I don't know why, but people are terrified of Hades, and everyone wants to pat Roxy!!

I don't know why, but people just want to hug her and pat her! And of course I don't let anyone, I always direct their attention towards Hades, and their hesitant at first because they really want to see Roxy and Hades has a muzzle on.

But once they see him, they love him. "Hannibal Lector" I call him! LMAO

It's odd though, I don't think I would want to pat ROxy if I didn't know her. She is pretty big!

Uf i can''t stand those kinds of people!! And those foo foo dogs are not dogs at all! They''re dolls. I find it totally unfair to the pups who have to suffer that. Honestly, it''s ridiculous!

I've had the same experience, exept it didn't invold a little dog.

I was walking Sam down the street and walked in front of these apartment buildings and these two little kids come running up to me asking if Sam was a nice dog and if they could pet her. And before I could even awnser there fathers comes over and says "no, that dog will eat you" and then gathered up his kids and left. He said it so rude too, I seriously thought I was going to kick him right in the...nvm nvm, lets keep it civilized here :D

LOL. I do tell Ripley that big dogs will eat him. He sometimes does his "tough guy" display... Once he did it in the face of a MASSIVE Great Dane. The dog just reached his head up and sniffed Ripley while he was growling and spazzing out.

It's not meant to offend the big dog's owner, it's just random babbling at my dog.

I have two foo foo dogs, but they LOVE big dogs. I have to hold them back from pouncing all over them, lol. Chloe is adorable and the woman in petsmart needs to get a clue :)

People are just silly.

When I walk Orchid, sometimes we run into this girl (about my age) who has this tiny little yorkie looking pup. EVERYTIME she sees Orchid coming, she *literally* picks up her dog, and walks the other way.

She won't even speak! LOL!

Who knows? Little dog owners are probably scared for their little dogs. Personally, I think it's a dog's job to defend her people, not the other way around. :p

However, I have known some VERY tough little dogs- especially pomeranians! They're fiesty!

I get two kinds of comments with Mojo - "Oh He's so CUTE! Is he a puppy? What is he?" or "OMG what are you doing bringing that dangerous dog in here?!" I even had a woman tell me while in Petsmart that dogs like mine should all be put to sleep. Now mind you, Mojo was play bowing at the time with a big grin on his face... I just shrugged and asked her if she would like to hear that about her own dog? "Because eventually what goes around comes around..."

Non-chalance wins sometimes.

I constantly get the same comments, especially when I have Winston (Doberman) with me.

well that women about chloe in the store was pretty rude......what a moron.

that being said mean comments to small dog owners just because their little dog barks is not very nice either.

i got comments like that before and it sure doesnt make me feel great.

to all big dog owners with a holier than you attitude "GET A LIFE"
oh yeah, picking on the little ones makes you look really tough........
what do you get out of it? make somebody feel bad, is that so much fun?

how can you tell if somebody treats their dog like a dog or like a child in the first place?
just because you watch them for a minute carring their small dog through petsmart?

i carry baily in petsmart sometimes, simply because of the fact that about a million dogs already peed in there and i dont need him to mark on top of it.....
that doesnt make him less dog.

just the other day i was in petsmart and a women with a golden retriever puppy came towards us. of course baily barked. baily was excited and jumped towards the pup wanting to play.
the women pulled her dog back and said to me: "looks like she was going to bite!!!!" pointing at baily.

i hate morons like that. first of all: just because it is small doesnt mean its a girl! please people rething your stereotyps...
second: if my dog ever bit another dog does she really think i would bring him to petsmart?????
baily is totally harmless just overexcited. if they give him a chance they see that he will play not try to rip the other dog apart.....

i know big dog owners do get a lot of stupid comments from idgit small dog owners too but it goes both ways..... if a little dog barks, so what? after all it's a DOG (who would have thought dogs would bark:confused: ...)

Soft pawz it sounds like you have had lots of issues with bigger dogs, but just as the bigger dog owners don't really take it personally, please don't take it personally either.

