I've been trying to keep going hard at yoga and making improvements. Trying to up my arm strength and ab strength but it's tough.

I'm finally able to get into and hold baby bakasana pose. For like 7 seconds. My abs have been screaming at me all week.

Bought myself and the dogs a treadmill last night. A little over-zealous I jumped on this morning despite my aching legs from yesterday's work out.

20 minute 5k by June 6th, here I come.

Just looked up the baby bakasana pose....that is impressive! Yoga is something I'd love to take up once I'm done school

Not to sound even more like a hippie whackjob than I usually do....but yoga changed my life. I don't do it every single day, when I do, I do it for like twenty minutes, the only time I've taken a real class is mommy and me when Lillian was born.

But....my whole entire life if I sat in a car or a train for more than about 40 minutes, I have awful back pain. Tension headaches for years. I did yoga three times and took the train to my parents and I was hooked.

The mindfulness and focusing that comes into yoga is something that's translated to my every day life, all the time. It'd reduced my anxiety immensely. My PMS isn't as bad...or much more bearable. I heard a quote the other day:

"Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what can not be cured"

A 20 min 5k would be really impressive! What's your PR now?

I finished 45 KB swings, 45 pull-ups& 45 push-ups in 4:53 this afternoon. I guess crossfit is working ahah

A friend of mine that lives in the city I'll be moving to says that there's "pay what you can" yoga classes. I'd like to try them out just for a little while to make sure my form is okay. I'm really paranoid about doing things wrong lol.

I've done a bit of yoga with the xbox Kinect workout games, but I just don't feel like I'm getting the full benefit. I can definitely believe the results though, any form of exercise is good for the mind & body, but with yoga's super calming mantra and focus on breathing it can do wonders.

Last year my "official" time was 30.05 I think. But over the summer I clocked myself at roughly 25 minutes as best. I don't know much, but I did read somewhere that for women a time that's considered "good" is 15-19 minutes.
Up until a few years ago (when I found the 5k that I can run with a dog) I was more into weights than running, it's an odd shift for me lol.

That's awesome that crossfit has been working so well for you! That's something else I'd love to get into.

I'm going to my second class tonight. I didn't care for the first one (a restorative class) but I'm going to go a couple more times and see what I think before making a decision. I'm 20.5 weeks pregnant so there's a limited number of classes I can get into since I wasn't working out for about 4 months just before getting pregnant.

I miss CrossFit in the very worst way. It's been a year since I quit and I still think about it weekly, sometimes more than that.

15 minutes "good?" Jesus, that's a sub-5 minute mile. For reference when Meb won Boston last year, his time averaged out to about 6-minute miles.

"Good" would be something like 8-minute miles.

Yeah.. Beanie beat me to it!

That's a crazy time. I don't kno where you read that but it was a little off in terms of time unless it was good for like Olympic athletes ahaha

And yes. Crossfit is literally the best! I deadlifted 155lbx2 this afternoon. I know it isn't super impressive but I only weigh 125!

30 years ago, my best 5K was 16:27. My PB since I started running again in 2013 was in the 22 minute range. I'd LOVE to get in the 20 minute times again.

The last 5K I ran in, the first female finisher was high 18's.

That's awesome!! Are you still endurance running? How does that work out with the Crossfit?

My friends are doing it and they all really want me to join with them. It's SO bloody expensive, I'm not sure I can swing it. And I'm really worried about how it will sync up with my endurance training...

Next week I "officially" start my half-marathon training again.

I am! I have a half at the end of this month. Which I haven't been training for at alllllll.

I doubted crossfit having any running benefits so I did an experiment. I stopped running for the whole month of October (unless it was in the WOD). Went to crossfit 5 times a week. Last weekend in October, I ran a 5k. I got 5k PR. It was nuts. So now I fully believe that it is a huge help because I always cross trained /I swam on a competitive team (I'm also a faster swimmer now)& I've never been this fit in my life.

Edit- I will never stop crossfit. It has become a priority for me. I absolutely love it.

And FWIW, my 16:27 time - I was third in the race.

Don't kill yourself to get into the teens right away. If that's a goal, that's awesome, but taking over 10 minutes off of your time in a 3 mile race is pretty aggressive.

Good luck and keep running!

Yeah, after last year, I'm definitely at to the point where I'm like "I have limited time. Do I run, or lift?" Lift. Always lift. Barring physical injury, the run will pretty much then take care of itself - it becomes soooo much more about the mental aspect at that point.

I'm mostly worried about attitudes. I know a lot of Crossfitters (and powerlifters too, in fairness) who think endurance running is a waste. But I don't do it because I think it's going to make me lose a bunch of weight or anything, I do it because I enjoy it. I feel like I shouldn't have to explain or defend that to anybody, and sometimes people really REALLY want to lecture me on why endurance running sucks.

Supposedly everybody at the box here is really nice... and you get a free intro session, so I could just go and gauge reactions when I'm like "PS I RUN HALF MARATHONS HI." I DO like that they also offer Oly lifting classes, so... I think I could find people to get along with.

but UGHUGHUGHUGHUGH SOOO EXPENSIVE UGH

Thanks!

Last year I was (incredibly foolishly) drinking the night before and didn't get much sleep before. So I feel like that totally killed the time I could have gotten and it's eating at me

I've been doing the South Beach (low carb) diet since the 12th of Jan. Already hit my first goal of losing 5 lbs. The girls at work and I are going to be starting some Jillian Michaels dvd next week.

Just found my old notebook that I used to keep track of my workouts last year.
While I have gained a ton of weight (where I have no idea), it's comforting to know that I'm still pretty much the same size that I was this time last year.

Total confidence boost, and motivation to keep pushing myself :)

Day One of "get in shape before your husband comes home" has begun.

Holy crap. Almost 8 months of inactivity is no fun to work through. My arms and shoulders are going to hate me tomorrow and my heart wants to know why in heavens name I just made it oxygenate me for 2 miles of cardio. Sorry, heart. It's for your own good.

But, I feel good, and I WILL be sticking with this.

I can walk! Mostly! I'll be hitting the gym tomorrow just for a little bit to get back into the swing of things.

I love that I am actually looking forward to work outs these days, I'm so enjoying lifting. I think part of it is seeing visible results relatively quickly, but I also just seem to like this kind of exercise. YAY! Makes it so much easier to stick with it.
