I think it's soooo sad. I don't pay too much attention to shows but even just at the dog park, I see a lot of overweight dogs. In Petsmart the other day, there was a grossly overweight Chi. The owner clearly loved the dog and was doting over him, but giving him love with food. It's quite sad to know that dog will probably live a shorter lifespan. He probably was 8lbs overweight, and that's a lot for a Chi.
I see quite a few chunky Yorkies too. Like a lot of the bigger Yorkies who are naturally bigger but they are chubby too. Jackson is a BIG Yorkie for example but he's lean and not chubby. I met one at the dog park who was probably 20lbs and should have been, like, 12lbs. The owner did not even notice until she saw her next to Jackson and my friends Yorkies. She was like 'oh wow!' haha.
He's always looked perfect to me. My dad often says he's too skinny but I think he's just right. Most people always comment on how sharp looking of a terrier he is. Even my grandma who came into town commented on his body condition, she only sees us once a year.
Here he is from above. If he were any skinnier, I wouldn't like it. I can't even imagine fattening him up simply because someone, or a certain organization, or whatever, claimed he needed to be to win awards.
