I was looking at breeders (am on a few long term waiting/consideration) lists for a puppy but still I insist on going on petfinder ... Why do I DO this to myself ??? I can't save them all & their sweet, sad faces call to me .

Anyone else with this problem?

Nope. lol I don't even pretend most rescues would adopt to me with my two intact opposing sexes and two elder DA dogs. I do have trouble when I look at senior dog rescues though, I can't stop.

Not petfinder persay, but I do browse my local border collie rescues. No intent of going that route this time around, but never say never! :)

Yes, although I mostly keep myself under control. We have a two dog limit in our condo, and I don't even want another dog right now, but I like to poke around.

I like to look at shelters that the local rescue pulls from, so I can imagine what I'd get. I think I want my next dog to be a small scruffy thing, but it can be so hard to find ones that aren't also long backed/short legged, which I don't want.

This girl:

makes my heart flutter right now. That third picture, where you can see she is mid-full body wiggle?

WANT.

I just remind myself that there will always be cute little rescue dogs ready and waiting when I'm ready!

lol same.
Wish I could enjoy the petfinder pages but I know that most would never adopt to me regardless (student, rents an apartment, intact dog from breeder) so I never really look much.

There are some stories that pop up on my newsfeed that do break my heart though. I so would love to be able to foster at least.

Uhh, that's what I thought too when I applied for Rider. We were living in a pop up trailer at a campground and moving across the country in two months. Plus both under the age of 21. I figured it was just for s***'s and giggles.

We see how that turned out. :p

ETA: I guess I will make this post useful. There are two rescues out there that have my eye right now, but one is in Wyoming, and the other just doesn't fit with what I'm looking for right now. Dallas, an Aussie mix, was at the rescue when/where we got Rider. He's just a stunner and super sweet. Bloo is on Chaz, and I just love her. Unfortunately, I'm just not willing to give up my well bred ACD spot, and it isn't fair for me or the dogs to have three performance dogs. Nor is it fair to Josh to have to give up his Griffon.

You guys have a griff?!? *squees!*

ETA: Haha, I'm a dork. Just noticed it's listed under future additions.

Not on petfinder per say, but any time the various Middle Eastern saluki rescues post new dogs I wish I was on that side of the ocean. :p
I'm happy with two Afghan hounds but I am desperately wishing I had the time money and space to add another Saluki!
Even fostering is a problem because of the wait to find flight buddies. I want my saluki puppy fix! There is a ton of them looking for fosters right now but they are all 6000 miles away!

Same as you Adrianne, I cannot stop looking at the senior Pit bulls. I would love to adopt a 10-11 years old, but since we are bringing a Boerboel pup into the family this year I don't think it would be fair to the older dog. And an older dog would have to be fit enough to keep up with a little bit of hiking and other out door activities. One day though. Its pretty much the only way I will own another Bully breed.

Around here it's called KSL, but the misery is the same. OTH when I can afford the gas to go, I should be able to make some hog dogs cheap.

I used to do it all the time. But then I worked at the shelter so I stopped looking at other shelter's Petfinder pages (and I ended up bringing home two dogs and a cat).

I got Pirate from a breeder last year and he's still intact. I recently had a falling out with a rescue/networking/foster group because of Pirate still being intact. It didn't matter that he's a show dog. It didn't matter that he's still a puppy and never produced any himself. It doesn't matter that I've never produced a litter in my life. But I was automatically irresponsible because I keep an intact dog.

After that experience, I feel like I'm going to have a hard time getting another dog from a rescue someday. And I really want to rescue another senior great dane. We'll see what happens but I'm just a little bit over rescues right now.
