Thing is, just like the decision to marry, doesn't divorce fall under "personal choice?"
So, why are divorce rate statistics relevant as to why homosexual marriage should or should not be legal?
Frankly, "marriage" is a religious and/or cultural institution and the government shouldn't even have its finger in it. There shouldn't be differences in how we're taxed according to marital status, or how we're treated. If there has to be some sort of official, government sanctioned status (which I disagree with), let it be a civil contract, regardless of sex. Leave the bedroom and/or emotional ties out of the state's bailiwick.
