I was wondering how many people use Ol' Roy Puppy food? I was wondering what you think about it's quatily's. I haven't heard much about it but it seems that the veggie and real meat blend was good. I've been switching Scarlet to it and she seems to like it? Then being a puppy she eats about anything :lol-sign:. Or maybe Purina Puppy Chow? We use to use it alot on the puppies but then when we were just down to my yorkie Jasmine she wouldn't eat it. So i haven't used Purina in a while, so anybody ever use Ol' Roy or suggest a good puppy food brand with non-EXPENSIVE pricing?

Purina and Old Roy are NOT something I would consider feeding my dogs.

There are many better foods, you just have to research a little.

Many people here feed super premium foods which have a bigger price tag.

I just cannot afford that, so the best food I have found for my dogs is:
Kirkland Signature Chicken and Rice. You can only buy it at costco though. If you have a costco's near you, it would be worth looking into. I get a 40 lbs. bag for about 17.00

I hope you reconsider the Ol'Roy dogfood.

I would def. NOT feed that food.

Anything is better then that, even something like Nutro is better quality.

Otherwise, I have heard Kirklands is good, although I have never tried it.

Oh, you don't want to feed your dog that. Here is the ingredients list.
Ingredients
Ground yellow corn, soybean meal, ground whole wheat, corn syrup, poultry fat, Meat and bone meal (Animal Fat Preserved with BHA and Citric Acid), Chicken by-product Meal, Rice, Animal Digest, Salt, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Vitamin D and E Supplement, Niacin, Copper Sulafate, Manganous Oxide, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Meadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex Source of Vitamin K, Calcium Iodate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Cobalt Carbonate, Folic Acid, Sodium Selenite, Folic Acid

Compare that to a quality food such as (for example) Innova Evo.
Ingredients
Turkey, Chicken, Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Potatoes, Herring Meal, Chicken, Fat, Natural Flavors, Egg, Garlic, Apples, Carrots, Tomatoes, Cottage Cheese, Alfalfa Sprouts, Dried Chicory Root, Taurine, Lecithin, Rosemary Extract, Vitamins/Minerals, Viable Naturally Occurring Microorganisms

Do you see the difference? You can check out http://www.dogfoodproject.com/ for more info on what to look for in a dog food.

Some of the quality foods seem more expensive, but you don't have to feed as much. Plus you will save on vet bills in the long run.

I think Canidae is pretty resonably priced, you might want to check that out.

Ol'roy is junk!!!

Canide is resonably priced once i get my first paycheck walker is going on it. But i swear by the stuff. Its inexpensive and really helps the skin and coat you feed less and we havent takin tytus in to the vet for any medical issues since we put him on it. but if you cant find Canide i would go with Nutro lamb and riceyou can get it at Petsmart and Pet Supermarket. Around here Petsupermarket is cheaper.

I've fed Purina to my puppies for many years like i said i just stopped because my yorkie didn't like it. Also buying a yorkie she can't have that much protein so its hard balancing a good food brand. I've never took my dogs to the vet like some people do. If my dog has 1 little problem i don't rush it to a vet and get charged a bundle and there's nothing seriously wrong.

I don't belive dog foods are the only to blame some people don't feed there dogs right. With Ol'Roy i only feed her half a cup a day and she's not plump but not thin. Some people belive that if they spend $30 a bag that the dog will be healthy. I'm sorry thats a bunch of crap and its not true off brands and lower brands are just as good. If you want to get all that i suggest meat shakes and blends for your dog. It cost alot less and it won't hurt the puppy, same with people and treats such as a peanut butter lick.

Not everything makes a dog sick like people say some just like to over react. I know better safe than sorry but owning and perviously fostering dogs i'd have to say i've met very over reactive pet owners. If there dog gets a cold they rush it to the vet like its life or death. I'm not saying not to feed higher food brands but not everything is what people say. Sometimes it gets a little crazy and stupid for my taste.

Why did you ask your question if you didn't want an honest answer?? Ol'Roy is crappy food, end of story. It would be like feeding a five year old child nothing but french fries and candy bars. Yes, the child would survive, but he would in no way be healthy. Ol'Roy is nothing but fillers and poor quality meat products. If you are truly concerned about feeding a better quality food, stay away from Ol'Roy and ANY purina products. Do your research and you will see that it's not "crazy and stupid". It's called doing the best thing for your dog. ;)

Spending $30 for a bag of dog food every 2wks is crazy. I don't even pay that to have them fixed..

go to canidae.com and it will show you the store you can buy it from. And a 20 lb last me a month with my 70lb dog. And a 40lb bag last my stepmom and dad a month for a 80-90 lb dog and a 40lb dog.

Yes you are right about both diets O'roy and purina. They have to many preservitives in them. Especially the fillers SOYA and GROUND UP CHICKEN PARTS (BONES)

Kirkland is an awesome food. It is high in nurtients and is a positive diet. I personally use Iams. This diet works for me although very expensive

If your thinking that it is $30 for a little yorkie to eat for 2 weeks, then you are thinking wrong.

I have 4 chihuhuas. I get the 18lb bag of chicken soup for the puppy lovers soul, for 18.95 and that lasts a LONG time, 2 months at least! Old Roy is crap. They also put in a ingredient that is used to euthanize animals!

Point well taken and received. I would put it this way! Would you as a person want to eat rice and bones each and everyday or would you rather eat steak potatoes vegitables and desert? You know what I would want! So why in Gods Green earth would any one offer to feed their dog card board? Namely O'Roy or other brands like it?

I feed my yorkie the same food as my 80lb Alaskan. She will only eat Dad's dog food, also like i said before not everybody can afford to feed "expensive" brands of dog food. Maybe its not all about everybody and there whirlpool of classy dog foods. Also a dog would eat dirt.. So if you want to talk about what they would like to eat i'm sorry your dog might think otherwise on what he would like to eat.

A 20 lb bag of Canidae is about $20. It's not bad at all. I can't even imagine how long that would last for a Yorkie. And it's a great quality food, you are actually getting way more for your money. You can buy it online, or you can go to http://www.canidae.com/company/storelocator.html and find a store that sells it near you. Give it a try, I think your Yorkie will really like it. You can probably get a free sample if you email Canidae.

OK, so why did you even post this question? you asked for people opinions on Old Roy, we gave them, and now you are shooting everyone down.

And trust me, I have chi's they are some of the most pickiest dogs. but they WILL eat when hungry. Put one food down and thats it. If your worried about blood sugar, give some nutrical.

Just because she "looks" not fat or thin, doesn't mean she is healthy on the inside. My sister is thin, but eats crap all day b/c she never gains weight, does it mean she is healthy?
