Sorry brem, it looks like people assumed you knew about puggles and designer breeds.

And to the other posters: a lot of people on this forum already think that Chazzers hate mutts. Going on about how incredibly ugly a mix is certainly doesn't help that image. Neither does going on about how awful puggles are without explaining why we don't like puggle breeders.

The reason that most people on this board do not like puggle breeders is this: puggles were a mix created specifically for money. Almost every single puggle breeder is in it entirely for the money....they do no health checks on breeding dogs, offer no guarantees, do home screening, etc. They just produce these crossbreed dogs, give them a cutesy name and sell them for insane prices. They are in it strictly for the money, so they try to produce as many puggles as possible and sell them as high as they can. Glorified puppy mills.

And puggles are not a breed. Almost all puggles are a first-generation cross between a pug and beagle....they don't come from a mommy and daddy puggle.

That's why we don't like puggle breeders. It's nothing personal against the puggles themselves: they can't help where they came from. But if you want a pug/beagle mix, look for one at the humane society. Don't even consider buying one from those people who breed them.
well sed Gem!

Half the breeds would not exist if it weren't for crossbreeding.
YES! This is SO true!! :)

However when the people were breeding 2 purebred dogs together to get a new breed they were doing it FOR THE BETTERMENT of the breed... they would pick out the best characteristics and continue to breed ONLY those..
They would then breed a 'puggle' to a 'puggle' to get more 'puggles'!
Not jsut keep breeding a pug to a beagle, pug to beagle.. that's NOT how breeds are created! That's how MIXED BREEDS are created.
I think they are a cute mixed breed..and I would consider getting one from a shelter if it had a good personality.. but NEVER from a 'breeder'

Buddy'sParents: or do I?

Can I please like the idea of a new Pug+Beagle breed? Why do you assume I'll go and buy a mutt?

sheesh. you guys need to relax.

OK. First, I apologize. I had no idea you weren't educated on the whole "designer breed" issue slamming the world right now.

Second, you may absolutely like the idea of a pug and beagle dog, but they are a mutt, they are not a breed and the people breeding them are solely in it for the money not for the betterment of either breed.

Third, we don't need to relax, nor do we have to. Most of the people on this forum are very caring individuals and when someone starts a thread titled "Puggle!" and exclaim that they want one, there are going to be many people that do not agree. Essentially, buying a pug/beagle mutt would be supporting the very people responsible breeders/rescues/shelters fight against every single day. If you think a pug/beagle is cute, please check out your local shelther and/or rescues.. I'm sure there are plenty.

And yes, it matters... because people are using dumb arguments.
No, wanting a dog just because it's cute is a rather uneducated arguement. Alas, I certainly do hope that you educate yourself further on the idea of a pug/beagle mutt before taking on such an adventure.

I prefer the term "so ugly it's cute." :p

But when people come up to me in a store or if I hear someone say "Puggle" it makes me want to puke.

let's see... I have caramel, kettle or extra butter! Pick your poison my dear! :D

Nothing at all.. it's the mixing of the two to create a "puggle" when it's simply a beagle/pug mutt. :)
Hmmmm....I think I'll have extra butter and extra salty!!!:D

ugha. Why couldn't this be posted in one of the 5678392 "designer" threads? It just starts up more arguements, that have been stated many times before.

No dogs should be cross-bred intentionally, IMO. Whether they are adorable, or funny-looking.

I think Puggles look like funny little "oops" dogs, I wouldn't say they are ugly. But, I think it's insane that they're coined as "mini Mastiffs". :p It *is* ridiculous that they are being sold for $1000's, based mostly on looks, because there are plenty of cute, slightly awkward mixes that are completely over-looked at shelters everywhere.

being intentionally crossed, being sold for hundreds of dollars and ending up in the pounds/shelters with the other mix breed dogs is what gets me. What's the point? Adding to the population? Or profit? Because that's what it seems like to me!