I don't think anyone was being that way in this posting, I'm not sure where you got this impression?

As a small dog owner I laugh because people are neurotic sometimes about them and yes its funny that a dog is always treated like a baby :) I don't believe in picking up and coddling a dog because this tells them its okay to be affraid of whatever they where upset about.

I also know that many times some of those same small dog owners who treat there dog like a baby have a real baby a year or so later and then give up the dog.

All dogs bark, but I think a lot of owners, not just big dog owners, get upset that the owner keeps letting them bark and not trying to stop it. I am a small dog owner and HATE to hear a dog constantly barking. Charlie barks sometimes, but he knows the quiet commend that I taught him. Its a work in progress, but all I would like to see is the effort to try and stop the dog from barking.

If Bailey is barking and jumping at other dogs.......Bailey needs some training whether he is small or not.
Can you imagine the looks I would get if I took one of my dogs into petsmart and they were jumping and barking at other dogs?
Just because a dog is small is no reason to "not train or not control" your dog.
As for comments: I just tend to laugh them off. Some comments people make really show how much they know about dogs.

Although I have bigger dogs.... I like small dogs too. Just at this point in my life, my bigger dogs fit in best with my family. Someday I will probably own a small dog.. but I will NOT forgo any training just because I can pick him/her up to avoid bad behaviour.

I also think I remember you posting before that you do consider your dog as your child. So why are you being so defensive? Why not back up what you really believe in?

I love small dogs and hopefully one day I will own one, but I wasnt generalizing I was talking about ONE woman with her ONE dog...

If you would have cared to read what I posted, I said it was barking and growling and acting crazy.... not just barking....

just the other day i was in petsmart and a women with a golden retriever puppy came towards us. of course baily barked. baily was excited and jumped towards the pup wanting to play.
the women pulled her dog back and said to me: "looks like she was going to bite!!!!" pointing at baily.
See if Chloe would have been doing that I could understand (maybe) why she said what see did, but Chloe was just standing there, wagging her tail and not doing anything at all no jumping or barking or anything

I don't think the woman was trying to be mean.

I know that I have said nearly the exact same thing when I'm out with my mom and Scandal, her maltese. Scandal is very much an alpha dog, and will occassionally growl and bark like that at a large dog that offends her sensibilities. I will say, "Scandal, that dog is big enough to eat you."

I'm not referring to the temperament of the other dog. I'm just commenting on the silliness of a 7 lb Foo-Foo trying to assert her superiority over a dog 10 times her size. :lol-sign:

I don't know why you let it bother you to be honest :D

I don't....

Big/small/fat/thin - I treat them all individually.

I couldn't give a **** what anyone says to me about Bo either, she's a star, and I know it ;)

I have had people not only pick up their dogs but pull there kids back when we walk around places like Petsmart, just because of Tanks size and look. I am responsible for my dog's actions so I make sure he is well mannered and gets lots of socialization so he is calm and in control when we go out in public, I expect other people's dogs to be under control also, am I expecting too much?
Thats why I always pull Tank up short when we come across a small dog or any dog really, I have had too many run ins with the jumpy barking type and even though Tank is very good at ignoring them he ocassionaly gives them a warning rumble, then the owners freak thinking he is about to attack or somthing. If they are calm and just wanting to do the normal sniffing greating then Tank is fine with them, he likes to make new friends.

A dog is a dog is a dog! Small, medium, and large dogs alike ALL need training. Katie is medium sized, and embarresses me to death when we're out in public b/c she barks at everything! We are working on this...God knows Im trying, but she's getting better. She is not aggressive though, especially towards other dogs. She is more weary of people though, which we are also working on. Being as though Im not 100% of her mixes, I cant say its her "breed"...but me working with her and training her surpasses whatever stereotypes of breeds are out there. "Cant we all just get along?!"

I dont know why either, I guess its just because Chloe is the sweetest thing in the whole world and what actually bothered me was the way she said it, and the way she looked at her...
