Jesus Christ! It looks like that guy you see in those horror movies where he has a bunch of nails in his head!

Where are peoples brains to allow such a thing to happen to the dog they are suppose to love. That is just aweful, imagine the pain that poor dog must have been in.

Out in the country they do things a little different. He may be an outside dog. Porcupines go pretty much where ever they want.

This bull terrier doesn't look so bad anymore

If the animal was in the dog's fenced yard, then you can't feel too much rage toward the owner. HOWEVER if this occured while the dog was running loose off leash, then every one of those quills should have been reamed up the owner's *#@*!!!!!!

I live in the country, we walk in the woods, we have run into porcupines but never has that happened. Maybe owners need to think about these threats and deal with them in a better way.

Accidents do happen ..... we can't blame the owner if he/she was taking her dogs for a nice wooded walk. I do feel terrible for the poor dog. My Dad's setter , "Tony " got into one while hunting .... but NOTHING like it. Guess the poor pit just hung on too long !

I live in the country...and Addie has met up with a porcupine. THANKFULLY, NOT to that extent! Just another reason I don't let her off leash anymore...she had just poked her little head around..WHAM...4 huge quills sticking out of her nose. Am I a horrible owner..no. Do I let her free now...NO. Things happen, tho. I paid the price with the huge vet bill...you may not believe this, but she wasn't very disturbed by it all. They just need to be taken out by the vet cause it's the antibiotic after that is so important. (altho around here folks just yank them out..rub a little alcohol on..no biggie) That pic is such an extreme case.....which is why it is making 'news'. I have to guess that pit did try to wrestle with the porcupine....probably won't do that again. Poor baby.

Has anyone paid attention to the fact that this is called Pit vs. Porcupine? This is NOT a Pitbull, it's a Bull Terrier...this kind of stuff really irks me  Any bull breed is called a Pitbull now days! Come on people, learn your breeds.

Note* The above comment was not intended for any of the members of Chaz or the original poster EliNHunter...it's a statement towards whoever started this in circulation. I got this picture emailed to me a few weeks back from a close breeder and friend of mine who claimed that her friend owns this dog and that her name is Inca. It had a whole story on what happened and how she is recovering etc. Now, weeks later I see that the story is no longer attached and some moron labeled it Pit vs. Porcupine. Just goes to show what happens to things on the net!

I've seen worse at the Vet clinic I worked at. Porcupines can be a great play toy for most dogs :)
3 of my dogs have been in a play session with a porcupine...one of my Newf's I had on a leash walking along a trial at dusk. She stuck her head in a bush and came out with her mouth and nose, chin covered in quills. My Rottweiler came across one in my yard and had quills all through her mouth, face legs, even back legs...looked a bit worse than the Bull Terrier they show on the link. Luckiely my dogs are easy to work on and I removed all quills even between the teeth, back of mouth, tongue with no problems. ;)
It happens to the best of owners...it can happen very easeily, even on lead if your not paying attention and checking every bush your dog pops its head into.

I knew it was a bull terrier but I just gave up on caring whether one breed is mistaken for another... Too many people mistake it... plus it's hard to tell it's a bull terrier with all that crap on its head

I'm sorry I really don't know these breeds well enough to label.....I just went by the caption and the mass of quills.
