So, I've heard through the grapevine that my neighbor knows that I have 4 dogs and the town limit is 3. I was planning on getting a specialty license so that I would be totally fine with the law.. but after getting McKenzie realized that that license would not work for me due to zoning laws... so I asked my dad if he would register her.

All of my neighbors have or have had dogs and all love my bunch. They are favorites of the people in the neighborhood and everyone smiles at them and is just adoring of "the girl w/the puppies". I'm not sure if this neighbor will say anything, but her daughter lives w/her and her ex husband is a cop.. so I'm just very stressed out about this.

All of my 3 dogs are registered and up to date on shots... Kenzie isn't registered yet because she still needs her rabies, but I was planning on registering her to my father's address.. which he said is fine.

What should I do? I absolutely REFUSE to give up my dog if she calls the city about it, I would rather live in my car, move, whatever. It's not like I have 15 dogs. I have 4 under 10 lbs, they are never ever unattended.. clean, for the most part quiet.. I'm just sick to my stomach about this.

Help?

I think things like this are only reported if the neighbor is having trouble with the dogs. I guess a spiteful neighbor with something against you could also report you, but that doesn't sound like the case.

I always thought those laws that limit the number of pets were there to help if neighbors were actually being disturbed by someone's animals.

She "seems" nice enough, she's actually my little sisters teacher.. but we're doing some yard work and putting up a fence *improving her property as well by doing this*.

She is nosey though and likes to be in everyone's business so I'm not sure how it will play out. My dogs never go in her lawn, never are left outside unattended, are always leashed, and are quiet unless someone is coming in or out or they may bark a few times outside.

It's hard not to worry, but I'll bet nothing happens. And you've got the added safeguard of having one of them registered to your dad's address, so he's 'visiting' if you're asked, I suppose.

If she were going to do it, she would probably do it right away.

Do any of them look alike? You could just make sure to never have more than 3 at a time outside. LOL. Good luck.

Oooh, Doberluv's idea is smart. That's how we kept our second car hidden from the guys at my dad's work... they wanted him to come in around 4am and work till 10pm or so, but since the first car had been totalled and he was carpooling with my mom he couldn't. When we got the new car, which is basically identical, we didn't say anything and kept up with carpooling. It worked wonders.

For now, though.. Get your pup her vaccinations and register her! :D

Yeah, I've been off the 'net for a little bit working on my business. But I'm having more time now to hop on, so it's great! I missed Chaz!!

I guess I'll just have to start allowing them all out during the day time when everyone is at work (not that that will last very long since my neighbor is a teacher). Once I have my fence it will be so much better because she won't be able to see who's back there, thank goodness.

Do any of you think registering to be an animal rescue could work to help me out of the 4 dog legal issues? Or is that completely hard to get? Ugh :(

She's going in on Friday for her vaccinations, and as soon as she gets her rabies she'll be registered w/my dad.

*lol* none of them really look alike.. except that they're all small and furry! :) My neighbors are just so nosey, I'm sure they notice everything. Everyone else in the neighborhood but her has said how cute the new puppy is and they all come over, pet her, ect. Ugh, I hate my county :(

Get cozy with the local cops, that's how most people in my town seem to get away with breaking the law  Not a slam at the OP, who seems to have inoffensive pets, just thinking of the weird stuff in my town. The illegal kennels, the farm animals, the archery ranges... Anyway, there's not much you can do besides be an extremely nice neighbor and hope nobody gets in the mood to call a/c or the police. It doesn't sound like they will.

Well, after she gets registered.. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Can they really do anything about it, then? Good luck. :)

Thank you, that's my thinking too. Plus I'm *hoping* the local animal control will have better things to do than police me for having a 1.5 lb dog, 1 dog over the limit =/.

Thank you... I'm really hoping that they don't. There's not a reason in the world for her to other than pure maliciousness.

Just out of curiosity: Did you know about the ordnance before you got the dogs, did you move... or ??

I'd heard about it, but called the clerk before I purchased the dog and was told I could get her a specialty license. Then when I call back, conveniently the zoning laws are not in my favor. So it's just this huge headache and was all confusion.
