are starting to annoy me. So, I'm going respond to some of the stupid remarks I constantly hear. Why do people feel the need to make these remarks?

Oh gawd, your dog is huge!...OMG is he really? He was a teacup poodle 5 minutes ago. Duh! do you think I don't already know my dog is huge?

He is as big as a horse...ummm not really, maybe a small pony, but not a horse.

I bet he eats you out of house and home...No, he doesn't, but he does enjoy eating rats, oh you have an overgrown one...err is that a wanna be dog?

Will your dog hurt me?...I wish he would, I really do, but unfortunately he would be the one that would pay for it, so I can't allow him do that.

Don't let your dog hurt my dog!...Ummm your bug eyed mop is the one sitting there growling at my dog...a real dog, I might add... that is doing nothing more than leaning against my leg shedding enough hair to make a dog bigger than yours.

Is he a good dog?...If he wasn't, he would be attacking you right now.

Why do you have such a big dog?...I dunno, why do you have such a big mouth and own a dog that is small enough for cats to beat up?

Gawd, look at the size of his big head hahahaha....Unlike you, he also has a large brain to go with that large head.

I can't believe you have a dog that big...I can't believe you have a dog that small. Shouldn't he be stuffed and placed on the back dash of your car, so his head can bob up and down?

Thanks for letting me rant. I feel a little better now.:)

I have nothing against small dogs, I just went thru all of this at the vets office with small dog owners and am annoyed.

Those comments that you made about small dogs irritate ME. I don't know if you were just being sarcastic and trying to make a point (I think you were)... but you are doing the exact same thing that you hate to small dog owners. Making stereotypes and rude remarks. I can't stand when people tell me that they're dog can "eat" mine, or that he's an anklebiter, or whatever. I don't get so many of those comments as my friend does though who has 4lb and 6lb yorkies and the comments about how tiny they are get REALLY old. Really fast... it goes both ways. Super gigantic dogs get loads of comments and super tiny dogs also get them. People can be stupid when it comes to both.

ehn... my dogs are real dogs. Or at least far more real to me than this argument. Honestly if you don't want comments about the size of your dog, don't talk to people when you're out with your dog. Get an I pod... and ignore them.

So you don't like small dogs, I get that, but being a jackass about it isn't helping your argument about your big dog.

Well then, I guess you would understand how I feel. I'm so tired of the remarks. And yes, they were from small dog owners at the vets office. It is nothing agains small dogs...I've had a few in my day. And I loved them very much. I just don't understand why people feel the need to make those kind of remarks?

I thought I might take the time to say how they make me feel. Although I have never been rude enough to tell someone those remarks.

Oh, and referring to me a jackass... You might wanna watch that.

I get so many obnoxious comments about my small dogs from big dog owners. You can't win either way. I've been told my dogs aren't real, are yappy little ankle biters, that they're rats, can't count the times I've been told so and so's big macho dog could eat mine. I've had people come up to me and go way out of their way to tell me they hate small dogs. Okay....

And all the while my dogs are being completely well behaved. My dogs are small but they're all VERY well behaved in public. I can walk all five of them loose leash at the same time and have absolutely no issues.

My dogs are very much real dogs, thankyouverymuch.

I didn't see where she called you a jackass....unless it was a very fast edit. Were you being sarcastic with the small dog remarks? I thought you were but it's hard for me to tell what people mean in text sometimes.

Your dogs are adorable. I always wondered if you really got those kind of remarks?

It is annoying on both sides of the fence. The people with the big dogs who disparage small dogs for being small, regardless of how well behaved they are. The people with the small dogs who squeal and insist that your big dog is trouble, when their dog is the one screaming at the end of the leash.

Things said in a rant shouldn't be held up as standard for the person's actual feelings, let's all keep that in mind. ;)

Yes we do. ALL the time. I can't go anywhere with a dog without some stupid comment.

Also people come up to my paps and do really stupid stupid things that they NEVER did to my german shepherd. They grab them and try to cuddle them or they'll come up and have a great time barking at them and riling them up then laughing and making fun of them.

I've had people I know tell me they were useless many times. The annoying part is usually these people have big dogs that they do absolutely NOTHING with either. They have a 'real' dog and my dogs can't do anything yet Mia is probably more dog than any of them want to deal with. And my dogs are trained more than any of theirs. It's very annoying.

I honestly think having a 'scary' dog is easier in a lot of ways. At least people tended to have some respect for a 70 lb GSD. They don't for toy dogs at all.

I never really understood this, or thought it could be THAT prevalent.

I now work in a store where on rotating days we have a 6 pound male Pomeranian and a 150 pound female St. Bernard in the store.

Mya the saint is ALWAYS a male, and SOOO HUGE and *looks at fluffy the kickmepoo* "That dog could EAT you!"

