If she wants to say her dog is a Shar Pei, I'd just say "Whatever" and keep my distance. At this point, I don't think it really matters what type of dog it really is, just that she doesn't seem to be the type to be able to handle any sort of big dog. Honestly, whether it's a Shar Pei, Neo or anything like those, beating it with a newspaper is going to get either her or her daughter severly hurt one of these days.

Pictures would really help as well.

I've looked at the Shar Pei's and Neopolitan Mastiffs pictured on AKC -

Her dog has less wrinkles, like the Shar Pei...but the body of the Neo. Since it's a mix, I guess it's possible (maybe) that these two breeds hooked up and made her dog. I don't know. This is the same woman that has recently called everyone (involved in calling the cops for egging my hubby's company truck) a liar. She wasn't even there? Either way...combine those 2 and I think we got her dog.

I don't see a problem with the woman claiming her dog as a shar-pei or mastiff or whatever mix?

Is it causing problems? Aggressive at all? If not, then I would let all be. If a neighbor had the nerve to come up and tell me that she didn't think Buddy was part ______ I'd tell her to go fly a kite. :D JMO...

No need to start anything when there's no real issue at hand. Now, if there is a bigger problem, I would address that, and not the questionable breed of said dog! :)

LOL @ BP. If you lived here, you'd want to tell off alot of people about things that they were "misinformed" about. It's like living in the middle of a stupid bubble.
She told me today that her "shar pei" is registered (didn't say with which club), that he'd won ribbons (in what? I don't know) and that he's full blooded chinese shar pei. Her reasoning for why he's so big. He was rescued (Yay for her and the pup :) ) and was sickly and thin so she overfed him and muscled him up so now he weighs 165+ lbs (approximately 100 lbs over breed standard). I am glad he was rescued....that much I can say is positive.

However........................she BRED her GSD/Chow mix with this supposed Shar Pei!!! Her GSD/Chow is only 8 (yes EIGHT) months old! A puppy having puppies. She says the female was "raped" by the Shar Pei. Sounds like 'mom' wasn't watching her pups and didn't have the common sense to spay the female. She's gonna sell them for $20 (not bad I suppose) but never mentioned spaying afterwards. She fully expects to be sitting on the floor with her GSD/Chow and making her take care of the pups since she's so young and probably won't understand what's going on.
 This is why I don't like the people around here that own animals.

Oh Dear God.... no wait, she should thank God that I am not near her...
I'd do more than tell her to fly a kite!

People, ugh *shakes head*

We have many uhh, "misinformed" people here too.. they are allll over the place, I pick and chose my battles carefully though.

If I were in your shoes, I would try to help educate her... but watch your steps veeerrry carefully. She doesn't sound like the sharpest knife in the block if ya know what I mean, but with your knowledge and support system here, you may just help her out! GL!

I will. I don't usually see her and just met her a few days ago. I still don't know her name, she never told me and I never asked. I do know where they live and will hear about the pups when they are born. What in the world can you do with pups with that kind of mixed parentage? The people around here don't need to have these dogs...even the one's that already have some. I'd hate to buy all of them from her only to have them end up in the shelter cause we definitely can't afford to keep any more dogs right now. I don't think anyone around here is even going to want these pups. They aren't purebred. They aren't even designer dogs. I don't see them having a good future around here in this town. :(

:( Those poor puppies (including the mum). Perhaps you could remain friendly with her and when the pups are born, and she has a problem placing them in homes, you could help her find people (responsible people) to take them?
Guide her to do the right thing for the pups?
Maybe suggest that the money from the sale of the pups could go towards the spaying of their mother?

I don't know how involved you can get, but even a little bit of help would probably give the pups a good chance of finding decent homes.

Cass.

I'll try to dig up that class picture. His name is pepper and he looks like a cartoon character next to the other "normal sized" boston in class...(Baby Huey):D . His mama sure did love him, good thing too cause boy was he full of p!ss and vinegar.;)
Keep in mind that according to the breed standard there are two distinct sizes of bostons. The little squeakers which most people are used to seeing and the larger size. They are normally shown separately in akc events. Neither will be as big as you're saying but I can easily see the larger size dog throwing a pup that looks at least small english bulldog.

Just what I was thinking, Zoom. Those are definitely two breeds you don't want to pull stunts like that with.

There is only ONE Shar Pei and it is the Chinese Shar Pei. A male Pei can weigh up to 70 lbs, but usually they are in the 55-65 lb range at the most. Females usually weigh between 45-55 lbs.

As for your neighbor, it's like my old neighbor who had a 135 lb American Pit Bull Terrier. Umm...no you didn't and no it's not. ;)

Just saw the breeding post. Unbelievable.

I hope she realizes that she most likely will end up with a bunch of puppies than turn into dominant dogs that will run amuck on society unless they get knowledgeable and educated and firm owners.......which I'm sure that Santa Claus will probably get a pup firt.
