breed Registry). She's just the cutest thing, and I love her to death! :)

Cute dog but for the record, that registry isn''t a "real registry" it''s just a way fro people breeding disgner mutts to get their pups papers so they can seem more important. It garuntees nothing on health or sturdiness of temperment or really anything...I don''t even know wht the point of it is LOL

http://www.freewebs.com/puppylover92/moms.htm

We breed Silkshires to give owners the small size of the Yorkie, and the sturdiness of a Silky Terrier. (Makes an awesome alternative to a Yorkie for a home with small kids! They won't get hurt like a Yorkie can while wrestling with the kids, but are still tiny for the appartment dwellers!) They have the sweetest dispositions, and are sooo smart! Just read our comments! Although I've only had 2 litters of Silkshires, they have all had great turn-outs!!! :)
In no way is she or her family a byb. ;)

I have a problem seeing a 5 lb dog as sturdy enough for rough housing no matter what the breed.

She's a byb for the simple fact that she mixes breeds. Sorry, but it's the cold, hard truth.

Your pup is cute, but is nothing more than a mixed breed.

EDIT:: If you are 14 and planning on breeding you better do some serious reading/studying and get a darn good understanding that what you will be doing is creating mixed breeds and you will be considered a BYB.

Keep in mind the OP is young. Being harsh will only drive her away from this forum...like we've done so many times in the past. :/

May I ask what's the point of mixing these two breeds together? Australian Terriers are not much better with children than Yorkies, and niether breeds have serious health issues that crossing will fix.

Also, what will you do if your dogs don't mature to be breeding worthy, either in temperment or standards?

Love your sweet looking mixed breed dog to death !!!! It's not your fault the breeder decided to experiment in making a new cur !! Many here have bought from BYBs, pet shops , on line etc. They love their dogs and have learned a lot here . Many have learned not to call their dogs by designer names ( thus many $$$$$$$$$s more than they're worth ) They are mixes. I just adopted a Golden/Chesapeake mix .....he was advertised on petfinder as a Goldenoodle ! I guess I could call him a Goldeeeeeeeeeeeek !!! He's just my now beloved mutt !

Your doggy is adorable. :) She is a mutt, though. I'm not saying that's bad, I've ALWAYS had mutts, not purebreds, but I just want to explain that breeding a Silky Terrier with a Yorkie doesn't create a new "breed."

The reason most people here don't like the so-called "designer breeds" like "yorkie-poos" and such isn't because they don't like mutts, but because they feel it's irresponsible to purposely breed mutts when so many are dying in animal shelters every day. :( Also, most backyard breeders don't do any health checks on the parents. Frankly, I'm shaking my head at this woman saying a tiny dog like this would be able to rough house and wrestle with the kids. Small dogs are fragile and can break bones easily!

PLEASE have your dog spayed (if she isn't already) when she's old enough, you'll both be happier in the long run. ;)

We basically registered her there so we could compete in 'shows' with her like you could with a full-bred.

We actually were going to breed her (after she was OFA and CERF tested), but we think we're going to get her spayed. ;)

We originally were informed (by a horrible BYB) That Yorkies, and Silkies were the same breed.... After breeding our Silky with her Yorkie (for pick of the litter:rolleyes: ) we realized that the AKC would not register them, and also realized that she was a LIAR. So, we kept one of the females to breed (and now realize she's a Silkshire, not a Silky....). But, we're getting her spayed, and we love her to death. :)

Hi and welcome to the forum! Your baby girl is very cute and please try to excuse some of us who just try to stick up for the resposible breeders of dogs due to our love of them. I'm glad you decided to spay your little girl. She will be much happier and healthier for years to come. Please understand that your dog is not "Purebred" even though the two breeds are similar. Breeding her will not better either of the breeds it will just make more "designer dogs" or mixed breeds with cutesy names. Good luck with her and please post more pictures :) !

Actually, we are not breeding the "silkshires", but thanks anyway.....
