Jazz's litter was done at 2 days old. The only time I have ever heard of them docking a older dog was when they get the ears done if their tails are too lon for the show ring.
Who the hell are you to imply that Dobiegurl should not have docked her pup's tail.
For all you know she might want to show it sometime since it's a purebred.
Tail docking and abuse are MUCH different.
Maybe she wanted to compete in Shutzhund or another sport and wanted to have it's tail done for that?
At least she took it to the vet, its no like she took a butcher's knife and cut it off.
Did you notice how they started screeming BEFORE you docked their tails? Right after they left mom in fact. The squirmed when they were held down BEFORE they docked their tails. Not to mention they quiet right down once they are back with mom.
When I worked for a vet, we did some tail amputations - but only for health reasons, not to feed some person's vanity.
We did dock tails on 3-4 day old pups too. Even on those pups, they showed signs of pain (squealing, whimpering, squirming to get away). But at least they healed very quickly.
Tail docking on an older puppy is much worse. Regardless of how quickly they may SEEM to bounce back, there is a level of pain there. You can't cut through muscles and tendons and take off sections of bone without pain. In addition, many of these types of surgeries are hard to keep clean and many become infected. To do that to something you supposedly are going to LOVE just escapes me. Where's the love when you feel you have to change the look to fit your own idea of "perfect"? That's not love. That's vanity.
When a person's dog gets old and isn't so pretty, will they just get rid of it because it doesn't look like what they think it should look like? Let's say it loses an ear or a leg .. is that dog no longer loved because it's not aesthetically pleasing anymore? I just can't understand the concept of having to put your dog through surgery or taking off pieces for non-health reasons just because you want your dog to look different
