lmao, how did it even make breed? The judge judging should have talked to the owners then - wonder if it was the only entry? Ay caramba, I can't see someone other than a pet owner wanting to try dog shows out showing a dog in that condition :yikes:

The dog is just clipped down. I love my dogs in full coat but now and then one clips a dog down for various reasons. I never see people saying poor shih-tzu/maltese/lahsa/poodle/yorkie/etc.

However, the dog would be disqualified since the dogs are not to be clipped or trimmed. From the length of that leg coat they still have a good 9 months until they have something that is showable.

The owner may have been very ignorant of the rules for coats and taken the dog to a groomer somewhere who decided to groom and neaten up the coat for the show. The clip job on the legs looks to be rather neatly done.

Why is it awful?

Why poor dog?

So the person showing the dog might be ignorant. At least they are out somewhere with the dog where they might get educated.

These attitudes are exactly why people see show people as snobby mean people.

Almost ALL people with coated breeds keep them cut down if they are not showing them. It does not mean they don't know how to or refuse to brush or groom them.

I love Afghan dogs because they have such beautiful coats! Maybe this owner was told something wrong; maybe he is new to showing and his groomer told him he could go ahead and cut his dogs hair because its summer and is hot. Maybe his groomer is one of those people that act like they know what they are talking about and are clueless. Maybe this guy thought he was talking to a professional. I think this guy was scammed in some way by a groomer. I don't think someone who knew what they were doing would go on with cutting the dogs hair and attempt to show the dog.

I love afghans. I love their personalities, I love their intelligence. If I own one, I will have it cut down. I don't plan on doing breed ring, and the coat is much easier to care for if it's kept shorter.

Is awful beacause that particular haircut looks ugly, I have seen pics of afghan with haircuts Like this ones http://images.search.yahoo.com/imag...&sigi=11e0m4d6p&sigb=13dkjscqn&sigh=118g6442n and they don't look ridiculus , also they can't be shaved for a show, if they whant to shave it then don't show it.
That same dog was show the previous day with a full coat.

Also I have seen many poodles, cocker, yorkies, etc with ugly haircuts too

But sapphire.. the dog doesn't know its in an 'ugly' clip. There are dog breeds themselves I find horribly ugly-BUT I am sure the people who love them think they are fabulous. The dogs themselves don't care.

I would rather see a bad looking clip job than a matted coat. A matted coat will cause the dog discomfort and pain.

I DO feel bad for the owners if they didn't know. If the judge was mean about it I bet they will never show again.

When an Afghan grows back in they go through an ugly period. They can't help it, the coat just looks bad for a while. In another 3 months the leg coat will start to hang more and it will look better.

I hope someone politely pulled them aside and explained why their dog was DQed. I'm puzzled why only the leg coat was clipped and not the side coat, it is why I wonder if someone told them it needed to be done that way.

There is also a lot of other little details, such as the saddle not being plucked and the throat not being cleaned up and the cheeks not being plucked and etc etc.

I'm so glad someone like Red & Icy agree with me, I wasn't even going to bother posting because I'd start a fight, I thought. There's nothing wrong with that dog except its ignorant pet humans. :p

I find it sad that you are calling people's dog's clips ugly honestly.

I have shaved down one of my cockers. Even maintaing partial coat can be a chore. I feel bad for the owner as it would appear they didn't know. Hopefully they got a non snarky education.

All of the poor dog in this thread is pretty sickening though. The dog looks healthy and happy. What is there to poor dog over? The fact that someone doesn't spend endless massive hours keeping that dog in full show coat right now?

Right.. poor poor dog.. Someone want to have a pity party for Cider? She must be the most fugly cocker ever since she can't grow show coat. She can't grow more than about 2" of coat. I guess I should be highly ashamed.

I don't think anyone is offended.

However, you said 'poor' dog as if it was abused or neglected or in a bad situation or something because of a funky haircut and then allusions where made that clipping down a coated breed is in some way inherently wrong.

That is what I was wondering. If the coat is not supposed to altered, surely they must have known.. When Galina was shaved for her surgical AI she was out of the show ring for 6 months to get her coat back...

Well maybe not. Maybe someone was like 'Lets enter Candy' and they said 'Okay' and they didn't think to ask if Candy was in show coat. The owner thought Candy's coat looked fine. Maybe they thought 6 months of growth was enough. Maybe some groomer said Candy needed to have neater hair.

We don't know the entire story.

I.E. Candy is a fictional name used to help build an image