Fuzzy the pom is ALWAYS a female and everyone would always step on "her" and blah blahh

Yes, is it endlessly annoying. I share your pain and irritation on a part time basis, lol.

I try to ignore most comments. It depends on tone of course, but I have found for most people, they say stupid things really because they are interested and dont know how to start a conversation so they fall back on the generic "whos walking who" "you got a saddle for that thing" "nice horse" etc.

Give her a break. Linda loves dogs, and is having a VENT.

I say crap like that all the time. When you're really irritated, stuff like that tends to come out of your mouth.

Hell, I call Cristy's dog a nasty little ankle biter..

Well, and I also thing the remarks were tongue in cheek...obviously the little dog comments hurt and bother little dog owners, who were the ones making the big dog comments...so it was turning it around trying to point out that.

Did that make any sense lol?

I didnt take the OP as they really meant those things about little dogs but as you say something about my dog, here is what I will say about yours..see how it feels?

You took the words from my mouth. I've both heard and said some of the comments mentioned in this thread. 99% of the time it's just an attempt to start up a conversation. I'll be the first to admit that when I've brought my foster puppies to the barn for the first time and they start barking and growling at Billie (the horse) I tell them how they better not make a fuss or Billie might just eat them. The only time I can really understand being annoyed is when people either say something maliciously/obviously lack tact or do something that gets your dogs upset/riled up. From my personal experience, exclaiming to the owner of a fila/saint/pyrenees/other large breed dog that their dog is huge is nothing more than an attempt to break the ice and talk about the dog. Obviously the person knows that you'd probably already figured out that little detail!

I just don't understand the sensitivity, I guess. Sure, if it's obviously rude, be upset. But otherwise, appreciate that someone noticed your dog and probably wanted to say hi and talk to you about them. ;)

I agree, it was a rant.

I always get "Is that a Pit Bull?" And after me mumbling something about her probably being an AmStaff mix, "Does she bite?" How about you just ask if you can pet her, instead of insinuating that she might take your hand off. Especially since her butt wiggly might throw her out of balance any second in excitement.

You know, I say stuff like that a lot--I never thought anyone would be offended by it. Yesterday someone brought a mastiff puppy to the dog park, and I piped up with "Oh my gosh, her paws are humongous! You're going to have a pet lion soon!"

It was just meant as a friendly quip...I had no idea someone would be hurt by it :( I love it when people comment on how hyper or friendly or fluffy or whatever Lucy is, even though I've heard it 1000x.

I understand completely.

The mini horse or whatever ehhh he is close to that size and we joke about saddling him up for bev LOL.

But the OMG he can eat my dog or tells their dog my dog is going to eat them yeah it can be offending when my dog is the one behaving or just period. Yes my dog is big doesnt mean hes going to eat your little fluffy.

I'm pretty sure calling someone's dog a "bug eyed mop" and "not a real dog" is a bit more of an insult then saying your dog is big as a horse. I don't know what breed of dog you have, but I've made remarks like that towards some of the larger Great Danes and Newfoundlands I've seen, simply out of surprise because it's not a dog you see everyday. You chose the breed, now deal with people's reactions. It kind of comes with the package of owning a large dog.

Not trying to be mean. Just saying.

Here's the deal. It's fine to say I find this annoying. It is wrong (yep I used the W word) to do the same thing back to that person or people in general and assume that they'll just know how you feel. Honestly, I don't get too many comments in my life about my dog's size but even if I did it doesn't make this line of thinking correct, I find anyone as referring to their dog as more dog than someone elses pretty offensive, it's wrong to say their dog is less than a living being while yours is a "real dog", and honestly when referring to those other people as stupid while doing the same thing yourself I don't think out of line to call the behavior unacceptable in whatever term you feel is appropriate. Fila I didn't call you a jackass, I called your behavior being a jackass. I stand by it. Rant or no the message being communicated by you is just as offensive as the comments made to you.

That's what I thought initially, I wasn't sure how to read it, lol.

It goes both ways.

I think, like it's been said, it depends on the tone and the way they are saying it. I've said to someone before that their dog was huge but it wasn't me being, like, rude... I was just starting conversation. Or one time there was a Min Pin at the park who looked pretty small for a Min Pin and I said "Aw, he's the smallest Min Pin I've ever seen..." and then we start conversation. Like, I'm the first to call Jackson a 'monster Yorkie' because he's huge for his breed, LOL. And I've told someone before that their Pug was in fantastic shape and usually I see fat Pugs.

But there's some people who are douchebags about it and are like "MY dog can EAT your dog!!!" in a mean way and that gets annoying. Or when they claim that Jackson is not a REAL dog... that makes me a little pissy. Considering he does WAY more dog stuff than most of these people with big dogs do that tend to make those kind of comments.
