And I am sorry that you are jealous of me knowing people who were successes in showing dogs. The Kerries were owned and bred by George and Angie Mederos who had Betancourt kennels. Their Ch. Betancourt's Barnaby and Betancourt's Molly were top champion producers in the history of the breed back in 1985, I believe.

In another 25 years or so you might know some "biggies" too. I am sorry if I cannot tell my life history without it sounding to you like I am bragging. I state facts, you see bragging. Oh, let me add to my brags---the owner of the Top winning dog of my breed in this country for the last 5 years, just HAD to breed to one of my bitches! I was against it, but out of that breeding came the top dog of that breed in Canada! So I guess I am in a heck of a lot better position to brag if I want to then others. Sorry 'bout that!
Okay, I'm not trying to be mean, but why, do you feel the need to brag? This thread isn't about your life story, and who you know, and how you know them and so on. If you're rubbing almost everyone the wrong way, mabye it's not a jealousy issue, but the way you're communicating. If you have lead such a rich life, then you surely have lots of knowledge and experience that others could benefit from. If you want to help people, perhaps you should consider how you're coming across, instead of writing off any critisism as jealousy, inexperience and hatred on the part of everyone else. Or maybe you're just here to tell us how great you are, which is your right of course.

These are just my two cents as someone who's read some threads that you recently participated in. And no, before anyone asks, I'm not following you or anything. You're just one of the people who stands out as an active participant. I started off thinking that you were a source of valuable information, that a lot of us (including me) could learn from, but sometimes it seems like you're trying to convince yourself of this too. It really just comes off badly in my opinion.

I coulnt give a rats ass who you know.

It takes a AMAZING dog to win a championship in a weekend. In the dobe world that would NEVER happen..

A dual ch isnt all that great, or important. Im doing it because I want to travel and I would have a blast.

Im not one of those stuck up, I wont talk to anyone because I have a show dog, type person. Not saying you are. But most show dog people are like that.

I agree with keller. Maybe your not trying to come off as a bitch, but you are. Your posts sound like your a "know it all" and it's all about who you know.

No they are not. At least not at the dog shows I go to.

Dizzy, I feel a need to rebut when people say that dog shows are full of stuck up nasty people who have no care for anything but winning.

SO many people in the GP have this general idea about dog shows and dog show people.

That they are stuck up snobs who are rude, condescending, and who will do any sort of cheating to win.

This has NOT been my experience over the last 17 or so years.

Dog shows are a wonderful sporting event that many families take part in. I have met some of the nicest people, and made numerous lifelong friends in people that I met at dog shows.

Like any other venue, yep, you will find nasty underhanded snobby people who will do anything to win.

Fortunately, in my experience, they are the FEW rather than the many.

Red - good point. I don't go to a lot of dog shows but the ones I've been to most of the people I've talked to while very tired were happy to talk to me about their dogs and answer questions (even the most inane)... and I am not even a fellow handler/breeder... I'm just an inquisitive, but polite, visitor into their world.

I guess I'm just a bit taken a back that this arguing about breeds/showing/breeding/standards has been going on for days across several threads with the same players. In my mind and my opinion - enough is enough.

People are going to think what they want to think unless they have an open mind and are receptive to changing their opinions. Some of the open mindedness comes from naivete and some from experience. I keep an open mind from experience... I have been served better in this world by keeping a mind that is open than by one that is closed.

All fo this has been educational to be sure... in both how other people are on this board as well as general dog knowledge ... but... I don't see these arguements going anywhere.

Hopefully that explains my point of view better...

I do understand, Mojozen.

My concern is that if the other POV is not put up, someone might come here and read this thread and REALLY think that Dog shows are nothing but a place for snobby people to parade around their unhealthy ill tempered show dogs while they find whatever way the can to cheat to win.

I just love dog shows, I always have a great time win or lose. If anyone reading this has never been to a dog show, look one up in your area. You can find all dog shows put on by the AKC in the US at http://www.infodog.com

Dog show info is located in the dog show calendar.

When one is coming to your area, go check it out! Even if you are not in the market for a dog, if you've never been to one, it's a stunning experience. So many diffferent breeds, you can walk through the grooming areas and watch different breeds being prepared to go in the ring. Many shows also include performance events such as Obedience, or Agility. Also you can find health clinics for a reasonable rate at many dog shows.

And the number one reason to go to a dog show is to SHOP!!! Almost all of them have a fairly wide selection of vendors selling all things dog related from collars to art.

So you cared so little that you had to log on and let us know how you felt?:D

Just joking around. Hopefully no one is stewing over this, and is just going on with their lives and enjoying their puppies.

Red, Mojo, Fila, Dizzy, Jenn . . . thanks so much for your very even tempered input.

Jenn, I hope you aren't discouraged from trying your hand at showing NoName. Red has surely given you some very excellent advice, and there can't be many out there who would be more gracious and generous with their expertise.

Gotta say, the whole thing makes me doubly glad to own a rare breed! These AKC/CKC showing p!ssing contests are just incredibly silly, aren't they?

And, just for general information, the camel-gait of the Fila is one of the things that makes the breed far faster and more agile than other breeds of their size and power. When you see an adult Fila running, it is more like watching a cougar or lion than any sort of dog.

Even "I" know that a cougar or lion is not an accepted AKC breed, so if your dog runs like that it must be FAR below the breed standard.

Oh God how I love dog shows :D Just wanted to heartily concur with Red here. The vast majority of people in the dog show world are wonderful people. For anyone who has a dog or is thinking about getting a dog, attending a show and meeting people involved with your breed is a great experience that will reap you rewards.

Agility, Flyball, Conformation.... I find them all a blast to watch.... and once you've seen a handler let their dog nibble on bait and then stick that bait right back into their own mouth ;) you really come to know how much they love dogs too!

for the record, many dobes can and do travel to canada and finish in one weekend there, its not hundred and hundreds, but there are dobes that have done it, and i wouldnt consider most of them amazing.

ive also seen some canadian CH (moreso than american CH) that have been pretty **** poor in quality.
