After a quick search, I pretty much read all I need to know about how to start off, and what to feed. I just would like to hear where you all get your meet, and at what age can a dog start raw?

We got pinky about a month ago and she has recently been starting to itch as well. Its to the point that there is an open sore on her neck. I dont think its fleas because they are both on flea meds, and we check them often. We usually dont find any, but will occasionally find one, or two fleas, but I dont think two fleas should be causing a dog to itch iself raw. Anyhow, she is 4 months old now, is this too early to start her on raw? If I cant do raw diet, what else can I try?

Bruno has allergies that make him very itchy, and he has to have a pill twice a day to stop it. Without the pill he will litterally scratch at himself untill he has open wounds all around his head and neck....Hes on taste of the wild now and it seems pretty decent. I have tried some brands of eucanuba, EVO etc, but nothing really makes a difference. I have been wanting to try raw for a while now, and pinky being itchy was pretty much the tipping point.

As always, thanks for your help everyone!

Seems like everyone here knows their stuff! I actually thought you'd have to wait for a few weeks, guess it's a new knowledge for me then?

On a second thought, I don't get it, can you can feed raw at birth, really? I'm dumbfounded.

Not at birth, they only drink milk. But as soon as they are old enough for food you can feed raw. The last litter I had was weaned onto raw.

SHE was being facetious. Besides, puppies do eat raw from birth. Milk for the mother is about a raw as you get.

Cool, Bruno got his first raw meal this morning...Chicken quarters, I left them somewhat frozen so he wouldnt eat it too fast. It took him about 10 minutes to get them chewed up and down the hatch.

We are going to pick up a freezer today. One of our local meat markets said they could order a 40lb box of chicken quarters for $0.99/lb. Is that a good deal? At my local supermarket, whole chickens are $1.29/lb.

Seems expensive to me. I pay about $0.60/lb for chicken quarters and I know a lot of people get them for much less than that. I've mostly moved away from chicken now they are acclimated though.
