If it is a garter snake or something non poisonis I would take it myself somewere. HOWEVER if it was a poisonis snake I would kill it. I would not want to risk the lives of my family or pets because "I dont want to kill a snake"
Animal controll has more pressing matters than a snake in my yard

I'd call animal control and if they couldn't get there quickly...well, I do have a shovel. But only if it's in my yard.

Exactly. It's not like I would kill one because it was on the trail I was walking on.

I agree with rottnpagan. Thats why I love Alberta

I'm in the no kill zone here. I can remove my dogs from the yard until the snake is gone. I don't think my bf would kill it either. He has a lot of respect for animal life. 'Course, he'd have to handle it.

Thing is, Saje . . . they don't leave. They make nests. They mate. They lay eggs. More snakes . . .

I really, really don't like killing anything, but I owe my dogs the same protection they freely give me, so if it's something that has the potential to seriously hurt or kill them, it's gotta go - by any means necessary. If I can relocate it, fine, if not, well . . . the dogs win. Every single time.

Glad I don't have to deal with it. I'd still exhaust all other possibilities first.

And coming from bear country, yes, I'd rather be here then with snakes  Not that I don't like snakes. They are ok. I just don't want them in my yard
Bears rarely enter yards.

Not too many poisonous snakes where I'm at. But, in a rare situation where my life or my dogs life was in danger, I'd have no problem killing a snake.

Having lived on 8 acres of wooded area, I used to move leaves, weeds, clippings etc to several areas for mulch down the road...so every 4 years would dig into old areas and was terrified of what could arise !! Mostly I'd get good mulch,,,, but occasionally a snake would challenge me.... I hate snakes !!
