Come on, it's tradition. This is getting seriously stupid.

People need to grow the hell up if "Merry Christmas" offends them.

I'd hate to be on this Earth at a time where if I told someone "Merry Christmas" they'd get offended. Absolutely ticks me off.

Yeah, I mean, it is our holiday. We should be able to call it what we want! This religion thing is going overboard. We've like, called this holiday "Christmas" for hundreds of years! Why change it now?

Our mayor is now calling out tree "The Grand Tree", and instead of a star at the top it's a deer.

Pfft. I only wish my school had banned the saying of 'Merry Christmas'.

I'd be screaming it to everyone I passed by.

omg...so a freaking STAR is offensive??? WTF! there are stars in the sky...my gosh...

people have SERIOUS problems...

do people really get offended if someone says 'merry christmas' to them??? I grew up in a city that didnt allow jews in until the 1980s (NO JOKE!)...so my family and i, being jews, are a HUGE minority...so therefore, people said "Merry Christmas" to me a million time...and with a big, sincere smile, i said "Thanks!! Merry Christmas to you tooo!!"

Richie, i think it is more offensive that the "happy chanukah" sign is there ONLY cause they dont allow "merry christmas".

lol, on top of that...chanukah isnt even a major holiday...at all...tons of jews dont celebrate it...not to mention that the 'story' of chanukah is totally made up (sorry to ruin it...)

if this country is striving for PC...then at least acknowlege yom kippur...the holiest of the jewish holidays...

it is actually quite insulting that chanukah is given so much attention, and most people probably dont even know what it represents, and how unimportant it is in the jewish faith. It would be similar to an american going to another country, and that country, in attempts to be more PC, made a huge deal of umm... 'secretary's day', and didnt acknowledge independence day at all....(sorry if that example sucks, lol)

hope that made sense...

Hey Boxer Mom - it's not the politicians it's *&%#& ACLU! Everyone, and by that I mean, city governments, schools, etc. are scared silly of that outfit. Just the threat of a law suit sends them running and biting their fingernails to the quick.

Isn't it stupid when America is made up of all sorts or people and religions...would be interesting if a Hindu would ever take the oath of office ... hand on the Bible ??

So i guess that means no Christmas parties? Bummer. Which was just an excuse not to do anymore work before the 'holiday' or 'winter' break and to snack on some food.

Seriously, Boxer*Mom. It's a real bummer. :p

I mean, they think its offending to people with other religions. But I mean, what about the Christians? Isn't changing the name of the whole holiday offending to them?

VERY SAD NEWS. There will be no Live Nativity Scene
in Washington, DC this year! The Supreme Court has
ruled that there cannot be a Nativity Scene in
Washington, DC this Christmas season.

This isn't for any religious reason, they simply have
not been able to find three wise men and a virgin in
the Nation's capital. There was no problem, however,
finding enough asses to fill the stable.

Rofl. I liked that.

and how unimportant it is in the jewish faith
I didn't know that. I figured it was like Christmas (symbolically) and the 7 candles or whatever (I don't know how many are on that chandelabra) represented...something. Like the three wisemen or something.

LOL, man...you are so off...

the 'legend' of chanukah is something like this (real short version) greeks didnt like the jewish way of life so they defiled the temple, stole most of the oil that kept the menorah burning (which was VERY important to them jews) ....so, once the jews fought back, they wanted to make sure the light kept burning, but only found enough oil to light a candle for one day, it lasted 8, enough time for them to get more oil.....yay :)

now, there are all sorts of theories on what 'actually' happened....this is what i got taught (and since i have a crappy memory, and im supposed to be studying, im about to give a REAL rough version)

Jews were very oppressed (duh, lol)...group called the maccabbees rose up and fought with forks and shovels and sticks, defeated an army (they were basically gureilla fighting, or whatev its called)...

so they overthrew the greeks (well, not like, took over, but i think they just go their way or something)

Now, in order to celebrate this, since jews were like, CONSTANTLY under oppression, and didnt have their own country, they couldnt be all like "YAY, we are so cool, we are rebellious and overthrow governments"...cause then whosever power they were under would be like "dude, watch those jews, you never know when they are gonna get all sneaky and attack us.."

so they kinda hid the fact that they did that, and just told the legend above in temple, so no one would hear the 'real' story and get all suspicious...

chanukah isnt in the torah...it was never supposed to be about giving gifts...and that only occurs in places like the US where christmas made lil jewish kiddies jealous, cause they wanted gifts too!!

and do not quote me on any of that...i could be really wrong, lol...the concept is right, but yea...
