I don't think anybody is arguing over Filas right to be mad. I totally understand where she is coming from and although her original post kind of rubbed me the wrong way, that isn't what my later posts were about.. we all say things like that when we are angry. Her dog was sick and being bullied

the only thing that really got my all "WTF?!" was the fact that my dog was said to be exactly like a rodent other than size and shape and other similar comments/attitudes stemming from comments like that NOT FILA OR HER ORIGINAL POST
It has been said quite a few times by quite a few people that FILAS ORIGINAL POST IS NOT WHAT PEOPLE ARE ARGUING ABOUT

its a general attitude about generalizing. the same attitude that is the VERY REASON why poodles aren't torn apart on the news and why pitbulls are.. I am trying to make a point of how CONNECTED that fact is.

Aka: by generalizing certain breeds, you are creating a monster that spreads far wider than just that breed. you are making it OK for pitbulls to be portrayed AS ALL BAD DOGS or dobermans to be all biters, or chihuahuas to all be nervous shaky biters, or border collies to all be crazy..
which we all know is not true!!
that is my point.
I never once said that you never had to deal with it, nor did I say that Fila had no right to a rant. Talk about words in people's mouth.

I've seen many threads lamenting small dog owners as irresponsible, so I'm not exempt from reading it either.

The issue comes with her reaction and the people who say there is no difference between a rat and a small dog. Should small dog owners take that with smiles and rainbows?

Calling a dog a bastage? Do we know why the peke was at the vet? Maybe a small, scared, sick dog growled in fear at a big dog in a predatory stance? Maybe IF hypothetically.... god, that dog must be OUT OF CONTROL.

As for doubts, I doubt that some of these 'hypothetical' views are not held by certain people here.
There are plenty of athletic, outgoing, bright small dogs. But there are also LOTS of small dogs who really do nothing but shiver and freeze and are accustomed to being held 24/7. I see them a lot at the pet hotel. I like some of them, I think some of them are cute, but many of them DO look like gerbils... they're 2 lbs! They don't do much and most are too fearful to really act like a dog. Of course, that's an extreme of all small dogs, but that is also the trend in toy breeds; "teacups" and teeny tiny designer breeds.
Is this what we are talking about? You do understand that she means dogs like this:

Dogs that weigh not even 2lbs when fully grown, dogs that DO get overwhelmed when they are in a (for a dog) normal situation because they are so badly bred.

So we can call oversized bullies "hippos" and "coffee tables" all day long but we can't do the same with horribly bred teacup dogs? Hmm.... that sounds like a double standard.
Nobody is saying that Romeo or Summer look like rats.

She is talking about extreme cases, not generalizing all small dogs. Sigh.

If the small dog at the vet was injured and scared than the OWNER needs to be PROACTIVE and think AHEAD to make sure that the dog does not growl, bite, or act inappropriately. That is what I have to do, every.day. So what makes my dog so much different? Because she is a certain breed or weighs a certain amount? Why is is okay for small dogs to snap out of fear? Because they are small? As an owner, you need to react and think ahead so situations like that don't arise. Yes, things DO happen, but then you need to remove yourself from that situation asap, you don't let the other party leave.

I do have to say I'm so happy there are lovely Filas like Brutie and Titus and Kharma out there, shedding such a positive light on not only their breed but all dogs in general.

I actually did take something away from this thread, and it's a reminder to me to be less "cold" when it comes to dogs. Every one of them is a living creature and, big or small, is entitled to every right a living creature should have, whether or not it's the kind of dog I would own; whether or not it's been taught to mirror it's obnoxious owner (which so many dogs so often do).

Third wheel monkey looks so sad, and the monkey that's sneaking in some tongue looks so devious.

That is what I was talking about, Jules! Seriously.

But I won't say anything else because it's sure to be taken with over-the-top offense. Even though I love little dogs and want one. If I did get a 2 lb dog, I would be prepared for all of those "rat" comments just like everyone with a dog receives stupid comments about their dog's size/color/shape/personality if they go out into the world at all. I would much rather my dog be called a rat and laughed at than called a bloodthirsty killer and fear/avoided/hated.
